Part 2
Why was this episode so satisfying to experience?
For the love of Kojima.
I mean think about it. They stopped working together after Nightmare Before Christmas. Tim Selfinserton is known for really connecting to his characters; and for Nightmare, Danny insisted on being Jack because he saw so much of himself in him. Considering that Tim kept putting off writing the script (and then ended up not doing it lmao) and for some time the only words on paper were Dannyâs songs, and parts of the film were shot before there even was a script. The fact that Tim wasnât directing and the âscriptâ they were using was Dannyâs (who Tim didnât respect) mustâve been a blow to his ego. Timâs characters are him, he couldnât handle Dannyâs control over Jack who he (Danny) also saw as an extension of himself. You can see that in the film, as Jack isnât the typical Burton protagonist, most notably in the scene where he realizes he was wrong and goes and fixes his mistake instead of whining about how no one gets his art and running away. So they didnât speak for three years because they were doubles of Jack Skellington.
my dad just exploded into laughter out of nowhere and told me âimagine the lion king but with sea lionsâ he has been chuckling about it for 5 straight minutes now
apparently it doesnât matter that iâve told him 10 times itâs the monkey who raises the newborn and not the lion himself, this is the scene he has been imagining
âhe canât raise his kid over his headâ
I want it
okay but have you considered
can we just take a moment to recognise mentally ill people who are high functioning?
the ones that constantly question the validity of their illness(es) because they managed to get out of bed this morning/are keeping up with their classes/can still socially interact? because they can do the things that most neurotypicals can do, even if they find it very difficult?
the ones that are questioned by their loved ones on the existence of their disorders? that face constant ableist remarks of âbut you canât be depressed/ill/manic/psychotic/etc!â âyou donât look mentally ill!â âitâs just hormones!â âoh, have you tried yoga?â âyouâre just on a journey of finding yourself.â âyouâre too happy/too smart to be mentally ill!â
the ones who arenât taken seriously by their therapists/doctors/psychiatrists because of how self aware they are and how well they can articulate their feelings and thoughts?
the ones that, on their bad days, are told that âothers have it worseâ just because they donât outwardly show their symptoms all of the time? the ones that have their pain and their struggles constantly diminished until they donât know what is real and what isnât because of this?
the ones that donât receive the treatments or correct diagnosis in a short matter of time (or at all) because âtheyâre not bad enough?â
the ones that end up suicidal or manic or psychotic in hospital with no warning because their illnesses arenât taken seriously until its too late?
as a high functioning neurodivergent young person suffering from a myriad of different mental health issues, i see you and i hear you and i support you.
The guy who coined the term coined the term, coined the term.
Go watch Black Panther, RIGHT NOW!
I haven't seen such beautiful cinema in a long time.
