Traces of magic were known to spill, too, if he wasn’t paying attention, and his presence already had a tendency to reshape the landscape around him, sometimes forcing things out of the way.

Nico would have been ideal, given that he seemed to be a powerhouse of energy. The magic radiating from him was more refined than any Tristan had ever seen, and he’d seen quite a lot in his capacity as an investment analyst.

      THIS MAN CLEARLY HATES TO NOT BE IN CONTROL OF ANY SITUATION - and reminds him a little too much of his Uncle who strove to have constant control. It’s an ugly thought of course , but it’s present nonetheless. He leads him to the car, slipping inside and waiting for Nathan to join him. ONCE HE HAS , Laurent turns his head to look at him.               “You are , i’ll give you that but …how many of your people can you really trust?” LAURENT HAS BEEN DOING SOME RESEARCH OF HIS OWN. “You’re wary , and you are right to be. Men in our situation cannot afford to make mistakes, no.” He runs his fingers through his own curls , contemplating his next words. “But Spectre is not your enemy , it could be your ally , especially now MI6 is sniffing around this…business of yours.”

     NARROWING GAZE WAS THE ONLY inclination that Nate was surprised by this statement.   Laurent was the second Frenchmen to sweep through town and he didn’t think it was a coincidence.   Who was to say the first was a spy?   Who was to say Laurent was not the spy?   This was why King PAID for security.   The entire world was out to get him and he did not care for the pressure.

“Then what can Spectre offer me?   And if I accept this offer,   what do they want in return?”   Nothing came free.   There would ALWAYS be a price to be had but the last thing King wanted to do was hand over his company or give any shares over to foreign investors.   He took pride in his American company.   But he’d be a fool to ignore another power player.   One who could potentially help him in the long run.

THIS HAD BEEN JAMES’ IDEA - M wanted eyes on Nate King , and this was the best opening they’d had in years. Julien was a little nervous. Field work? it’s not really his thing. He’s a lot more comfortable behind a computer screen as BOND DAMN WELL KNOWS. Still - he’s often been told he could talk his way out of any situation , he was charming , likeable , for the most part. AND INTELLIGENT. The best option would have been Q of course , but he was needed at headquarters.

“Because i’m good at what i do and i want to work for the best.” HE’S BEEN PRACTISING THIS RESPONSE ALL MORNING. A bug here wasn’t going to work, Nate King would be well prepared for this , he couldn’t risk having James or Q in his ear right now.

     THE ANSWER WAS SMART.   Maybe scripted.   Nate was looking for someone with a little more assertiveness.   Confidence.   This line of work wasn’t an easy one,   especially when you had the PRESSURE of government and local agents trying to bring you down.   This man said he was the best.   It stroked Nate’s ego.   But did Julien truly know what they did here?

A devilish glint entered the man’s dark hues.   “Smart answer,”   he mused.   “But tell me,   Mr. Dubois,   what is it you THINK we do here that a computer hacker could lend his skill?”   A brow arched as King leaned back in his chair.   Hands rested on the top of his desk.   To the outside world,   his company IMPORTED and exported goods.   Everything was above board.   But sometimes his shipments held illegal goods.   Goods in which he would sell on the streets or to the highest bidder.   His grandfather founded this company,   Nate would make sure he kept it running.  Though himself and then his son,   Cassian.

But Cassian’s downfall where he turns into his father is when @theresastargirl betrays him, trying to bring down The Ivory and now I’m really emotional about that.

“Cassian, please.” Ophelia begged, feeling a weight sink into stomach. Out of all the people she wanted to hurt with this little operation, the last she wanted to ever cause pain to was Cassian. Not after seeing how the boy looked at her. How he cared for her. How he trusted her.

