The MitsuNaru discord server is a space for 18+ fans of the Ace Attorney ship Miles Edgeworth/Phoenix Wright.
We currently have nearly 200 members, many of whom write and create art for the ship.
While MitsuNaru is primarily a server for that particular ship, we also have channels for other ships, other aspects of the series, as well as more general topics.
We host semi-regular sessions for members to watch things, play games and other activities together, or just hang out. And usually around certain holidays and MitsuNaru Day, we host events for members to write and create art for the ship. All optional, but a lot of fun! ❤️💙
It's MitsuNaru Day, so what better way to celebrate?

“Date!” Ryuki rushes over to where he spotted Date in the rubble, using all his strength to move one of the rocks that crowded Date in, giving him more room. Date’s hair is tousled and covered in dust from the initial explosion. Thankfully though, aside from his leg being pinned by the rubble, he seems unharmed.
“Ryuki?” Date reaches a hand out, brushing some of the dust off of Ryuki’s face, Aibi clutched in his other hand. “Thanks for stopping by…but I can’t move.” Ryuki’s heart is pounding in his ears, he scans over the rubble pinning Date’s leg down.
“Give me a second! I’ll get it off you!” Ryuki goes to lean over Date, but gets tugs down to be eye level with him before he can even attempt to move the rubble off his leg.
“That’s not gonna work. This is way too big for your noodle arms.” Despite the situation, Date’s tone is fond, teasing almost. He scans his sole eye over Ryuki, seemingly checking him over for injuries. “Leave me here. Get going.” Ryuki’s heart sinks at Date’s words. He can already feel his eyes welling up with tears. He can’t leave Date here, he can’t do that.
“Come on, what are you talking about?!” Ryuki holds back his tears as much as possible, choking back his emotions. Time and place, he has to save Date.
“Look at the ceiling, it’s coming down soon. Even if you managed to get this off of me, the chance of you carrying me out of here before this place comes down is almost impossible. If you stay here. We both die.” Ryuki takes a shaky breath, trying to get his emotions in check. “Take this with you.” Date pushes Aiba’s body into Ryuki’s chest. Ryuki cradles Aiba in both his hands, looking over her body.
“I tried talking to her…but she isn’t responding.” Tama’s voice helps to keep Ryuki focused on reality and the situation at hand.
“I think the explosion knocked her out. Her base system is on the cloud, but her body…that’s important. Take her with you.” Ryuki brushes his thumb over Aiba’s body, before tucking her into the inner pocket of his jacket, keeping her safe.
“Date-” Ryuki goes to speak, to convince Date to let him try and help him again. That he’s stronger than he looks. He won’t let another loved one die in front of his eyes again. Before he can form a full sentence, Date reaches up and drags Ryuki in by the back of his neck, pressing their lips together in a desperate, emotion filled kiss. Ryuki can’t help but break in that moment. He melts into the kiss, not caring as tears flow freely down his cheeks. He threads a hand into Date’s hair, holding him as close as humanly possible. Ryuki tries to pull Date closer when he pulls away, but Date pushes his shoulder harshly, creating distance between the pair.
“Ryuki…were you the one who ran yesterday?” A chill runs down Ryuki’s spine as Date mentions the events from the previous day at the factory. He shot at Mizuki, he ran hoping Date hadn’t seen him, he had to listen to what Tearer was saying, he had to protect Tama-
Ryuki loses his balance, causing him to go tumbling down the staircase. He scrambles to try and get to his feet.
“Kaname!” Rubble coming crashing down, a large piece landing on Date, no doubt crushing him. Ryuki simply stays where he stands, his breathing shaky and unstable, tears streaming down his face.
“Why..? How could this happen…? Date…Kaname I-I love him…and I betrayed him!” Ryuki's throat becomes raw as pure emotion is ripped from him, letting out screams of anguish and anger. At himself, at Tearer. No. No, he can't blame Tearer. This is all his fault.
Ryuki lets himself simply stare into space. Six years. Six years have passed and yet nothing has changed about his guilt. Even when he found out Date is alive, when he contacted him telling Ryuki to head to the Cathedral, Ryuki couldn't just forget his part in this. He caused all of this, Mizuki’s eye, Kizuna’s spine injury, six years of Date’s life gone because Ryuki chose to protect Tama. He can hear her voice speak up, finally deciding to zone into the conversation Tama’s been having with the others.
