WE ARE DIABETES

Asha Brown started a really amazing company, We Are Diabetes www.wearediabetes.org , which is a resource for type 1 diabetics who suffer from eating disorders. Asha came to me with the idea of creating an image showing all the internal emotions and pain people with these conditions have to struggle with every day. It was really amazing working with Asha on this as she is a very talented actress and was able to create incredibly strong emotions and even worked up some tears for the shoot. While I usually hope to not have people cry on my shoots, this was an exception.

Old Style Oktoberfest Beer-Back in La Crosse, WI after 15 years

I was hired to work with the brand manager of Old Style Beer to document and video the first run of cans of their new Oktoberfest beer that is being brewed at City Brewery in La Crosse, WI.  It ended up being a late night the first day because switching between different beers on the bottling line takes way more work than I ever imagined so what was supposed to be a 9pm job was pushed to midnight.  It was really fun though getting to see all the steps in the canning, boxing, and crating process.  My main job that night was to get short video clips of the different processes.

The next day they had a publicity event and took a case of Oktoberfest to the Mayor's office. 

We were given a fun tour of brewmaster Randy Hughes' office, which is basically an Old Style museum. 

Later that day I was tasked with taking the Oktoberfest cans on an adventure around La Crosse with Courtney Daniels who works for Oktoberfest USA.

Oktoberfest USA with Old Style Beer

My second job with Old Style was to photograph and video the 2016 Oktoberfest in La Crosse, WI. Old Style has just created an Oktoberfest beer which was the featured beer and golden keg for Oktoberfest USA. 

We also had some fun with some of the wall art.  Picture the cry of an eagle and the sound of wind. 

I captured little moments around Oktoberfest while videographer Alfredo Roman had his drone in the sky.

AAKSO - artistic sculpture duo

I have had a major artist crush on the artistic duo AAKSO (Amy Arnold and Kelsey Sauber Olds) for a couple years now and have collected 3 of their small wall hanging sculptures.  I finally had the opportunity to photograph them along with special appearances from their their three children. AAKSO's sculptures are very quirky and weird with a rustic, hand cut feel that is both simplistic and beautiful.  They have a mix between a childlike whimsy and a surreal vulgarity that I really love. www.aakso.org
