How do I deal with the fact that I chose to move from my country where I was comfy and happy with my family and friends to come to Norway and be alone except for having my husband?

Well, at first it seemed a lot easier, I was blinded by the excitement of love and marriage and happily ever after. It didn't seem like it was going to be that complicated....how wrong was I? Very, because even though I'm in love with my husband, it just doesn't substitute your friends. 

Winter comes and it's a shock, it's dark and you are alone. You have your love yes, but it's different to have your girls and your boys to just talk and go out, and bitch about life, talk about silly things, or in my case even speak my own native language.

First year is hard, specially if you are awkward like me in the beginning, I don't know how to start a friendship, or even a conversation sometimes, and at the time i spoke zero norwegian...which does not help. But starting norwegian classes helped a lot and I could meet other people in the same situation as I was and it made me not to feel so alone. 

I haven't kept many of those friendships unfortunately, but I do understand that maybe it was a timely friendship to help us all pass through that difficult initial phase and we didn't really had that much in common once you eliminated the whole "I left my home country to move to Norway and I don't speak norwegian and this weather sucks" kinda of thing....and that's ok.

After two and a half years living here, I'm in a better place now, working and making new friends through my colleagues. It's not easy, but you have to give it a try. It won't substitute what you had before you moved, but you might just be ok.

PS: get a dog too, it works wonders...

who is the makeup expat?

I'm Laura, a Brazilian, currently living in Oslo, Norway.

As the name says, I'm a makeup artist. But i have many other tricks up my sleeve, that you will find out little by little in this blog. 

I'm a very visual person, color are usually what attract me the most. I like it bright, sunny, colorful. And I let it dictates my feelings and moods, but I'm working on that.

Life is not easy when you move over 10.000 km away from home. The feeling you get when you are alone is truly overwhelming, but you live and you learn and you survive, and in the middle of it all you find happiness. 

This is the journey you will take in my blog. I'll tell stories of how I came to be and share thoughts, inspirations, and my daily life.

a revival of sorts.

I decided to revive this blog, but with a new approach. It's no longer a portfolio/random picture posting, but more like a real blog, where I'll share bits of myself and my life as well as my makeup.

I feel like I can offer much more as a person by writing diverse things. If you are interested, you can look at my website for a real look at my portfolio.

This will be a very good experience to me, since I want to learn how to write better and communicate my thoughts in a better way. Bear in mind that nor English nor Norwegian are my mother tongue, so I might make mistakes along the way. I do intend in some point start writing in Norwegian as well, for the sake of better communication with the Norwegian public and for myself.

That said, welcome to my new blog, 2015 version.
