@thekingofsindria
Sinbad slightly furrowed his eyebrows at her response. The thought of her family angered him a bit. They willing had relations with Al Sarmen, harbouring corrupt people like Judal and Ren Gyokuen. Their lust for power and strength is causing obvious disorder within their very walls, and yet those bigots don’t even notice. How sad.
Thanks to Judal, Kou Empire had seven djinn under their command—excluding Zagan, the djinn that was under Hakuryuu’s command. No, the dungeon conquer that made him worry the most was the first prince, Ren Kouen. He had captured a total of three djinn, albeit several less than how much he had in his command, it was still something to be worried about, especially since Judal keeps on motivating them to initiate war with Sindria. The fact that the witch of Al Sarmen has now taken over as emperor isn’t reassuring either. He had always feared that Kouen would take over the reign; however this outcome may be worse. He wondered…what might have caused this? Why choose the Gyokuen as the emperor instead of Kouen?
Perhaps, he thought, he could get information from the princess regarding these matters, perhaps this is her purpose for his cause. He would, of course, bring it up as subtle as possible. One thing he knew about the eighth princess of the Kou Empire, she wasn’t stupid, and that was for sure. But when it came to cunningness, he was king.  “It’s nice to see that you care for them.” Sinbad noticed her face turning a bright red, but nonetheless he continued, “They are very lucky to have someone as kind and as beautiful as you, princess.”
Sinbad turned to face her, a somewhat grim look on his face. “I came to pay my respects to the late emperor… your father…” He picked out a beautiful flower from the field they were sitting on. “You have my condolences, princess.” He placed the flower in her hair and gave her a caring smile.
He chose he words carefully, “I had heard that the next emperor was chosen.” He had a general look on his face, “I must admit—I was surprised that they hadn’t chosen your brother, the first prince; instead they chose the empress.” He gazed into her eyes, “You must have been upset…”
It wasn’t very often that Kougyoku was complimented—aside from the casual compliments she received from Ka Koubun every now and then, there were few people that directed kind words at her. Most of them were servants and people that worked in the palace, but the princess knew those words to be nothing more than formality. So when she heard Sinbad’s compliment she was at a loss for words—she didn’t know how to reply to it, and she wasn’t sure if it was the fact that someone was complimenting her or the person that was doing it that made her heart flutter and her breath catch in her throat. It was probably both.
The princess stared at the man beside her with wide eyes and bright red cheeks, her mouth slightly open, wondering if this was a dream she was having. Sinbad was a gentleman, and he had been very caring towards her, but Kougyoku still couldn’t get used to gestures like this, and she thought she never would. The feeling of his hand brushing against her hair snapped her back to reality, and she directed her gaze to his face, subconsciously leaning slightly to his touch, and she lifted a hand to touch the flower that he had just put in her hair. “I…—thank you” the redhead spoke quietly, with a small smile on her face, directing her gaze to her lap at the mention of her late father, the image of the late Emperor’s body was something the princess didn’t want to remember; and she did her best to forget it.
When she heard Sinbad’s next words, Kougyoku bit her lower lip before answering, not knowing what to reply with—of course she was upset, she never really liked Gyokuen and she still didn’t understand why her father had chosen her instead of Kouen, who the princess thought was much more fitting for the role of Emperor than Gyokuen. “You weren’t the only surprised one, we all were” she started, being as careful as she could with her words, “And well, I do am upset about it, but what can I do?”
“My words have no meaning in the Empire, and I’m not strong enough to go against the Empress. Besides, it was my father’s last will” at this she made a pause and furrowed her brows, placing her hands on her lap and making two tiny fists as she thought if it really was her father’s wish that Gyokuen took charge as the Empreror of the Kou Empire. “At the moment we were all shocked… We all anticipated brother—I mean, Lord Kouen, to inherit the title of Emperor, and his vassals weren’t happy with the turn of events. I believe… nobody besides the Empress and the Imperial Priests was.” The princess exhaled, biting her lower lip and wondering if she was talking too much. She could trust Sinbad—or that’s what she wanted to believe—but she shouldn’t be talking about her family’s internal conflicts with someone who could be viewed as a potential enemy for the Kou Empire.
