The tragic story of Guillaume Le Gentil

Guillaume was a french Astronomer born in 1725, he was part of an international project to measure the distance of the sun by observing the transit of Venus from different parts of the earth by many people and then comparing their measurements, Then he left Paris, France and set course for Pondicherry, India, Unfortunately a storm set him of course and he had to spend the day of the event in a boat at sea which moved to much for measurements to be made, the next transit would happen in 8 years, Then he decided to not return to Paris, so he built an observatory and waited, when he finally returned to Paris he was already declared dead in absentia.

His wife had remarried, His family had token his belongings and his position in the royal academy of sciences had been given to someone else.

He never did see the transit after waiting 8 more years, the day of the event the sky was overcast

How pearls are formed

The treasure of the Sea, widely known as pearls,  are primarily used for jewelry, but they've been used by many cultures in the past for other purposes, they've been used to decorate lavish clothes, crushed pearls have been used in cosmetics,medicines, and paint formulations.

The process of the making of the pearl is as following:

1. Oysters feed on plankton by essentially breathing, filtering out the water, Occasionally a Parasite manages to get inside the shell

2. The oyster then uses a defense mechanism, the mantle of the oyster then forms spherical layers of calcium carbonate in the form of mineral aragonite  around the parasite.

3. It keeps encasing the parasite with the substance also known as nacre,layer after layer, forming what we know is a pearl.

Fun fact: Sea of Cortez pearls are the rarest kind of pearl, producing only 0.004 tonnes annually

Here are a few landscape photos i would like to share,

In order: Grüner Sea,Tragöss, Austria. A lake near the town of Tragöss, In winter it is around 1-2 meters deep, then due to the rising of temperature in spring, the snow and ice on the mountain tops around it begin to melt making the lake 12 meters deep, engulfing a park near it, thus a scuba diving site is born.
