BRAVE PRINCESS
@theheroaroundhere
when lunafreya wakes from her slumber, her first reaction is to believe itâs some sort of dream, perhaps a memory. but the architecture here is nothing like the ones in niflheimâitâs more⊠simplistic. it almost takes her back at the startling differences in her surrounding, but with a hand pressed to her heart, she chooses to soothe her worries instead. there is little use in allowing fear to dictate her movements. so slowly, but surely, she stands to wander forward through the town. she blinks as she strides forward, eyes holding both surprise but subtle amazement. however, nothing is as startling as the familiar face just steps away; her heart quickens as her feet do, taking her to the man whom she knows as dead.
âânyx? is that truly you?â her voice comes out quietly as she stands before him, a hand clutched to her chest as she attempts to settle her breathing. one moment passes, then several, before a soft sigh escapes her lips. resignation appears upon her smile, or perhaps acceptance, as her gaze moves to meet his. â⊠i see. this must be the afterlife, then. i admit itâs ⊠not what i had expected.â
He almost couldnât believe it when he saw her. Over the past few weeks, Nyx had adjusted to life in Magnolia. This was normal now. Eos was just a memory. As hard as that had initially been to accept, heâd finally realized that heâd walked his path in that world. Heâd done what he needed to do. Heâd lived his life, died, and somehow gotten another chance to live another life in a new world- a world without any of his people or anything he knew. It was a good thing that he was so adaptable and proactive. Heâd actually adjusted rather well. He was putting a life together for himself. It was actually working. He was making this work.
When he saw that face though, all of that crumbled away, and he was once again Nyx Ulric, hero of the Kingsglaive. His final mission had been to protect this woman, and that instinct kicked in so quickly that it could have given someone whiplash. He practically ran to the princess, eager to see if she was alright...to see if she was even real. It was so strange to stand before her. Heâd accepted that heâd never see her again, that his death had meant that heâd never see anyone who had been important to him ever again, and even though their time together had been short, sheâd been important. Sheâd been the entire world for a time. Even now, he felt that same duty to her. The voice of his former, traitorous captain echoed in his head. Protect the princess. Nyx shook his head, ready to reassure her and help her in any way that he could. âNo. No, Your Highness, it- this isnât the afterlife. Youâre not- do you know how you got here? Do you remember what happened?â

   shelly was free. at last.
and it felt brilliant. there was no leo watching over her shoulder, no leo to HURT her, or berate her. there was no double r diner either - sheâd loved that place, but hated it as well. it was always the same. twin peaks was tiny, a place where everyone knew EVERYONE - literally.
magnolia felt like it could be the same way, that you could learn to know everyone who lived there. but there was a bit more oomph to the place, a bit more excitement. and no leo. again, it was important to emphasise that point. she was still a waitress though⊠had tâpay the bills somehow, and as a high school drop-out there wasnât much else she could do.  she was used to it.Â
âand what can i get you today?â she asked, a bright smile on her features. they hadnât said anything in a bit, the person before her looking a little pre-occupiedâŠ. something was up. she didnât care about that. more interested in getting her job done. âwe have a special on today. cherry pie.â a recipe sheâd taken from home, that she had been allowed to bake up. ââŠdo you want me to come back later?â
It had been a long night for the hero. Heâd forgotten how much work getting behind a bar was. Granted, it wasnât really close to what heâd been doing on a daily basis as a member of the Kingsglaive, but heâd gotten used to that. It had been easy for him. Heâd had to adjust to a different kind of work again, and of course, he was powering through it. Nyx was a master of taking things in stride and handling whatever was thrown at him.
When heâd woken up that morning though, dragging himself out of bed had been a nightmare. Heâd taken a shameful amount of time to actually get himself cleaned up and presentable. It was a good thing that he wasnât working again until later that evening...not that he wouldnât have pulled it together had he needed to go in earlier. He would have made it work. He always made time for his duties and the things heâd committed himself to. Dedication was practically a Nyx Ulric trademark.
But for now, he could just sit at the counter of the diner and enjoy what seemed suspiciously like relaxation. Looking up at the waitress who approached, he gave her a small but still friendly smile. âCherry pie sounds great.â He said with a nod, not ever really being one for sweets but not really wanting to wade through exhaustion to take the time to make much in the way of a decision at the moment. âAnd coffee would be great, please. Just...lots of coffee,â

