The trauma bay finally settles into something resembling order after the patient disappears upstairs with surgery, leaving behind the familiar aftermath of discarded wrappers, blood-speckled gloves, and half-finished cups of coffee. John pulls off his gloves with a tired exhale, rubbing the back of his neck before glancing down at the CT images still open on his tablet. Satisfied that everything was finally in motion, he heads toward the elevators, only to step aside at the last second as someone in navy scrubs comes through the doors from the opposite direction. They both shift the same way, then the other, earning a faint, sheepish smile from Carter.
"Sorry." He lets the other physician pass before his eyes catch the neurosurgery badge clipped to his scrubs. "Dr. Denbrough?" Extending a hand, he offers an easy smile. "John Carter. Emergency Medicine." His gaze flicks briefly toward the operating rooms before returning to Bill. "I've heard your name a couple of times already. Figured I should finally put a face to it."
A quiet laugh slips out before John can stop it, the kind that comes more from genuine amusement than obligation. "I'll keep that in mind," he says, releasing Bill's hand. "Though I think I'll stick with Bill. Feels a little less formal."
At the question, his shoulders lift in a small shrug. "Busy." A faint smile lingers. "Which, from what I've seen, is pretty much the default setting around here." He shifts the tablet beneath one arm, glancing briefly toward the operating rooms as another set of doors swings open before returning his attention to Bill. "I can't complain, though. I'd rather be busy than wondering when the next ambulance is going to roll through the doors."
His expression softens into something more conversational. "Everyone's been great so far. I just haven't had much of a chance to get to know people outside of handing patients off and running back downstairs." The corner of his mouth turns up again. "I've heard you're the person to call when somebody manages to find a creative way to make their brain angry."
His eyes flick toward the OR once more, noticing the controlled pace of people moving in and out of the surgical suite. "Looks like I caught you between cases." He gestures lightly with the tablet. "I don't want to keep you if you've got somewhere to be."

A pair of knuckles taps lightly against the curtain before John steps into the room, a chart tucked beneath one arm. His eyes move quickly but methodically over the patient as he approaches, taking in the bruising across his face, the blood staining one sleeve, and the way he's holding himself before his attention settles on the man himself.
"Good evening." His tone is calm and professional. "I'm Dr. Carter." He sets the chart on the counter and pulls on a pair of gloves. "The paramedics gave us a brief report, but I'd like to examine you myself." He offers a small, reassuring smile. "Can you tell me what happened?" His gaze briefly flicks toward the bloodied sleeve before returning to Silver's face. "After that, we'll get you cleaned up and make sure we haven't missed anything that needs immediate attention."

Two light knocks sound against the curtain before it's drawn back. John steps into the exam room with a tablet tucked beneath one arm, offering a polite, professional smile as he pauses just inside the doorway. The sounds of the emergency department filter in from the hallway, but his attention settles entirely on the woman in the bed.
"Good afternoon." His voice is calm and measured. "I'm Dr. John Carter." He glances briefly at the chart on his tablet before looking back up. "Ms. Wells?" Waiting for a small acknowledgment, he continues, "I know you've already spoken with the nurse, but I'd like to ask you a few questions myself." He sets the tablet on the counter within easy reach, his posture relaxed but attentive. "Can you tell me what brought you into the emergency department today?"

A chart is tucked beneath John's arm as he rounds the corner toward the nurses' station, his attention split between the tracking board and the notes he'd just finished updating on his tablet. He nearly walks past before realizing another physician has stopped beside him, prompting him to glance up with an apologetic smile. "Sorry." His eyes flick to the badge clipped to her scrub top. "Dr. Mohan?" He shifts the tablet against his hip and offers a hand. "John Carter. I don't think we've officially met yet." His gaze drifts toward the board for a moment before returning to her. "Looks like we somehow keep working the same shift without actually crossing paths."

The medical bay is quieter than the rest of the Triskelion, the steady rhythm of cardiac monitors replacing the constant chatter of agents moving through the halls outside. John finishes updating a chart on his tablet before setting it aside, glancing toward the open doorway as footsteps approach. He doesn't need the briefing folder sitting on the counter to recognize the broad-shouldered figure who steps inside. Captain America is hard to miss. Still, after the briefest flicker of recognition, John's attention settles on the healing bruises scattered across Steve's ribs and the faint stiffness in the way he favors one shoulder.
"Steve Rogers?" he says, offering a warm smile as he crosses the room. "I'm Dr. John Carter." He extends a hand, professional but relaxed. "Looks like SHIELD finally decided to let somebody make sure you're not held together by caffeine and stubbornness." The corner of his mouth lifts just a little as he gestures toward the exam table. "Have a seat. Humor me for twenty minutes. Then you can get back to saving the world and I can go back to trying to hunt Clint Barton. He's been avoiding me like the plague."
I grew up watching MASH. it was my favorite show, by far, and today it is still one of my go-to comfort shows. so to see alan alda in ER is everything to me. I know ER is old and this is not news, but it still makes me smile to see him in season 6.

The first time Carter wandered into the cafeteria, he'd laughed it off. The second time, he stopped just inside the entrance and stared at the coffee machines with a look of genuine disbelief. "...You've got to be kidding me." He glanced down at the folded hospital map in one hand, then back at the familiar rows of tables and vending machines, letting out a quiet sigh through his nose. Somehow, despite following the signs with complete confidence, he'd managed to loop back to exactly where he'd started. Again. Refolding the map with considerably less confidence than before, he turned to leave and nearly walked into another resident passing through the doorway.
"Sorry," he said immediately, stepping back with an apologetic smile. "John Carter. New resident in the ED." He held up the map like evidence. "Can you settle an argument? I'm pretty sure this hospital keeps moving the emergency department every time I get close to finding it."
Can you just stop picking up muses no one asked you to play ?
10 people voted yes for me to play Carter and I bet you are the single person who voted no
you being immature enough to send this says more about you, your toxicity, and your obvious impulse control issues than it does about me picking up more muses, whether or not they are wanted

By the fifth hallway, John is reasonably convinced the hospital was designed by someone with a personal grudge against new residents. The map on his phone refuses to match the signs overhead, every corridor seems to branch into three more, and somehow he'd gone from looking for the emergency department to standing outside a set of doors marked Hematology.
"...That's definitely not right," he mutters to himself, rubbing the back of his neck before letting out a quiet breath. He starts to turn around, only to nearly walk straight into someone coming the other way. "Sorry," he says immediately, taking a quick step back. His eyes flick to the physician's badge before offering an apologetic smile. "I'm John Carter... new resident down in the ED." A faint laugh escapes him, equal parts embarrassed and amused. "Any chance you could point me toward emergency before I accidentally end up in pediatrics...again?"

The ambulance doors burst open and John was already moving before the paramedic finished giving report. "Twenty-eight-year-old male, rollover MVC, GCS thirteen, hypotensive en route." His first week at PMTC hadn't dulled the instincts County had drilled into him; he fell into step beside the stretcher, helping guide it into the trauma bay while calling for labs and large-bore IV access. It wasn't until another physician stepped in opposite him that he finally looked up. The attending's badge read Dr. Michael Robinavitch, but John's attention lingered for just a second too long.
His eyes traveled—head to toe and back again—taking in broad shoulders beneath navy scrubs, sleeves pushed carelessly to his forearms, the effortless confidence that came with years in trauma. ...Well. The thought slipped in before he could stop it. Attractive. Very attractive. Just as quickly, he caught himself, cleared his throat, and dropped his gaze back to the patient, hoping nobody had noticed the entirely involuntary once-over he'd just given his new attending.
