Alma De La Cruz | 24 [283 years old] | Vampire | FC: Ana de Armas | TAKEN
âTHERE ISNâT A MORE BEAUTIFUL PARADOX THAN âA STRONG SPIRIT AND A GENTLE HEARTâ.â
There is a certain bittersweet irony that has followed Alma De La Cruz from the day she was born. First of all, 'De La Cruzâ meant 'of the crossâ which was all fine and well when she was human but a little inappropriate once she was turned into a vampire. Before that however she was as human as they came, with one little not-so-human distinction: her family had dedicated their lives to cleaning up after vampires. Two vampires, two awfully notorious vampires named Vivian and Verity Vandeviere. Her family werenât born hunters but they did posses a special connection to the merry murderesses of their time. Alma, in all technicality, is the granddaughter of Vivian Vandeviere. A daughter was born out of wedlock and raised by a loving, adoptive family and later went on to have a daughter of her own and that daughter was Alma. Her family had strong values and were honest with Alma from the start, they spared no details on emphasizing to her how dangerous the demons were and how they were duty bound to protect the innocent lives left behind. In a way, it was a burden passed down from mother to daughter but Alma tried not to think of it that way. No matter what they had become, Vivian and Verity were still family were they not? Alma learned how to take care of others, to dress wounds and whisper comforting nothings. Her heart was always too big for her body and she would involve herself far too deeply in others. She cared, she cared so much it sometimes felt as if it would destroy her in the end.
Perhaps it did, in the end. Alma had fallen in love, married and had children of her own by the time they were on the outskirts of a town they had good word on that an attack would take place there. Unfortunately a group of vampires had gotten riled up over the idea of the Vandevieres coming to town and while Alma was trying to help, she was attacked. Instead of dying out there in the field, she found herself awakening once more as the very creature she had spent her life watching destroy cities. Regardless of the relation however Alma was not Vivian, or Verity for that matter. She continued to do her work, she kept her humanity on and her heart remained true. With her emotions amplified, caring for the wounded became emotionally exhausting but she carried on until she had herself under complete control. The healing properties of vampire blood were also a perk she was grateful for, although she was extremely careful with how she used it. Working around so much human blood was also exhausting but she managed. The idea of hurting someone, of killing an innocent person would keep her awake at night, it terrified her so she did all she could to avoid it. Years passed and she watched her family grow and grow until she was holding the aged hands of her children and their childrenâs children as they slipped peacefully away into the next life. No one had ever claimed eternal life was easy but Alma had never realised how lonely it would be.
Life, naturally, went on and so did Alma. She continued her familyâs work and branched out into other areas of medicine and healing. She would find herself nursing in a few wars over the years which was where she would come to meet Jordan Rickman. The two couldnât have been more opposite if they tried. He was a soldier and a vampire, she was a healer and a vampire. They were who they were in the end and it never could have worked out, neither could leave behind the lives theyâd lived for too long, not then. Alma once asked him to leave behind Edward Carrington and the violence he brought along with him but Jordan hadnât been ready, might never have been ready and Alma left. When she became a vampire she learned to accept the hand she had been dealt, she learned to survive and make peace with what she had become. She did everything within her power to stay the person that she had always been, to stay as human as possible. Alma still felt reluctant to ever turn anyone, especially in the beginning. She knew better than most the dark, ugly side of being a vampire âof being a monster. She allowed her family to grow old, to remain human and ultimately leave her behind. She could only watch them as it happened, fighting with her own grief and reminding herself everyday that everyone deserved to make their own choices. She herself had not chosen this life, she would not take that choice away from another person. Still, the loneliness caught up to her and she finally made her way to Havensdale Valley, to find her family.
Additional Information â
Alma was born in 1731 to the illegitimateâas they had said thenâ daughter of Vivian Vandeviere. She was then turned into a vampire in 1755 after a few Vandeviere groupies got out of hand and began attacking innocent people. Almaâs family were not fighters, they were not violent. They knew only peace, kindness and helping those their damned, technical family had harmed.
Ivy OâConner, her father and little brother just so happen to be the last living descendants of the Vandeviere family line from Vivian and Verityâs brother. Itâs a very long shot Alma knows but any family is better than no family. She wants to connect again, connect with her humanâwitch, technicallyâ family once more, if theyâll have her. And if she were to ever come across the Vandevieres again well⊠They have been awfully quiet on the whole massacre front lately, you know?
Being one of the good guys, as a vampire, is never as easy as youâd think but Alma has had plenty of practice. She also has a knack for seeing the good in others, no matter how much they protest. Thatâs why she was drawn towards fellow vampires Annabeth Meyers and Angelina Shields. Both fighters but more protectors than anything else and Alma found an ally in both.
Alma has dedicated her time to various different sorts of volunteer work. If itâs possible for her to help, then sheâs there to help. Discretion is very important to her, especially if sheâs using her supernatural gifts for the greater good. Alma, after all these years, goes out of her way to find the goodness, the humanity in humanity âshe has to. Otherwise sheâs afraid that she might give up entirely.
Of course, despite her innate goodness, Alma still knows how to have fun. It has after all been over two hundred years. Sheâs enjoyed culture, music, fads and fashions. She ran into werewolf Graham Lambert a while back who was very adamant that she indulge in a little fun. She in return sobered him up for a while to enjoy the things that were going on around him in polite company. It was quite the time.
Coming to Havensdale is all about family for Alma. She has heard the rumours about a potential War but that hasnât deterred her. If anything, should it come to that, she would be more than qualified to help. She has family there, she intends to protect them in any way that she can and dearly hopes they can accept her.