ââ Mmmmhm, not exactly answering my question but okay. How about we try again? What exactly are you trying to do?â Eliot cocked his head, smoking his cigarette and glancing at the other through his lashes.
It bothered him that it was so easy for this guy. It used to be easy for him, too. He hadnât even had to think about using magic when heâd been back home. Heâd been a natural; heâd been powerful. Nyx let out a small sigh and simply said âThatâ, gesturing towards the otherâs hand. Not smoke. He didnât really care about smoking. It was the fire that he was referring to.

Kate starts as she sees a familiar face, one she never thought sheâd see in Magnolia. He hasnât noticed her, and thereâs something different about him that she canât quite put her finger on, but she would know Sethâs face anywhere. ââ-Seth?â She asks, voice uncertain and (though she would probably never admit it) somewhat hopeful as she reaches out and taps the man on the shoulder. âWhat are you doing here?â
The glaive nearly jumped out of his skin when someone tapped him on the shoulder. His head turned towards the voice that he heard, pale eyes softening as he saw a young girl standing there. She seemed a little unsure, and he didnât want to spook her. âIâm sorry?â He asked calmly, not having really registered any actual words that sheâd said. The only thing that had come to him had been the sound of it. Heâd been far too focused on his magic...or lack thereof.

â is it though? that would explain why nobody likes me. â the cheshire said sarcastically with an even more sarcastic look upon her features. a shrugged came from the girl before she rolled her eyes. â oh please, like i care. â
Well, he wasnât even going to touch that one. Her rather careless responses took him by surprise though. âOkay then...â Nyx drawled out, not really sure how to handle her sarcasm without being somewhat rude in return, which he really didnât want to be. The hero cleared his throat and looked down at her with gentle eyes. âYou need something, kid?â

Eliot cocked his head, knowing damn well what the guy was trying to do. Magic. It crackled through the air, through his skin, through his fingers when he cast. And he knew the sight of someone grasping at the faintest glimmers of it like the back of his hand. ââ If you donât mind me asking, what exactly are you trying to achieve here? Because if itâs a whole lot of nothing, really, youâre doing great,â he drawled, lighting his cigarette with a flick of his fingers.
Heâd been so desperately hoping for something. Heâd been hoping that there would be some kind of magic in this world that he could tap into. If he was a conductor for it, then it would make sense that he could. So far though, over weeks of trying, he hadnât been successful. Nyx...wasnât really used to failing when it came to magic. It had come so naturally to him before. When he looked up at the other who spoke to him and saw the way that he lit the cigarette so easily with his own fingers though, he felt so...powerless. Inferior. âThatâs really not helping.â He quipped, holding back the full extent of the irritation that he was feeling. As he always did.
Because Betsy is terrible about doing her drafts and just wants to force Nyx to talk about things.

â you okay? â
âYeah, Iâm fine.â The answer was instant. Nyx didnât even have to think about it. No matter how he was feeling or what happened, he was fine. He would always tell someone that he was fine. Flashing a small smile at the girl, he even looked fine. Despite the fact that he was somewhat pissed off.
chaotickittyx
â someoneâs testy. â
âYou know, thatâs a really unnecessary way to approach someone.â He quipped, his tone bordering on something that sounded suspiciously like anger. Nyx quickly gathered himself though, and his expression softened when he looked up and saw that she was just a kid. A small sigh fell from his lips. The hero shook his head and ran a hand through the layers of dark hair brushing his shoulders. He felt terrible for nearly snapping at her. âShit, Iâm sorry.â