The princess furrowed her eyebrows once again, thinking that with Gyokuen in charge she could do nothing to stop her if she wanted to wage war against Sindria, and she voiced her thoughts before she could realize it, “I-I am actually… a little bit scared of what’s going to happen from now on, with Gyokuen-sama as the Emperor… If she were to seek war with Sindria I—I wouldn’t be able to stop her whatsoever”
Sinbad shifted his eyes to the right, perhaps it was wrong him to ask about her father's death, he thought, after all he knew what it felt like to lose a father. No, he needed more information—why did they choose Gyokuen over Kouen? Did Al Sarmen really have that much authority over the Kou Empire? Sinbad knew the Al Sarmen had ties to Kou, but he didn't think it was this… bad. Better question was… what was Kouen’s view in all this? Surely he wasn't the man to stand aside and let things happen the way they were. With all the boasting he’s made—about him becoming King of the world, and how only great men are chosen—yes, Sinbad found it hard to believe that he planned to sit around idly… no, he was planning something. Sinbad needed to know what that was. His only answer was the princess, he had to get more information out of her--perhaps if he…
He placed his hand under her chin and raised her head, “Forgive me, princess—I know this is hard for you…” His stare on her unwavering, “you… you've lost so much… I… don’t know how to… I don’t know how to make you happy.” He looked into her eyes lovingly, “To make you smile… like you used to.” But then he looked down and turned away from her. If they had continued their talk her, then someone would overhear indefinitely, he needed to take her away—somewhere where even his subordinates knew nothing of. He had no time to feel sympathy for her, it’s like Ja’far said—I chose this path, there’s no going back.
“Princess… there’s this surprise that I would like to show you…” He turned around to face her with a smile, “but I can only show you when day breaks tomorrow.” He reached down and held her small hands in his, “are you willing to wait until then?”
It was a bright, beautiful, sunny day. Way too beautiful to stay indoors and sign papers all day, that was a given—so Sinbad decided to take a walk around the palace. If Ja’far had caught him on his leisurely stroll, then his excuse would be “But I’m just checking on the palace to see if every is in order! After all, that is but one of the many duties of a king, right?!”
…
Of course, he had hoped he wouldn’t need to use that excuse—in other words, he didn’t want to run into Ja’far. I doubt he’d even buy the excuse.
Sinbad was taking his walk around the palace when he saw Pisti with a flock of animals in the central garden. It’s been awhile since the two of them had a normal chat; thanks to Al Sarmen’s recent activity, he—and the eight generals—hadn’t had the time to chat like the good old days.
He made his way over to them with a smile. “Ah Pisti, might I join you or…?” He gave a warm smile, “Are you busy?”
“Oh, hello there Sinbad!” Pisti replied cheerfully as she continued to play around with the flock of birds near her feet. “It’s no problem; here’s some feed.” She scooped a large handful out of a nearby bag of seeds and handed it to him before suddenly pulling out her flute and jumping up and down excitedly.
“Sinbad, do you want to see my new trick?” she asked him, obviously eager, and without even waiting for his answer, put the flute to her mouth and blew a soft tweet that wove its way into a beautiful tune.
The birds around her suddenly took into the air, circling and diving in patterns through the bright clear sky that was a perfect backdrop. They formed a ring around the sun, then a six-pointed star. All throughout the process more birds joined until finally, all of them formed a slightly-similar-looking caricature of Sinbad himself.
The birds flew away as Pisti stopped playing the flute, and she slumped to the ground, wiping sweat off her brow. “Whew, I’m pooped! How’d you like it, Sinbad?” she asked with a weary but still-cheerful and even slightly mischievous grin on her face.
Sinbad raised a hand above his head to shield his eyes from the bright sun. He stared at the bird show being performed in the sky, courtesy of Pisti. He laughed merrily as the birds formed into a rather amazing shape of Sinbad.
He started clapping once the birds dissipated. “Amazing! Absolutely amazing, Pisti!” Sinbad was having a hard time stopping his laughter; when was the last time saw something like that? When was the last time he was truly enjoyed himself? When was the last time he had fun?
He crouched next to Pisti with a questioning look on his face. “When… when did you learn that?” He shook his head and stared at her eagerly, “You must perform that trick during our next banquet!” He snickered, “AND I won’t take no as an answer!” He titled his head in thought for a moment, “Hmmm…” He snapped his fingers as he thought of a brilliant idea—although truth be told, more bold than brilliant. He smiled warmly at her. “Pisti, can we go flying? Like we used to?”
Sinbad chuckled, “ah, it’s no problem at all—after all, this is but one of the duties of a King, right?”
He took the stack of papers that the princess handed him and placed then on his desk. It would appear he wouldn’t get any sleep tonight, he slightly sighed at the thought. He quickly replaced his bereaved look with a smile, then turned back to face the princess. “Thank you very much for taking the time to deliver these treaties to me princess, I am truly grateful.” He bowed once more.
