Post Mordem
Hello again, Ota speaking and we are approaching the end of the our school year and graduating soon but I’m proud to say we made a game demo!
We made it what we seek out to make which was a 2D Point & Click Adventure Game in Unity3D!
In all honesty though, the road there wasn’t easy for our initial scope was too big or too ambitious for the given time we had. Initially we wanted to release a chapter 1 along with the prologue and tutorial. However, we went overboard or over time on pre-production so there not enough time for post-production and time to learn new skills to develop the game. But what we made was presentable and playable. All the mechanic systems work, despite lack of optimization.
If we redid this project, we plan things out more thoroughly and give more space and flexibility if things happens during pre-production stages. My teammate wished that she built game mechanics over the summer and wants more refined/dynamic cut scenes. As for my part I wished to have animated most things on Unity sooner because it’s more efficient and more quicker to implement in the game. I also wished that I didn’t dawdle on pre-production as much as I did and also worked on it during the summer.
Ultimately, it was different experience for both of us as we both learned different skills along the way. My teammate learned how to organized C# scripts and designed game mechanics in Unity. I learned how to be more flexible and animate in Unity. We both learned how to communicate with a composer for the first time and (unfortunately) run through the day with a small amount of sleep.
But from here we will continue to build our game to it’s original length as intended. We’re planning on showing our game in indie game conventions. And we’re planning to send out a free demo of our game online in Itch.io!
Overall thank you so much for following this blog up to now! I’ll keep you guys update as much as possible!
Kit’s surprised that we’re done.
MAY UPDATE!~~~~
Hello! Ota here to update you guys on the game! Sorry for not keeping up with the blog on a weekly basis but here’s our game’s screenshots!~
These screenshots highlight the game basic functions. It’s a mixture of both click & point and visual novel functions with a dictionary!
For the most part we got what we wanted to showcase for the Thesis exhibit despite having to cut out some parts and minor bugging. Much hope to go further on this project in the future.
April Update! We have screenshots of the updated UI and BG! And it plays! yay
.....: D...
It’s spring break now but that means CRUNCH TIME X 10000000 🔥🔥🔥
March Update
Spring Break is here but who said it was a break :’D
Here, coder z04 speaking! Core game mechanics are about 80-90% done and I’m currently building the tutorial, but once our Spring Break is over, hopefully this gif will be more polished ><;d
Here’s a glimpse of that mysterious island that Kit ends up in along with the (so far) residence that live there.
??? : But what is that you need? A ride to town perhaps?
KIT : Uh?
A little doodle of these two while i fix our script! 0>-< It’s 85% done....
February Update
Hey everyone!
Sorry for the lack for updates this month! We’ve been busy with this game, but finally, an update!
Atticus?
Atticus is Orez island’s designated self-made, helpful trike driver! He’s also a cheesy extrovert that loves throwing catchphrases or jokes that most of the residents don’t get.
Our Project?
This game is actually our(z04/ota) Thesis! We started this project last summer, researching our cultural heritage, the landscapes, other adventure games, and most importantly, Unity3D!
We couldn’t have started without the help of our peers and professors!
Deadline?
Hopefully by mid-March, the game should be functional, while testing out rough animations! April is when we’ll start testing, updating UI, and refining assets!
May is our definitive due date for our demo! (Our grades are at stake!)
Hello Everyone! We are happy to announce the start of our development blog for our thesis project! It’s a collaborative effort between @z04 + @outtoadventure ! We have been fortunate enough to have start off the development earlier but would now gladly show our progress thus far here.
The Last Stop is a Chinese-Filipino inspired Point & Click 2D Adventure Game about a college student, Christopher “Kit” Chen.
After a quick nap on the train, Kit finds himself stranded on Orez Island with no money to get back home. Luckily, the island is populated with some unique residents…
