After John died there was a lot of talk about who did what, and who liked who, and “Did the Beatles argue?” and on and on and on. And I was almost buying into this idea that me and John were fighting all the time, but I just remembered it wasn’t true, so I wrote this song. (…) I wanted to make a song where I actually said I love you to John. “Here Today” is that song. It’s quite emotional. It came from a real feeling about him. John's part starts at :32 and ends at 2:06, but before, there is mention of the second and third parts of the original broadcast of Anthology, which yes, there was a time before Anthology.
John just talking a like a normal person about a topic, in this case, American football and how it compares to rugby, and even Howard can't resist asking "the question." It's John's very excited interjection about what was playing when he entered the stadium that's important. It reminds me of Paul interrupting the host of The Big Breakfast to mention that he's trying to get James to have a son and name him Lennon, which, not gonna lie, I thought was a fake quotation. John doesn't have to mention that there was a Beatle's song playing, let alone go out of his way to make sure he says it was "Yesterday," and on top of that, his almost shy turn of his head. He's so unbelievably sweet and cute. That part is at :50. Just a year earlier, Mind Games had come out on which was "I Know (I Know), John's answer to Paul's "Some People Never Know," and contains the lines "Today, I love you more than yesterday. Right now, I love you more right now." Any time John mentions "Yesterday," it's to and for Paul. Walls and Bridges would have been the album that was released, on which are "Bless You," clearly to Paul, and "Beef Jerky," John's response to Paul's "Let Me Roll It." Something happened in 1973 that got JohnandPaul back together, and of course, 1974 was their meeting in L.A, where it's very possible they were together again in the biblical sense. It's also in 1973, I believe, that John is overheard at a gathering of some kind during a fight with Yoko saying, "I wish I was back with Paul."

Like I said in that comment I kinda paraphrased it. but the interview I mentioned is from 2012:
McCartney says touchingly: “There is this period of John which is all pre-Beatles, pre-huge fame, pre-drugs – and it is another John completely – that was always there right until the end. He got much sweeter, too, once he settled in New York. Once he was reunited with Yoko, and they had Sean, he became this sweet personalty again then when he was more comfortable with himself. But the acerbic John is the one we know and love, you know, because he was clever with it, so it was very attractive. But, for me, I have more than a slight affection for the John that I knew then, when we were first writing songs, when we would try and do things the old songwriters had done. I slightly regret the way John's image has formed, and because he died so tragically it has become set in concrete. The acerbic side was there but it was only part of him. He was also such a sweet, lovely man – a really sweet guy. ”
While I was searching for the above quote, I've stumbled upon this other one from 2009
McCartney said: "John was on drugs, wasn't he? This is the trouble with history, with journalism. John said so much crap that he later said he hadn't meant. It's bullshit. We were there. We all enjoyed it. I never really criticised John. I'm not that critical. It's a question of personalities. "John's was more abrasive than mine and that was good for his corner of the square that made up The Beatles. If we'd had two people like that - forget it - I don't think it would have worked. "Whatever bad things John said about me, he would also slip his glasses down to the end of his nose and say, 'I love you.' That's really what I hold on to. That's what I believe. The rest is showing off."