“I didn’t have anything to do with the arrest. And Gedion, we…” No, she wouldn’t go there. He had taken her under his watch through all of this. “I wasn’t pumping for information, I was getting to know him, we worked out together and… I was just trying to fit in! With everyone! You surely must know that better than anyone!” She protests, feeling hot tears roll down her face. “I’ve not done anything to Sabina, we’re just friends, Cassian, like you and I are!”

     IRE CONTORTED HIS FEATURES,   skin speckled scarlet.   If one didn’t know better,   they’d assume that Cassian was a rabid animal.   A normally compassionate and sweet boy had found the switch of betrayal,   the switch of heartache.   And it all came to a SINGULAR woman.   Cassian understood now why his parents got divorced.   He’d always assumed it’d been his mother’s way of protecting herself.   Now,   now Cassian WONDERED if it was his father’s way to keep his empire from falling.   You could trust no one.   Especially outsiders.

The man took a threatening step forward.   Hot air pushed past his lips and noes.   “You disgust me,”   he spat.   “Disgust and disappoint me.   I was ready to give you the world,   to open my arms wide and accept the mousy woman that you were.   But it’s the quiet ones,   no,   that you have to look out for.”   Cassian shook his head,   bitter laughter falling form his tongue.

“Get out of my sight.”   Voice was low,   harsh.   “I never want to see you again.   Nor do I want you anywhere NEAR the tower.   If I so much as see a flash of red anywhere near my family or those who work for us,   I will send Delia after you.   And as you know,   she doesn’t miss.”

Twenty five. She could manage that. Ophelia squeezed the blond’s hand in return, nodding at her instructions. She’d go to Delia first before Nate. Last thing she needed was to go straight to the top when things got messy.

She waited anxiously once she left, eyes moving between the time and the street where Florence had gone off to. She waited for another five, ten minutes, but it was clear she wasn’t coming back.

“Shit.” She muttered, taking out her phone and calling Delia first, hoping they could resolve this before Nate would find out. “Come on, help me out. You know I’m not capable of saving her ass on my own.”

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐃𝐑𝐎𝐏 𝐇𝐀𝐃 𝐁𝐄𝐄𝐍 𝐀 𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐏. Florence hardly managed to say her greeting before she was clobbered on the back of the head. She fell into a pile, dragged away by faceless henchmen. It wasn’t till several hours later that she came to, limbs tied to a chair. She groaned at the pounding headache.

Opening her eyes, the blond noted that she was in a warehouse of some sort. It was cold so it must be abandoned. As far as who took her, well, Florence couldn’t see. Fuck.

Delia looked at the screen of her phone, curious as to why Ophelia was calling her. But the moment she picked up the phone, her stomach dropped. “What do you mean?” She snapped. Fuck. If Florence had been kidnapped, someone really wanted to get under King’s skin. Better not tell him yet. “Tell me where you are. I’ll come to you.”

Ophelia nodded, at least grateful for the chance to try to prove herself with Delia. Maybe if she could do this, then she’d be able to gain a bit more favors with the Kings.

She looked at the photo, memorizing it quickly as she tried to figure out the best way to keep the man occupied. She could probably flirt enough to keep his distracted while Delia did the job, but she’d have to be convincing enough to hide her own anxieties, which would be the trouble.

The red head nodded at her orders, trying to steel herself as she was led off. “Got it.” She mutters to her before heading off on her own to the man. If he was anything like any other male she’d encountered, than he should be easy enough to occupy with a bit of attention.

With a quick glance back at her partner, she made sure she wasn’t just leading her into the fire before she put on the charm and began to play the part of some bimbo trying to charm the man for a drink.

𝐃𝐄𝐋𝐈𝐀 𝐕𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐒𝐇𝐄𝐃 𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌 𝐒𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓 but she was always watching Ophelia, making sure she stayed alive. There was apprehension in her gut, that the red head would get herself killed. But there was nothing the hit man could do about that now. They were already in the thick of it.

Vaulting up to scamper across the roofs, Delia assembled a gun she had hidden. This was going to be a production and hopefully she didn’t traumatize the red head too much. It wasn’t going to be pretty.

