Waiting for the world to end.
There was a scratching at the door. He let Gaspode in. The little dog slunk under the table, saying nothing.
Then Carrot went up to his room, sat in his chair and looked out the window.
The afternoon wore on. The rain stopped around teatime.
Presently, the moon rose.
The door opened. Angua entered, walking softly.
Carrot turned, and smiled.
‘I wasn’t certain,’ he said. ‘But I thought, well, isn’t it only silver that kills them? I just had to hope.’
'This game is not for kids, hey.’
Not when we play, no.
"You know," said Arthur, "it's at times like this, when I'm trapped in a Vogon airlock with a man from Betelgeuse, and about to die of asphyxiation in deep space that I really wish I'd listened to what my mother told me when I was young." "Why, what did she tell you?" "I don't know, I didn't listen."
Kalinda Black - tall, blonde, and scary. Also a kick-ass historian.
I’mma scrounge around for an appropriate quote, but it’s half past 3 in the morning so just a reclined Chief Training Officer Tim Peterson will have to do for now.
‘Dr. Maxwell. Why are you wearing a red snake in my office?’
‘Sorry, sir. Whose office should I be wearing it in?’
- A symphony of Echoes
Not gonna lie, had heaps of fun drawing her hair and piling it all on top in a bun. Something oddly satisfying about that (god knows I could never get my hair to look that adorably messy). Also, played around with the blues of her jumpsuit to avoid it looking too denim-like, not sure I quite achieved it, but oh well. Denim jumpsuits are in vogue now, right? Right?
So I forgot my book the other day, and decided to wander over to the local bookstore to hunt for something to read over my lunch break. Of course, I ended up spending most of my lunch break just perusing the shelves themselves. With 10 minutes left, I was about to give up when the handwritten Staff Suggestion caught my eye. What’s that, time travel, you say? Chaos? Sassy heroine? I’m in.
I ended up in a cafe for a quick hot choccy and salted caramel doughnuts (nutritious), and sneaking an extra 10 minutes on my break, as I was completely captivated by the Chronicles of St Mary’s.
So much so that I decided to visualise some of the characters from the book, starting with the Chief (who doesn’t love the Chief?). Partly because I can’t get the book out of my head (I’ve finished the second one and am rereading the first one whilst waiting for the next three to arrive in the post), and partly because I’m trying to practice this style of illustration and just wanted to start somewhere.
So here’s our good-natured Leon Farrell, with his startling grey-blue eyes and orange jumpsuit.
This one deserves to go on the fridge.
Well, that, and the general lack of exercise.
Also, lining up your Maltesers along the keyboard as a sort of reward system for getting the Demonic Presence back down to safe levels is probably not helping either.
Dentist: *noticing my birthmark* Oh! What happened? Did someone hurt you?
Me: Oh, no, no. That's just my birthmark. I've always had it.
Dentist: Right. I didn't notice it last week, so I was a little worried.
Me: No, I'm okay. I'm not hurt. I didn't... Walk into a door, or anything like that.
Dentist: Okay... But if you're not all right, you let me know, okay?

After recounting this exchange to Majed -
Majed: I can never go back to that dentist ever again.

On the plus, my dentist is a sweetheart for caring.

This was one of my favourite scenes. Also - fun fact, had to google what madras shorts were, then realised they were THOSE shorts that my brother (and probably everyone’s brother) had when he was a kid.
Revisiting childhood memories.
