Trew and DJ Melanie Sutherland
Trew and DJ Melanie Sutherland are two talented artists who set out to collaborated on a brand new EP., “From VA to The 6ix”. Recently, they decided to pre-release two of the songs from the EP, giving fans a hint of what to expect in terms of sound and vision. The tracks are titled “That Vibe” as well as “Night On Fire” (which also features the talented Casey Shea). These songs are stunning combination of hip-hop, house and electronica, going for punchy beats, heavy grooves and lots of energy. The American/Canadian collaboration (Trew is from Virginia, while Melanie is from Toronto, Ontario), has a really balanced sound, with lots of vibes and world class production value, echoing the work of influential artists such as Chance The Rapper, Chris Brown, Childish Gambino, Theophilus London and many more. The balance between the club-oriented elements in the music and the sheer rap flow is truly spot-on, with arrangements that are always edgy, keeping listeners engaged from the start to the end of the songs. On “That Vibe”, the rap twist is slightly stronger, while “Night On Fire” leans a bit more towards explosive house feels.