When Ophelia was in position, Delia lined up her shot and waited for a clear line. Ophelia was good at what she was doing.

Holding her breath, the hitman waited for the opportune moment before she exhaled, firing off her rifle. She nailed the Russian in the head and internally winced when the blood spattered on Ophelia. “Hope you have a strong stomach,” Delia whispered to herself before she disassembled her rifle, stowed it in a bag, and made her way to the street. It was chaos but finding Ophelia was simple.

“Move,” she ordered.

“In a matter of speaking.” She replies, frowning as he sits away from her. She needed him on her side, on both sides, in order for this to work.

Ophelia sits up, looking over at him. “Looking for? Nothing. Really hope you don’t fuck up again, hence why your drugs are gone for the moment.” They both needed to be level headed right now, despite both of their urges. Though maybe if they acted on them, they could work better together. That, or he’d sell her out to the highest bidder.

“Look, I’m working with you. And if we want this to work, we need to work together so have a little bit of trust in me. I’m on your side.” She did debate how to tell him, when she could get away with telling him, but she had to do it in the best way possible.

“Little songbirds and lords aren’t gonna know what we do in here unless we tell them. So why don’t we get on the same page and report back the same story.”

𝐇𝐄 𝐃𝐈𝐃𝐍’𝐓 𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐒 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐘 𝐎𝐍 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐃𝐒. They were both playing a dangerous game. And the way Kit’s luck was going, he’d get the short end of the stick. Like he thought before, Sparrow was already watching him and he was on thin ice with King. The older one. Cassian wasn’t something to worry about…Yet. Not unless something happened.

“Okay…” The man began. He leaned forward and stared at her, trying to figure Ophelia out. “What’s our story then?”

“He’s good then.” Ophelia muses, running her hand through her hair before catching the look on his face. “Yes, I like him. He’s a sweet boy. Do I like him like that? No, he’s far too young for me.” She teases, eyeing up Gedion as if for emphasis.

“I don’t know what’s going on though. Cass keeps asking about what happened to my family. I think he’s trying to get to know more about me. Maybe he thinks I’m somehow related to everything else that’s going on? I don’t know, but I can’t keep pushing him off. It’ll only make him more suspicious.”

𝐁𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐒 𝐏𝐔𝐒𝐇𝐄 𝐔𝐏 𝐈𝐍 𝐒𝐔𝐑𝐏𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐄. There were parts of Cassian that could be naive if you asked Gedion. But he was a good person. He just hoped Nate and this job didn’t taint that in him.

“He just wants to help. One of Cass’ traits; helping people. Especially those he’s fond of. He helped me pick out a new dog when my old one died. He helped Sabina find a new place to live when she joined the Ivory. He even got Florence a special stationary set when she celebrated her one year anniversary here. Cassian’s a good kid. Just don’t lead him on, okay? I’d hate to see him broken-hearted.”

𝐇𝐄 𝐇𝐄𝐒𝐈𝐓𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐈𝐍 𝐍𝐎𝐃𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐃. “I’ll show you what I can,” he confirmed. Taking records from their vault was a big no from his father. But Cassian was sure he could make some sort of copy. At least the important bits.

The man wore a soft smile, hand reaching out to squeeze Ophelia’s wrist. “I just want to see you happy. To see you smile. I know this job isn’t always…glamorous. Hell, it’s dangerous and at any moment the FBI, or Police could come raiding our office.” His dad had drilled into him that everyone could be a spy. But Cassian liked to think he had a good read on people. He didn’t think Ophelia was a spy. She was too kind. “But there are good people here.” Cassian thought of Florence and Sabina. Hell, even Gedion. They were kind. Where his father, on the other hand, he was kind up to a point.

“Thank you.” Ophelia spoke softly, grateful that he was even willing to help her. She had him on her side it seemed and she needed to keep it up. Act or not, his desire to see her happy was something she could work with when getting closer to the King family.

