As it says under the blog name space for anything, meaning I’m not tied to one specific fandom. I often get pulled in by Batfam posts. I love Psych and I love to love and hate Gilmore Girls so you may see those from time to time. And I’m also a die hard Yankees fan so you’ll see a lot of them.

Also a lover of Shoot From The Hip. If you don’t know who they are and you like a good laugh I highly recommend looking them up.

Currently into Band of Brothers. Particularly in love with Doc Roe.

I read anything from sci-fi to fantasy to romance (not romantasy, don’t get confused) to suspense to biographies. I’m a sucker for cheesy romcoms and I’m always watching sitcoms.

I write both fanfic and non fanfic. Although the only non fanfic I post publicly is poetry. You can find me on AO3 under SweetPeaToo

according to An Immense World, apparently giant squid eyes are, like, UNREASONABLY large, even for something their size living at those depths. the next largest eyes on earth, blue whale eyes, are less than half the size, and swordfish, who live at similar depths as giant squid and have the largest eyes of any fish, have eyes that could fit inside a giant squid's pupil.

eyes hit serious diminishing returns wrt resource costs vs vision quality as they get bigger, so the question became: what the FUCK do giant (and colossal) squid need to see so badly that they couldn't see with swordfish-sized eyes that's justifying that massive energy cost? that nothing else in the deep ocean needs to see so fucking badly??

turns out the one strength eyes that big really have over much smaller eyes is: seeing large glowing objects in water deeper than 500 meters from an appreciable distance.

sperm whales are the primary predator of giant squid. sperm whales don't glow. BUT! water that deep is full of bioluminescent creatures-- these creatures light up when bumped into. something a sperm whale's size is continuously bumping into those critters, it's just surrounded by a glowing field all the time when it's swimming at those depths, visible from a distance-- if you have the right eyes-- as a massive glowing shape. so basically the only reason to have eyes the size of soccer balls is if you live in the deep ocean and your life depends on having a heads up when a hungry sperm whale lurking around

and also I gotta say, the imagery... the huge lurking threat betrayed only by the ambiguous glowing shape of its movements through the water, is really evocative, if spooky deep-sea games aren't already using that to make things extremely ominous then they should really start

why is it that when luke confronts lorelai about dean not being good enough for rory, citing— very logically — that dean was unstable by deciding to marry lindsay, knowing he was pining for rory, lorelai immediately jumps to his defense, saying he’s “only 19, give him a break” when jess literally came from an abusive single parent home and mouthed off out of fear and anger when he was a literal minor in a new town after being abandoned by his mother and he’s written off as “bad news”. he never did anything half as slimy as dean cheating on his literal wife. i love lorelai but god she’s so dense sometimes 🙄

I will never get over Rory’s view of 300 hours of community service. Bc yeah it had to be done in six months but that’s literally like a part time job if that. Like not even full time. She could treat it like a full time job and be done in three months. And the whole “I can’t do that. I have to get a job” and “it’s basically a full time job in and of itself” and Emily and Richard being outraged about the amount of hours just screams privilege. And just confirms what I already know that Rory has no idea what the real world is even like. She’s worked a few times at the school and that’s it and she has no idea what 300 hours of work actually is. I easily do that or more within two months.

I know it was her first offense and knowing her as the we audience do we can say yeah she’ll probably never do anything like this again, but the judge had literally no reason to believe that.

There's a stat that I never thought I'd see... a batting average of a player while wearing a teammates pants... that's hilarious!! The funniest thing is it's working very well for him. Those pants are huge on him so it's funny to see, but if it works, I'm all for it!! And, Jazz has been using Aaron Judge's bat of late, and I believe that he's gotten his last two home runs with that bat!! Whatever works and this is working very well because Jazz just gave us the lead with that solo shot!!! Aaron's bat is too heavy for Jazz so it's slowed down his swing, and he's no longer swatting at the ball so he's making a solid connection and getting homers!!! I love it!! ❤️⚾️❤️

maybe orpheus always looks back because his very effort to reverse death means that he can't look forward. if he could look forward, he could accept eurydice's death, grieve, and keep moving in life. his refusal to accept her death is looking back. his going down to the underworld, asking hades and persephone for her life, trying to lead her out... it's all 'looking back'. he does nothing for the entire story except look back. orpheus! looks! back! it's his entire thing! the story ends the same way it begins: orpheus looked back.

Internal Monologue on Smiling

And then you smiled and, for a moment, I would have done anything to never see that expression fade.

I couldn‘t help the smile forming on my face when I realized you had been watching me the entire time.

It was an entirely inappropriate moment, but the smile had formed without me even noticing.

Only when my ribs began to ache, I managed to still my laughter and tame it into a wide grin instead.

No matter how hard I tried to act unaffected, I knew my lips were in the process of betraying me.

I smiled at you, and you smiled back at me, and suddenly this entire thing didn’t feel as daunting as it did before.

Even as my face began to ache, it was impossible for me to drop the smile.

Literally the worst! Ik retail workers often have to like ask you if you need help and whatever but there is absolutely no reason to follow me around the store and ask repeatedly if I need help. If I need help I will come find you.

My local mall has a new Ashley furniture and I so desperately wanna go in and look around but I cannot deal with being harassed and followed by the workers. We also have a Maurice’s and I completely refuse to go in there ever again bc I told the woman working there I was fine and she proceeded to follow me in a loop around the store. Honestly couldn’t decide if she thought I might try to steal smth or that I might need help
