First Day Hike - 2015 (at Maury River)
Nativity at The Greenbrier. #joytotheweird
Had a good time cycling on the Richmond bike paths. Richmond must be one of the best cities in the world for outdoor activities. The James River is great for floating and fishing and the trails, paths and roads are full of cyclists, runners and walkers. To top it off the Blue Ridge mountains are a one-hour drive west and the Atlantic Ocean is about an hour-and-a-half to the East.
Had a great bike ride around Richmond and along the James River with my son. RVA is a good 'outdoor town'.
“Make a radical change in your lifestyle and begin to boldly do things which you may previously never have thought of doing, or been too hesitant to attempt. So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservation, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun. If you want to get more out of life, you must lose your inclination for monotonous security and adopt a helter-skelter style of life that will at first appear to you to be crazy. But once you become accustomed to such a life you will see its full meaning and its incredible beauty.”

Hobo Hazelnut Macchiato
One of my favorite things to do when I travel abroad is to search for signs that make funny use of the English language. I found this one in Sofia, Bulgaria.
In Bulgaria they use the cyrillic alphabet and 'HOBO' sounds like 'novo' which translates to 'new' in English. But I like the idea of having a Hobo Hazelnut Macchiato at Starbucks. If they steal my idea remember that you first saw it here.
I guess a zero day doesn’t always mean doing absolutely nothing. It does mean no riding, but that leaves plenty of time to take care of other things that need to be done.
Shower, laundry, scrubbing clean our gear, and a trip to Wally World were all in the works today. It felt good to get ourselves as well as our gear clean and situated. Plus, you know it’s time for a shower when you can barely stand to smell your own stench.
We ran into our cycling friends from Washington state in town today, and met three other cyclists that were with them. Looks like we’re all gonna hit the road together tomorrow morning and continue on our way west through Kentucky. Should be fun riding with a new crew.
It’s been just a single day off the bike, but I’m looking forward to hopping back on it and hitting the road. After some much needed rest, it’ll be back on the grind tomorrow!
Great Irish music to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

Another GoPro masterpiece! I love this little guy. :)
I’m in my 50’s and trying to be as active as ever, maybe even more so since I have more control over how I spend my time. This article gives me a lot of hope for the next twenty years or so.
Unbelievable bike skills!
Seriously, take up the banjo!
I heard this nice version of Wayfaring Stranger tonight in the documentary film, The Imposter. It’s by a group called 16 Horsepower.
If you're interested in living simply, you'll enjoy Worn Wear
Presented by Patagonia
Worn Wear is an exploration of quality – in the things we own and the lives we live. This short film takes you to an off-the-grid surf camp in Baja, Mexico; a family’s maple syrup harvest in Contoocook, New Hampshire; an organic farm in Ojai, California; and into the lives of a champion skier, a National Geographic photographer, and a legendary alpinist. Released as an antidote to the Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping frenzy, Worn Wear is an invitation to celebrate the stuff you already own.