“The job is what it is. I knew what I agreed to when I signed on.” Though this was proving to be much harder than she ever imagined. Ophelia gave him a small smile at his words, leaning in a bit closer. “You’re good people. You’re probably the best out of all of us.”

“Then let me help you.” It was a meager offer, but she had to try. She needed Kit’s trust, needed him focused. “I know the feeling though. You’re not alone in that.” Caught between who to really serve. Both rulers were terrifying, and she didn’t want to disappoint either, but she didn’t think she’d be making this out alive either way.

“Look, just… I know you’re a double agent.” Ophelia spoke softly, looking down. “And I am too. I work for Sparrow but Gedion brought me in for the Kings. I don’t even know if he’s not playing both sides as well here. He wants me to be a mole, Nate thinks I’m some thing he can mold to his liking, Lady Sparrow wants me to get inside information and you… you I need on my side. Both sides.”

𝐊𝐈𝐓 𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐋𝐃𝐍’𝐓 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐑𝐎𝐋 𝐇𝐈𝐒 expression when Ophelia called him a double agent. Or when she revealed that she was like him. Orbs grew round as he stared at the red head. What the hell was the world coming to?

“What?” he managed to say, voice croaking. God. He’d been a fool. How had he not seen it? Probably because he was hopped up on too many drugs. Fuck. He was going to die. 

“So, you truly work for Sparrow? You’re not going to double cross her or anything?” Kit couldn’t explain why he was dubious but he was. And Gedion…Kit wasn’t sure what to do with that information. As far as he was concerned, second in command was only concerned with the Kings. He wouldn’t betray his friends. Not like that.

“Course I didn’t sell you out.” Phee replies quickly, though she knows it probably seems guilty. She knew better than crossing Will anyway. If anything, she knows she’d be killed by her before Sparrow would even get word most likely.

“Second and 55. Okay. I’ll be there.” And she was, already nursing a drink when she saw Will arrive. Her nerves were still shot but she needed to fill her in. Then maybe she’d get a bit of a break for a day or two from all of this.

𝐖𝐈𝐋𝐋 𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄 between visits as a nervous wreck. She wanted out, honestly. That’s what she wanted. The woman thought she could handle this. But one person taking on the Kings….Fuck. She was in over her head. She thought Ophelia had been a Godsend. But that proved to be wrong. The woman was more of a liability if you asked Will.

Finding the red head at the bar, Will sat down and ordered a finger of scotch. Wary gaze lingered on Ophelia. She looked like she was going to crack at any minute. “Spill,” Will demanded.

“Thirty minutes, alright.” She nodded, sighing softly at the state she was in. She needed to be better than this. She’d never be taken seriously if she was crying like this.

But the time passed quickly and Ophelia soon followed her out to the cab. “Yeah, maybe a slice. Thanks.”

Maybe making a friendship with Sabina would allow her a bit more of an in with the Kings, even if she wasn’t directly involved in the main work. It would be a start. “This is really kind of you to do this. I can’t thank you enough really.”

“𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐀𝐓 𝐀𝐋𝐋, 𝐒𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐓𝐈𝐄.” The woman flashed a smile over her shoulder. Slipping her key into the lock, she opened the main door before waking up three flights of stairs to her apartment. Holding the door open for Ophelia, she allowed the woman to walk in.

As she locked the door behind her, which held many locks, Sabina called into the room, “Make yourself at home.” And then she flipped on the lights and kicked off her shoes. Photographs upon photographs were littered everywhere. Most were of his parents, a few of herself, some with friends, others during different points in her life. There were also landscape and cityscape photographs hanging on her walls too. “Also, don’t mind the mess,” she laughed, kicking a few blankets out of the way.

Entering the kitchen, Sabina pulled the pizza box out and grabbed a couple of plates. Placing them in the microwave, she heated them up. 

“Want a drink?”
