booze is always a good option
dulceretrogrado:
“don’t worry. their strong– there’s a whole pitcher and yeah. deathly. i’m on my second so you’ll have to play catch up and…” she’s rambling– the first tell tale sign of her nervousness, though her body was doing it too. she doesn’t know what to do around him– how to be. “um sophia– she invited me up. thought i could use the beach. i like sandcastles… but you already knew that.” she wants the ground to swallow her up for a moment. “uh.. let me show you.. the mojitos.” she leads him to the kitchen and points to the fridge. “there’s a very large jug in there– but i think i need to– i’ll be right back.”
her last words are close to a squeak– before she’s ducking into her room. she emerges 5 minutes later in sweatpants and a crop top and finds herself watching him from the doorway. he looks–very much the same.
“sorry– i was too busy having a heart attack five minutes ago to ask.. what are you doing here?”
god, this is kind of awkward. being awkward around beya isn’t a thing---it’s never been a thing. it shouldn’t be a thing. he pours himself a tall glass and takes two big chugs, almost choking, just as she returns. “how many bottles of rum did you put in this?” smiling, he takes another gulp before setting his cup down. “ah. so you’re not too famous to come back to the old stomping grounds, huh? i needed time away from the city...from life. and here we are.” it almost doesn’t feel like she’s been out of his life for as long as she has. faith’s still one of beya’s biggest fans and constantly talks about tabloid gossip and interviews that she reads in magazines no matter how much he tells her to save it for her mother.
“you look good,” he’s still smiling as he holds out his arms for a hug. “c’mon, bring it in. it’s good to see you.”

she needs to end her summer here. she’s sure of it before she pulls up at the old, familiar house, sure of it before she feels the sand in between her toes. but once she get’s there, walks through familiar hallway, picks out her old room and stows her luggage away, makes a jug worth of mojjtos, she feels like she’s completed a ritual of some sorts. she looks the same to the walls– not too much has changed. just things like tattoos, and the colour of her hair. sophia will be late– she knows that much, so she changes, and heads to the water to get rid of any trace of LA on her skin.
she’s stretched out on a beach chair, still wet from her swim, when she hears the back door slam. “mama soph– you’re earl–” she nearly chokes on her words when she sees him– she can damn near feel every hair on her body stand on end.
cool. she’s supposed to play it cool. she read that somewhere.
“daniel… i… ” she lifts her drink glass and gets to her feet. “i have mojitos.”
a trip to the vacation house came from a deep need to get away from the city. daniel can’t even remember the last time he took a vacation—a real vacation. no paperwork. no cellphone service ( okay, maybe cellphone service. but he’s only taking life or death calls. you can do that when you’re the boss). just the sound and cool breeze from the water to focus on. that’s what he wanted. stepping into the familiar house he could immediately tell something was…off. it looked like someone had recently been in the kitchen, and one of the bedroom doors was still open.
leaving his things by the front door he ventures towards the back door, immediately spotting someone on a lounge chair. expecting sophia to be the culprit he steps outside, ready to tease her.
“oh.” it wasn’t sophia. “beya, hi…” he’s at a loss for words for the first time in a long time. he can feel his emotions starting to swirl chaotically—but before he can sort them out he’ll need a big drink and a cigarette. “i could use a mojito. a strong mojito. what are you doing here?”
Just put me in the car and drive so far, until I’m free again. And whisper in my ear that all these years, I’ve been dreaming.
#... #she needs to be decked out #what is there not to understand #??
You and Soph should've designated ONE PERSON as the shoe buyer. Between you and her I think we're going to need more closets.
