experiencing adolescence in the 2010s has fucked my perspective of the word “epic” totally beyond repair. i will forever view it in the same league as words like “awesomesauce” and “legitness” im sorry. theres just no going back
any time i read the word "epic" this fucking thing flashes in my mind
I found this geeked ass lookin cat at Wildest Dreams consignment in Bakersfield CA.
That's Bill the cat from the Bloom County comic. That's just how he is.
oh no they’re going to start calling democrats the same thing they’ve been calling democrats for 20 years now
"Here’s a trick I learned during the Obama presidency for handling certain types of political labels. Take, as an example, the Tea Party claim that Obama is a Communist. Don’t take the word of the person making the claim (Tea Partiers). Don’t rely on the rebuttal of the target (Obama), because that will just be dismissed. Go to the group itself (Communists) and ask them. Ask an actual Communist if Obama is a comrade and see how they answer. Watch as they laugh at you, then explain in great detail how they wish there was a Communist in the White House, but here’s a long and exhaustive list of why that just isn’t so. Now apply this logic to the claim that Hillary is pretty much the same as a Republican. Ask an actual Republican if they think Hillary Clinton is one of them. Watch them laugh, and then explain in the same exhausting detail why that just isn’t so. Some of them might concede that she’s better than Trump, but that’s not the same thing. Finally, go ask a White Supremacist if Trump is one of them. As they excitedly explain how Trump is the guy they’ve been waiting for all these years, and how he’s really empowered their movement, use this to guide how you will be voting in November."

you guys are so right, I should have added the best part
This meme ages like a fine wine every year that passes.
In 1988, the Folio Junior collection for kids published "The Lord of the Rings" divided into six parts. Each of the traditional three volume was itself split into two.
And they are really funny. Christian Broutin had an interesting... perception of Middle-Earth.
I don't have high quality pictures of the first one (The Fellowship of the Ring, part 1) but you can see that it shows Gandalf escaping Isengard thanks to the eagle... With at the bottom what can be as much Gollum as the Watcher in the Water or some goblin. It is... hard to tell. "The Fellowship of the Ring part 2" meanwhile made the interesting choice to focus on the often-forgotten crebain.
Two Towers is divided between, on one side what I think is a depiction of Isengard but with the guy from the poster of Bakshi's Wizards that strolled in (plus random creepy eyes underneath) ; and on the other the cutest Shelob you'll ever see.
Finally you have The Return of the King, and while part 2 is a fairly traditional fall of Barad-dûr scene, the part 1 is the best of them all... The Witch-King riding a giant fearthless chicken.
There is something about pre-movie visual interpretations of the LOTR trilogy that is truly special.
While I can still go back and re-read the books and have my imagined visuals be about the same as when I first read them, I would kill to have had even an ounce of the artistic ability I have now so that I could have had some more solid visual representations of what I imagined when I first read the trilogy.
Whether or not this artist was well-acquainted with the story I do not know (I’m assuming he probably was) but these pieces (while definitely a bit out of place in the visual canon that’s been established over many years) have that same quality to them that my ideas and drawings that I had/made when I first read the books and for that I find these pieces very charming.
And, honestly, the weirdest LOTR covers/visual interpretations are these covers from the eighties…
Not even that they’re super out there or that the art is particularly bad, they just have a certain uncanny quality to em, LOL.
Comments about the French cover of Book 5 with the Witch King riding a menacing plucked goose:
I’ve hear about how having cats makes you immune to hauntings, ghosts, spooky midnight noises etc but. for years I’ve been dealing with a panic response to unexpected nighttime noises, major enough that the adrenaline can keep me from falling back asleep for hours.
A few weeks of living with a cat and my brain’s been reprogrammed. last night at 4am the furry little shitmuppet broke a vase & I only woke up long enough to call her a rat bastard & roll over back to sleep
Oh shit. This totally made me realize that it must have been my cat that killed my fear of the dark. I used to be intensely scared of walking into dark spaces. Hated any area where I had to turn a light off before I could turn another one on.
Enter my mostly black demon who likes to jump out of dark spaces at me.
Now I can just walk through dark rooms with no anxiety. I’m now used to the darkness taking physical form and jumping at me. At this point if a monster did jump out of the darkness I’d instinctively reach for the cat treats to offer it.
holy crap what other fears do cats make you immune to?
I’m no longer scared to dangle my foot over the bed bc of demons with sharp claws & glowing eyes, i’m scared to dangle my foot over the bed bc of one specific small furry demon with sharp claws & glowing eyes
#fuck off beelzebub my cat has dibs
My cats are legit part of my grounding strategy for when I have sleep hallucinations. As part of my sleep paralysis, I “see” corpses in the bed next to me on a frequent basis, or shadow men lurking in the doorway; if there is a cat blissfully, softly snoring at the foot of the bed, I know I am safe, despite what my brain is trying to conjure.
the sound of my door opening slowly, but theres no one there. my cat. somethings clawing at the walls, glass or window screens, cats. somethings fucking licking my toe in the middle of the night, my fucking cat again. nothing can hurt me its all cat
Unearthly noise? Cat.
Movement out of the corner of your eye? Cat.
Objects moved? Cat.
Inexplicable smells? Cat.
Corpses (small)? Cat.
Ectoplasm right in middle of the room, which you won’t notice till you step in it? Cat.
Do cats make the ghosts go away? Nah. They just make you stop being scared.
Used to be afraid of thunderstorms.
Until one summer, when a very brand new kitten, when faced with one for the first time ever, chose to sit in the window and hiss and growl at it until the storm broke.
I spent so much time laughing at him that I forgot I was afraid of storms. Like, this small thing, so tiny a small rat could top him, encountered a new thing and chose violence. And he looked so damn smug about it when the storm broke, too. He was like “yeah, I got rid of it. Go me!”
genuinely indistinguishable, you could have had him read this off in waltz instead of the actual script
hey hey my piece of shit sperm donor lost custody of my half sister yesterday
granted she's 17 so it's a BIT FUCKING LATE but we take those
rip bozo
as expected, he has responded to this by putting up a 4300 word rant in which he blamed literally everyone but himself and slandered literally everyone he can think of
and of course no acknowledgement of the existence of the son he also lost custody of or how that might reframe this whole thing LMAO
I mean tbf he could have ctrl+r'd her name out for mine with the whole thing and it'd have been something he could have said about me anyway blamed her for why he didn't pan out as a professional poker player for example, it was my fault he didn't make it as a volleyball coach dude is just remarkably, consistently pathetic lmao
