“You think every citizen should have access to free and accessible healthcare?”
Wrong!!!
I think that Asylum seekers and Migrant workers and The Undocumented and Everyone Else should get free healthcare too
I love immigration
This one made the fascists and the racists really really mad. I get hate mail daily for this post
Imagine getting mad because someone else’s child’s chemotherapy doesn’t cost them 100,000$ .
the backbone of this damn website is some 15 year old drawing transgender headcanons of your dad's favourite movie character from the 1970s
You’re never too old to collect figures.
You’re never too old to be in a fandom.
You’re never too old to play video games.
You’re never too old to listen to music.
You’re never too old to enjoy things.
The one good thing I will say about Wuthering Heights is its a great confidence booster if you feel insecure about your writing at all
Emily Brontë, from "Wuthering Heights," originally published in 1847
go white girl go! oh. oh god white girl i’ve never seen anyone mischaracterize him that bad. stop white girl stop!
"Emily Brontë doesn't care, why do you??" well first off she's dead, so she literally can't care, which is why it's my sacred duty as a wuthering heights fan to be a huge bitch about this horrible adaptation on her behalf
they already MADE a perfect wuthering heights adaptation. it came out in 1978 and it’s three minutes forty five seconds long and it’s by kate bush
So Fennell whitewashed the most important character in the story AND changes an abusive relationship into "she was asking for it! because she was into it!!!" How is this defensible? wuthering heights came out in the 1840s, was a groundbreaking novel on abuse and oppression, and the only thing a hundred plus years has made us think to add is "the rape/abuse victim was actually INTO being abused" great. well done. fantastic.
There are lots of negative reviews of WH from people who Get It (read the book and/or actually care about whitewashing; and if you don't care about that, then I don't think you have the Juice to critically review the film), and I knew there would be positive ones...
But the positive ones I find disturbing are those that go "hey, turn your brain off, it's FINE".
Because I'm actually... tired of turning my brain off.
And I don't think I need to turn my brain off to enjoy, say, a love story. Or an erotic film, for that matter.
Like, I won't deny that I have enjoyed a "turn my brain off" movie or book, but it's the frequency with which we're being asked to just shut up, turn our brains off, and enjoy something mindless like All is Fair, The Beauty, and now Wuthering Heights of all things that bothers me.
Mass anti-intellectualism.
Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.
Ah yes, Wuthering Heights, the "greatest love story of all time" where [checks notes] an orphaned boy endures so much abuse, ostracisation and bigotry that his hatred overcomes him and he enacts cruel revenge on multiple generations of his own family, in the aftermath of getting rejected by the girl he trauma-bonded with during childhood and whose premature death so deranges him that he digs up her corpse multiple times, stewing in loathing, misanthropy and alienation that eventually drive him so mad that he starves himself to death.
That love story?
