I drew Hilda from Pokemon BW like one month ago and the tags are crawling with girls saying she was a "there were no signs" kind of situation when they were kids. I did not know I wasn't the only one.
To be fair to me it was a mix between Hilda and especially Serena from XY, who I spent an embarassing amount of time customizing at twelve in the night on my DS, very very closeted.
she wears short shorts i wear pant pants

incredibly cool pose, I thought.
Is Archeops gping to land on her arm like a hawk? If so, how heavy is it. Can't be too-

Idk what has sent you on your Pokémon hyperfixation recently but I’m very glad it happened. This recent art and your thoughts abt more mature Pokemon narratives are both great sources of joy :)
What has sent me is replaying Explorers in an emulator with my partner 15 years after my DS stopped working. That game played a big part in how I think about art and in me wanting to do art. It's only natural that I'd be very emotional about it. To a smaller degree, I used to love playing with Serena in gen6 when I was closeted, because of the customization options.
I always liked pokémon designs and used to check them out for references, human and monster alike, but I never really liked the mainline games that much. It's hard to see the games engaging in a fifa-like scheme of selling basically the same thing for 30 years, which is why the spin offs hit much different. I can't afford or want a switch (not a nintendo fan) but I'd love to try pokopia one day. I guess cobblemon will have to do it huh.
In a way I am reminded of my dad's love for star wars. It's a series everyone likes, and if they say they don't, they're lying, but at the end of the day it was a children's film that took a lot of previous influences and made it accessible, in turn becoming a superhit. Pokémon just switches B-series sci-fi pulp for JRPGs, and it's the same principle. My dad hates Disney as much as I hate Nintendo. It's always a matter of capital control over what was in the beginning a very whimsical and genuine idea. I don't think there's ever gonna be a game like Explorers of Sky, just like there never will another The Empire Strikes Back

Archeops is my favourite Pokémon of all time and this artwork makes it look so badass and amazing! :0
Sorry for the flashbang random person online but I want to point out that it's remarkable how no matter which one of these creatures I draw, it's always someone's favourite, or at the very least they have happy childhood memories about it
(smoking a cigarette) the average american is afraid of what is new and what is foreign, and especially of what is adult. they are trapped forever in daycares of their own design, reading books and watching shows made for children. And while there are interesting things made for children, by and large, they tend to stick to inoffensive, intensely juvenile things that won't challenge them much. And worst of all, if you suggest to your Average American that they should try to step outside of their narrow box, especially if they're trying to become artists, animators, film makers, novelists, etc, everyone acts as if you've just bombed the daycare. Wow.
I must admit any sequential fanart that has a (current number/total) label from me is basically an attempt to nuke a sensitive american from orbit, while trying to not resort to the old trick "i made tinky winky swear", which is a genre of edgy parody that's also intensely american. i.e. south park. Pikachu will make you face your mortality.
