So they’re using Carl Jung’s theory in the comeback trailer.
Let’s break that down.
He said that the relationship between the conscious and the unconscious mind derived from the soul. Unlike Freud, this was not psycho sexual in origin. It is from the soul that the complementary drives of differentiation and integration come from. This allowed you to heal, grow, and develop. When this process was interrupted it led to mental illness.
In our last comeback we were told to love ourselves. In this comeback I think BTS is going to lead us through a healing process that comes from the soul; letting us know it’s okay to not be well mentally all of the time, but to search within ourselves to find what we love so that we can heal, slowly, but in our own ways.
In Persona he says, “‘Who am I?’ the question I had my whole life.” In the Skool Luv Affair intro that the back track comes from he says in his verse, “This is just an intro shouting bout my whole mind and body.” In 'What Am I to You’ he says, “So please, don’t look at me as if you’re looking at a stranger when I was nothing to you, I keep thinking about those times.” Now, obviously this song is about a girl, but she could just be representative. Now in Persona he says, “I’m still not so sure if I’m a dog or a pig or what else, but then other people come and put the pearl necklace on me.” So we can only assume that people have seen him as just another idol or artist (nod to Idol) and see him as nothing or like anyone else, but then these people who saw him as nothing now come along and treat him as new commodity to show off because he’s gotten bigger as an artist. Then he says “ptui” which is the noise made when spitting on the floor at someone with disgust. I’ll let you decide what he’s saying there😅
“But I’m not embarrassed anymore this is the map of my soul.”
It’s simple. He has laid out all of his issues with fame, mental health, the struggles it takes to be a part of BTS; but he also wants to show that he’s here as a representative for those going through everyday struggles.
We see the many versions of him that are stripped of their suits to reveal those quotes from Carl Jung.
And here has broken them down.
“Persona, Who the hell am I, I just wanna go, I just wanna fly.”