“This has been eating at Ryuki for the past six years. He regretted what he did and blamed himself. He betrayed Date and shot Mizuki Kuranushi with stun bullets.” Ryuki can feel the guilt sink deeper into his stomach at Tama’s words. No matter how you twist it, he betrayed Date, Mizuki, both of them, Boss, all of ABIS. He betrayed them all. “And what happened to Mizuki, Date, and Kizuna on top of that…”
Please, Tama. You don’t have to remind me.
“Yeah, Tearer detonated the bomb, but it was Ryuki who told Date about this place. If he never did, Kizuna and Mizuki wouldn’t have been hurt…”
I know, Tama. I know. I betrayed them all. I hurt them. I don’t deserve to be here while they suffer the consequences.
“That’s what’s been plaguing him. He started drinking, which made the whole thing worse…” He can feel his body yearn for the drink as Tama mentions it. He knows he shouldn’t. He knows by now he’s addicted, dependent. He can only imagine how disappointed Date is in him, about how many nights he spent slumped over in Brahman having drunk him unconscious, to find himself there the next morning with a throbbing head and a blanket draped over his shoulders which Gen brought purely for him.
“I don’t care if he feels bad about it, I still don’t forgive him!” Ryuki can’t blame her. He worsened her condition. He’s honestly surprised Boss didn’t fire him for affecting her daughter’s heart condition.
“Easy. He had his reasons.” Ryuki feels his heart clench at his voice. Six years. Ryuki spent six years mourning and grieving him, agonising over everything he did wrong up to the moment that rock fell on Date. He has to resent Ryuki. There’s no way he still considers Ryuki his lover, partner, anything of the sort. He caused Date to lose six years of his life mindlessly wandering. He zones out as he thinks back on his final moments with Date. How he took those moments for granted. How it should have been him.
“Ryuki betrayed ABIS. He did something you can’t come back from. I couldn’t let anyone find out.”
“You protected him.” Mizuki speaks up, her voice softer with understanding.
“It’s the same reason I didn’t upload the investigation data from six years ago. I made an oath…no matter what I'll…I’ll protect Ryuki.”
Tama, please. You don’t have to. You’ve already done so much for me. It’s about time I reap the consequences of my own actions.
“But Ryuki himself could have informed us sooner.” Ryuki’s almost shocked when he hears Aiba’s voice. He remembers saving her six years ago. He remembers how desperate was to protect her.
“You should know why he didn’t do that. Why he gave into Tearer’s demands” God, that voice. How he’s missed that voice. How he dreamt of it, how it scolded him for his actions, criticised every mistake he made leading up to where they are now yet he could never hate the words that left his lips. Not when they’re his words.
“He wanted to protect his loved ones…” But at what cost? The cost of your eye? Kizuna’s ability to walk and dreams of dancing? Six years of Kaname’s life? As if hearing his thoughts, Date speaks up.
“Wouldn’t you do the same?” He takes a brief pause before continuing. “Ryuki you made a mistake, but lying around here in all your misery isn’t going to fix anything. If you really regret what you did, solve this case. That’s the only way to atone.” He wants to atone, that’s all he wants, but how can he? Is solving the case anyway to make up for it all?
“Ryuki, I remember one night we went out drinking, you told me about your little brother. You always talk about him when you drink. You made him a promise right? You said, ‘I’ll become a hero of justice. If I’ve fallen, I just need to get back up.’ You used to say it all the time.” But is there a way to climb up from so low down? He looks down at his brother’s watch that he’s holding. Almost the exact time of his death is permanently etched into it. It’s hard to wrap his head around the idea that it happened twelve years ago. They’d have both been turning thirty this October.
“It doesn’t matter how many times you fall. As long as you have a body to do it, you can climb back up again. Come here, Ryuki. Climb above the debris. It doesn’t matter if you’re pitiful, it doesn’t matter if you show vulnerability. You struggle, you crawl and you make it back to the top! That’s what we do. That’s what makes us human!” Ryuki stands and faces them. Date, the Mizukis, all people he’s affecting in some ways, but he’s being given a chance to make amends, to fix all the chips and cracks. When his eyes meet Date’s sole one, the tears he’s been trying so hard to hold back this whole time come flooding out, the dam finally bursts.
“Kaname, everyone, I…” Ryuki tries to string a sentence together, but his words get twisted in his head as tears continue to flow.
“Ryuki, now’s not the time to cry. Come climb up here.” Ryuki blinks up at Bibi, surprised by her acceptance.
“You mean…” Before Ryuki can continue his thought, Bibi interjects.
