A prequel series that slowly but steadily stops making any sense. At first there are minor continuity errors, but only to the degree that could be put down to imprecise language or misleading statements in the original, then gets worse and worse until by the final episode the main character of the original series has never been born, the antagonist is already dead, and the worldstate is totally different from how it was at the start of the original

forget that 1840- we accidentally killed off Edith and by extension- every Collins family member post 1840.

Edith and Gabriel already had children, they were sent off to boarding school in 1840. Also, you guys are forgetting the entire origin of the Collins family, the one where Jeremiah built Collinwood, Josette was his French bride that spoke no English, and Barnabas was her English tutor. Also that she died in 1830. Compare that to 1795.

How else could I afford literally the best of everything ever. Did you think I would be one to shop at Ikea, you peasant. I import everything from a small local shop in a small village in a small region in insert-random-European-country . Yeah, it costs like 500 000 dollars but who cares. Also I like clothing, especially outdated and ridiculously overpriced items that make me look like a hooker from the 80s. Purple-velvet cape with glitter? Perfect. Completely in touch with 21st century fashion if you ask me. Wow humans are so fascinating, except the evil-doers, those people that commit crimes like shoplifting or doing THe DRUGS aren’t even worth being mentioned as human beings with lives of their own and reasons to act as they do. Isn’t it convenient how I just got rid of the n°1 ethical dilemma of vampiric life by choosing to feed on that particular type of people who just happen to walk past me everywhere I go ? I’m a fucking genius.

Normally David Selby is charm personified. Why they chose to make him this shouty, petulant asshole I HAVE NO IDEA. I think this is why I had to give up on 1840 for a while, I watched it too close to 1970PT and the parallels in character were off-putting.

In stealing the plot of Rebecca, they put the wrong DS characters in the wrong parts. OK, David Selby is your teen idol and he’s the one bringing in all the girls and the sponsors who want the girls’ money, but the role of the older, cold, emotionally withdrawn husband/Max de Winter really should have gone to someone else. It’s too much of a stretch for Selby; Louis Edmonds would have been much better. If Jim Storm had been around at that time, even he would have been better. I’m not really sure *where* a Quentin fits into that story.
