also!! how did logan start as a lighthouse keeper, and why?

Logan has been the sole lighthouse keeper ever since he was eleven and his uncle, the previous lighthouse keeper, died during a storm. Obviously, if the village knew that a literal child was caring for the lighthouse they'd find a new keeper, but the island is isolated enough so that they don't find out until Logan goes unto town for the first time years later to get his boots replaced. At that point he was 15 and refused to be replaced so the village leaves him to it. At this point in the story, he is in his early 30s and has been taking care of the lighthouse for over 20 years.

oo feel free to use this as an excuse to tell us about the setting! what's this world like? how different is it to a "regular" universe? how do things work? what time period is it in?

Thank you for asking!!!! The general world is very similar to our own, but without mant forms of modern technology. There aren't any computers but there are things like landline/rotary phones. Most medical technology is replaced by magical healers who can 'rewind' someone's body to get rid of injuries or illnesses. Several kinds of humanoid and non-humanoid sapient life coexist on Earth but it isn't always harmonious. The town that Patton lives in and Logan protects is most comparable to a small coastal village in Maine. Other than small magic and monster tomfoolery every once in a while, the world is the same.