“Don’t get me wrong. I’ll only forgive you after we solve this case…” Ryuki’s tears only seem to pick up from there. He takes a few deep breaths, listening as Tama counts him through it.
“You always were a bit of a crybaby, Kuruto.” Ryuki perks up at the sound of his name being said. He watches, unable to move as Date cautiously makes his way down the steps and over the rumble to Ryuki. He notices the ever so slight limp in Date’s walk. His leg must’ve healed weirdly after being crushed. Date closes the distance between them, cupping Ryuki’s jaw gently in both hands and tugging him into a kiss. Ryuki takes a moment to register, before he wraps his arms around Date’s neck, pulling him closer, humming into the kiss as he clings to the leather of Date’s coat the best he can. Ryuki makes a noise that can only be described as pitiful when Date pulls away, a chuckle rumbling his Date’s chest. “It’s okay. I’m not going anywhere this time. We only have a couple hours left. Let’s solve this case, yeah? We’ll make up for lost time afterwards.” Ryuki nods, gently tucking his brother’s watch back into his pocket, bringing his other hand to wipe away the stray tears that remain.
Ryuki, Date, and Bibi charge in. Ryuki flips over two of the guys he can only see because of thermo mode, shooting both of them down while in the air, landing flawlessly. Ryuki scans the area, watching as Bibi effortlessly takes some of them out.
“Where? Where are they?!” Ryuki turns to face Date, watching as he spins around to try and find the enemies. Ryuki focuses.
Tama.
“My pleasure.”
Tama kicks into gear, focuses the thermo mode on Date’s surroundings, revealing the armed man behind him. Ryuki doesn’t hesitate to rush towards him, wrapping an arm around his chest and tackling him out the way. Ryuki gasps as pain sores through his chest as he and Date roll, Ryuki landing on his back with Date over him. Ryuki coughs, blood coming up his throat.
“Ryuki! Kuruto, hey!” Date wraps an arm under Ryuki, supporting his back, his other hand holding onto his upper arm. Ryuki groans, opening his eyes as much as he can.
“Kaname…please stop him.” Ryuki quickly finds breathing difficult, his vision becoming fussy. “My crimes will never be…” Ryuki speaks through gritted teeth, the pain pulsing and overwhelming.
“What the hell are you talking about, Kuruto?! You know I've already forgiven you, that’s what matters right?!” Ryuki can’t help but smile, feeling at ease in Date’s arms despite the intense pain shooting through his body.
Tama, thank you, for everything.
“Kaname…thank you.” With his last bit of strength, Ryuki lifts his arm, placing his hand on the back of Date’s neck and dragging him down into a kiss. Ryuki feels Date tense for a moment before sinking into it, the hand on his shoulder traces down his arm, settling on his back, over the bullet wound. Ryuki feels himself slip in and out of consciousness briefly, feeling his body going weaker and weaker.
“No, Kuruto, don’t die on me! A hero of justice can’t die! That’s always been the rule!” Ryuki can’t find the strength to rely through the haze of his half-conscious brain. His slowly weakening body sinking further and further into Date’s warmth. Hearing the pain in Date’s voice breaks Ryuki’s heart, he wants to tell Date he’s okay, to comfort him. Yet he doesn't have the strength.
“Kuruto, come on! Kur…” Ryuki’s consciousness fades, underable to hear any of Date’s words anymore. I love you, Kaname. Tama. Thank you. Both of you.
The first thing his brain registering is the rhythmic beep of a heart monitor. He takes a few moments to let his brain catch up with his body. He feels heavy, tired, a little disoriented. He can vaguely hear two people talking. He knows those voices.
“Kaname…Tama.” Ryuki grins weakly, blinking his eye open. He feels Date brush a hand through his hair, a hand resting lightly over his chest.
“Hey, hey. You’re okay. How are you feeling?” Ryuki chuckles a little at Date’s concern, leaning into his hand, enjoying the attention.
“Loopy, but I’m not in pain. Where’s Tama?” Ryuki feels a light weight up his leg, he blinks a little, watching as Tama walks up his leg. Ryuki smiles, reaching a hand out to gently brush his finger along Tama’s so-called face. He watches as she leans into the affection, bringing her stubby arms up to grab onto Ryuki’s hand.
“You scared us, you know?” There’s no bite in Tama’s words. Ryuki gives her a soft smile, scooping her up in his hand, placing her in the crook of his neck where she settles, the soft heat that her body admits comforting.
