I have ADHD. Let me explain why that's probably not as insignificant as you think it is.

It’s just my brain is neuroatypical.

I’m forgetful, and worse I get distracted really easily. Like earlier tonight I was going to watch House of Cards but then I thought. “I should make some icons for those winners from my icon giveaway last week.” So I put on music and then The Hustle came on. And I thought “I wonder how you actually do the Hustle?” And then I watched about five videos on youtube. (Good news. I think I learned how to do the Hustle.) Before I remembered “Oh hey! You were making icons.” But then a head canon popped into my head, so I had to post that.  Then I remembered icons. But then over on my personal, people were posting selfies. And I thought I should do that. So i got up and went to brush my hair. But then I remembered I was going to trim my bangs. And so I trimmed my bangs and my hair. Came back to the room. Took a few mustache comb pictures. Decided not to post them. Then remembered - ICONS! And so I finally was able to do a few more of those. I once saw ADHD described as having no filter to keep out distractions. And that was the best post I ever saw on it.  

And sometimes I can hyper focus on distractions and that gets me lost for hours.  (I mean it’s cool too. On those times I focus on things that aren’t “how do you do the hustle.” Like I have hyper focused on ASOIAF and as such I know a lot  about it. I mean I’ve fallen into reading butterfly’s meta / predictions for hours and hours on end.) 

And because I have adhd that means that growing up I wasn’t paying as close attention to social interactions as other kids. (Because mimicking social interactions is how you learn to socialize.) Plus there’s poor impulse control. (I interrupt a lot. It frustrated my ex so much. But I was never doing it to be rude!) So you wind up with bad social interactions, which can cause anxiety (and I know plenty of people without ADHD also deal with that, so you guys now what a barrel of laughs that is.) 

So what does that mean for role playing?

It means that sometimes I’ll work on a single post for hours even if it’s only a paragraph because I keep getting distracted. If the activity feed fails, I’m lost. (Though hopefully that new thread tracker will help.)

It means I often don’t know how to just approach you for casual conversation on messengers, or forgot that I haven’t replied.  I often find conversations are easiest when they’re about shows / books so I might almost exclusively talk to you about those. It doesn’t mean I don’t care about your life, or how you’re doing. It just means that I’m not sure how to talk to you about your life. 

It doesn’t mean that I don’t like you, or that I don’t want to talk to you. My brain is simply a little atypical that’s all. Don’t ever be afraid to gently  remind me once or twice. Though try not to remind me too much, because sometimes I get anxiety over not replying fast enough. (Or I feel like I’m being lazy. And sometimes I am and sometimes I just can’t do it.) 

Above all, just remember that none of this is because of how I feel about you. Chances are I really like you! I’m excited to talk to you, and play with you! But my brain is just a little wonky. Which is why I’m a floppy bunny. And not a regular old bunny.But good news. Floppy bunnies are better at cuddling. That’s a scientific fact. (◡‿◡✿)