“How fares the emperor?” He stood stood from his bow, a more serious look appearing on his face. “I had heard he was ill.”
“It was no problem, your highness.” The princess hid her pain with a smile. The journey was actually quite difficult. Traveling over seas, just to deliver some papers. Hakuei wanted to make her stay her worthwhile, “Your highness, if it doesn’t bother you, some of my subordinates are sick from the journey here. As princess of the Kou Empire, I am asking the King of Sindria for permission to reside here until my subordinates are well again.”
Hakuei was hesitant to ask, but she knew that she had too. Besides, the princess can’t resist the urge to explore this new land. This was her first time visiting this country, and she is very satisfied on what she has seen so far.
Hakuei jumped in shock when he heard what the king asked. “You haven’t heard about it yet?” The bad memories were already making her tear up, but she bit her lip to prevent it. “The Emperor… passed away a couple years ago…”
Sinbad gave the princess a warm smile, "Of course you may stay here, princess!" He nodded. "For as long as you need. I wouldn't want you to head back without your subordinates getting proper care first.”
Yes, Sinbad nodded and agreed happily with the princess request not because of sympathy for her ill subordinates, but because he thought this would be a perfect opportunity to know more about her. He knew that her younger brother, the fourth prince of the Kou Empire, Hakuryuu, sought out to take control of the Kou Empire. He sought out a civil war. The fourth prince had asked Sinbad for his support and although Sinbad had told him that he would think about it, he actually had no intention of going to war with the Kou Empire. But he wanted to know… how the first princess felt about this matter. Was she to support her beloved brother or no? Perhaps she knows more than her brother concerning diplomatic issues of the Kou Empire. Nonetheless, Ren Hakuei could prove to be a most suitable ally.
“Since you’re staying—I would like an audience with you in the near future concerning these papers you delivered.” He continued, “… if that’s al right with you, princess?"
Sinbad furrowed his brows, “I had heard the emperor was gravely ill, and some rumours that he had passed but nothing official.” He bowed his head slightly, “I, as well as Sindria, are sorry for the Kou Empire’s loss.” He tilted his head and sighed, “I’ve met the emperor on several occasions and he was truly a great man.” He slightly narrowed his eyes, “Have they named his successor, yet? Rumours say it’s not Ren Kouen, but Ren Gyokuen?”

It was a bright, beautiful, sunny day. Way too beautiful to stay indoors and sign papers all day, that was a given--so Sinbad decided to take a walk around the palace. If Ja'far had caught him on his leisurely stroll, then his excuse would be "But I'm just checking on the palace to see if every is in order! After all, that is but one of the many duties of a king, right?!"
...
Of course, he had hoped he wouldn't need to use that excuse--in other words, he didn't want to run into Ja'far. I doubt he'd even buy the excuse.
Sinbad was taking his walk around the palace when he saw Pisti with a flock of animals in the central garden. It's been awhile since the two of them had a normal chat; thanks to Al Sarmen's recent activity, he--and the eight generals--hadn't had the time to chat like the good old days.
He made his way over to them with a smile. "Ah Pisti, might I join you or...?" He gave a warm smile, "Are you busy?"
As he stared down at her, he recalled what Ja’far had said—“you really are a bad person, Sin.”—Sinbad narrowed his eyes; he may have become someone he didn’t want to become however… it was for the good of his country and the world. He made a promise to himself, that he would succeed no matter what the cost… but… he couldn’t help but feel bad about what he was doing.
He snapped back to reality by the sound of Kougyoku’s voice.
Sinbad’s smile got brighter. He held her hands slightly tighter and brought them close to his face, “I was merely teasing you, princess.” He then released her hands and turned away from her. The wind blew through his hair, “ahhhhhh, today is a beautiful day.”
It was quiet for several moments, until he finally spoke.
“You wanted to know what I was up to…” He then turned to face her, “…I was looking for you.” He walked over to her, “I was worried about you—you left my kingdom looking rather dejected…”
He sat down on the field and gestured his hands towards her, “come and join me, princess.”
Kougyoku was so lost in her own thoughts and the feeling of her hands in Sinbad’s that she didn’t notice him getting lost in his own thoughts, and his voice startled her a bit, breaking her out of her daydream. She wondered how much warmer could her face get before smoke started to come out of her ears at Sinbad’s gesture. “I-It really is a beautiful day” she said, a bit disappointed that the man had released her hands from his grip and annoyed at herself for stuttering this much. But then again, it wasn’t like she could control it.