“You were unconscious for two days, and lost a lot of blood. But, they got the bullet out and you’ll make a full recovery.” Date speaks softly, continuing to brush his hand through Ryuki’s hair. Ryuki hums a little, both as acknowledgement and in contentment. Date chuckles, leaning in to press his forehead to Ryuki’s. “I'm grateful you protect me, but never fucking do that again.” Both of them chuckle softly, Ryuki wincing slightly at the pain it causes him.
“I'd do it all over again.” Date sighs, leaning back to look Ryuki in the eye, before closing the distance between them. Their lips lock in a sweet kiss, Ryuki melting into it.
“I love you.” Date mutters against his lips, brushing his nose lightly against Ryuki’s, before he leans in again to join their lips together in a soothing and warm kiss, one which almost lulls Ryuki into a sleep.
“I love you too.” Ryuki responses, cringing a little at his own voice, slightly gruff from disuse. Ryuki allows his eyes to slide shut once again. He's comfortable. He's safe. He’s no longer plagued by the cruel guilt of losing Date. He has him. He can feel Kaname’s touch in his hair, on his skin, through his clothes. He can rest easy now, knowing that Date is by his side.

Nah, fam. It's not about "taking" criticism. It's about the fact that unless a writer asks for it specifically, it's a dick thing to do on a website that is rooted in community.
If a writer wants critique they will ask trusted friends or professional associates (in the relevant field). When a writer shares a fic on AO3 it's not necessarily with the aim of improving their craft (there are better places for that). It's about sharing joy.
Positive comments enhance that feeling of joy and community. Negative comments do not.
Fic isn't a product to be evaluated. If it's not for you, then you can just walk away. 😁
I'm so tired of this discussion - why do all these people think they're entitled to offer critique on a fic author's work?
When you get a hand-made gift from someone, do you verbally rip it apart in front of them and point out every flaw or perceived flaw you can find? Congratulations, that person will never put the time, love and effort into making anything for you again, and they may question themselves so much they won't ever make anything for anyone else again, either. Well done, you've now deprived a whole community of art and an artist of their source of joy because you're an ungrateful walnut who can't say 'Thank you' and appreciate what you got for free.
Your opinion is not universal. Your tastes are not universal. Your preferred style is not universal. Authors can write whatever the fuck they want and unless you specifically commissioned a fic, you get no say in it.
Tl;dnr: If you don't like a fic or piece of art, hit the back button and keep your mouth shut. If you didn't like something, it likely wasn't meant for you and your 'criticism' is not wanted or helpful. Fandom is about community and lifting each other up, not about you shitting all over another person's work because you think your opinion matters.
Happy almost spooky season! We’re so excited to see the interest in this fan event. 🎃
We know some people are already hard at work planning out their submissions, so we are following up with the event schedule and revised submission instructions that include a tumblr tag.
Event Schedule
The event is organized by suggested theme. We’ll let you use your judgment on where your fic or art falls thematically—if you’re not sure, you can always submit it on the Halloween free day!
Day 1 (October 27): Horror Comedy
Day 2 (October 28): Psychological Horror
Day 3 (October 29): Slasher/Gory Horror
Day 4 (October 30): Paranormal/Supernatural Horror
Day 5 (Halloween!): Gothic Horror OR Free Day
How to Submit: You have two options to submit your work. You can post to our AO3 collection at https://archiveofourown.org/collections/AAHorrorFest24, or you can post to tumblr with the hashtag #aahorrorfest24 from October 27 - 31. We’ll be checking the collection and highlighting fan works throughout the week leading up to Halloween.
(Note: you must be 18 or older to submit to the collection.)
Late submissions? No problem! We’ll keep the collection open until November 15, but we encourage you to submit on or before the last week of October so we can promote your work during the event.
Finally, feel free to reach out if you’d like to join our 18+ Discord! We’ve got a friendly crew, a growing horror media rec list, and a space to bounce ideas off each other and share WIPs. (Also, a regular influx of pet photos.)
actually that ao3 post about calculating kudos-to-hits ratios to decide if a fic is worth reading has me so pissed off. someone put real time and energy into something they are SHARING WITH YOU FOR FREE on a site where you can quite literally filter and search by anything you want and you're STILL trying to find a foolproof method to find stuff that's "good enough to read"???
YOU ARE NOT THE TARGET AUDIENCE FOR EVERYTHING
you don't have to like or read everything in a given fandom or tag, but you also don't have to be a cunt about it and imply that it's not worth reading. this is the kind of shit that moves people to stop creating altogether, and to see people agreeing in the tags is so disheartening. absolutely unserious behavior.