A silence made its presence between them, and the princess was starting to wonder if she had said something inappropriate, or if she was annoying the king with her stuttering. She was about to ask if something was wrong when Sinbad’s voice reached her ears, and what he said certainly didn’t help controlling her stuttering, but it did make her put on a bright, wide smile on her face in spite of herself.
“You were looking for me?” she asked, although it was a rather stupid question―he had just said that he was, indeed, looking for her. Upon hearing his next words though, she waved a hand dismissively “Oh―” she started, as she sat down beside him; her smile still present. “―Don’t worry about that, Sinbad, I was merely having so much fun here that I almost didn’t want to go back to the Kou Empire.” She spoke, thinking about all those exceptionally good times she spent in Sindria, compared to the boring life back at the palace where she lived.
“But I was also worried about my brothers and sisters, and I can’t stay here forever now can I?”
How sad.

Sinbad halted at the sight of her, Ren Kougyoku, the eighth princess of the Kou Empire. He smiled and made his way towards her.
“Princess, it’s been awhile!” He reached down to hold her hands lightly in his. “I hope you  haven’t forgotten about me.” He laughed slightly.
Kougyoku had been distracted with a field full with pretty flowers when she heard a voice approaching her and startled, she turned around, only to find the person she haven’t been expecting to find today; none other than Sinbad, the king of Sindria. “S-Sinbad-sama…!” she stuttered, a bright blush on her face, and quickly corrected her words. “I-I mean, king Sinbad! It’s been a while indeed.”
Her blush deepened when she felt his hands wrapping around hers, and she could only give him a nervous smile, hoping that the thumping of her heart wasn’t loud enough for him to hear. “H-how could I ever forget about you after all you’ve done for me, Sinbad?” she asked, trying to calm herself down. She didn’t want to act like a silly girl and embarrass herself in front of him.
Taking a look at her hands still in his, she directed her gaze towards the man in front of her after a moment and offered him a kind smile, albeit a bit shy. “What have you been up to, if I may ask?”
As he stared down at her, he recalled what Ja’far had said—“you really are a bad person, Sin.”—Sinbad narrowed his eyes; he may have become someone he didn’t want to become however… it was for the good of his country and the world. He sat down on the field and gestured his hands towards her, "come and join me, princess."
Sinbad looked up from his papers upon hearing a sound near his door. He tilted his head, “Ren Hakuei…” he thought.
Ren Hakuei; The first princess of the Kou Empire and one of their illustrious dungeon capturers. He knew that the Kou Empire planned on sending a representative to discuss the treaty, however he never expected the Emperor to send the first princess. He narrowed his eyes—there had to be some other motive behind this.
Nonetheless, he put on a warm smile and got up from his seat. “I had expected the emperor to send some one else as his representative, a man—but instead I see that I’m to discuss politics with a beautiful young woman…” He bowed in response to her presence, “it is an honour to finally meet you, princess.”
The princess lifted her head up saw the king giving her a bright smile. She frowned a little bit when she heard his compliment. She heard rumors about the king of Sindria and how he was well with women. She knew that her cousin, Ren Kougyoku, fell for the king.
“It is an honor to meet you as well.” Hakuei took out a stack of wrinkled paper out from her bag, “I see you are already drowned with paperwork. I’m sorry to say I have more for you.”
The princess couldn’t help but smile at the King’s reaction when she gave him the stack. She could tell that the king was a lazy king, but she didn’t mind, since she understands the tiring and difficult role of being part of royalty.
Sinbad chuckled, "ah, it's no problem at all--after all, this is but one of the duties of a King, right?"
He took the stack of papers that the princess handed him and placed then on his desk. It would appear he wouldn't get any sleep tonight, he slightly sighed at the thought. Sinbad scratched the back of his head. “I should probably finish signing these papers… but I’m just too tired.” He yawned and stretched out his arms, “I’m sure Ja’far wouldn’t mind if I took a nap…”
He thought long and hard about what he had just said. “…”
“I may regret making this choice.”
Hakuei hesitated to knock on the wooden door. She knew who was on the other side, and that was why she was so nervous to knock. On the other side of the door was one of the most powerful figures in the whole world. He is the person that captured 7 dungeons, he was Sinbad of the Seven Seas. The princess took a deep breath and pushed on the door lightly.
“Sorry to intrude. My name is Ren Hakuei, the 1st princess of the Kou Empire. I have come to discuss about treaty between Sindria and the Kou Empire.” Hakuei bowed her head and greated the king, avoiding eye contact.
Sinbad looked up from his papers upon hearing a sound near his door. He tilted his head, "Ren Hakuei..." he thought.
