Thanks to the corona virus and all the quarantines, I just picked up Crescent City and didn’t put it down for 2 days straight.
And damn, I have questions and theories.

Like everyone, I also learned my lessons about SJM with ToG and ACOTAR. That being said, I was worried we would end up in a Tamlin/Dorian/Chaol situation this time, but I strongly believe this time, Hunt is different. Yes, I hated him on the ship, but at the end and up until that point I felt like he’s a good match to Bryce. It’s something I never felt with Chaol or Tamlin (but that’s just my opinion). But there was one line —or two, if I wanna be honest- where it just clicked and I had no questions about it.
We know SJM at this point. We know how the mating bond works, how this all plays out.
And then Fury just stated the f*ckin’ obvious along the line of “then why is his smell on you” and Bryce just shakes it off by living with him, but isn’t that just how it was with Rowan and Aelin? Their bond formed by living together, sharing the same place. It could be the same with Bryce and Hunt.
(The other clue was when Hunt said he’s been waiting for Bryce since he was born. It’s pretty obvious, isn’t it?)
Obviously SJM is building toward a bigger picture with her series, repeating the same tropes and all, but I think, with Crescent City, she just pulled a Pavlov on us and just dumped Hunt in our face from the start. (well… sort of.)
Now, let’s go back a bit to Connor.. he wasn’t allowed by Danika to ask Bryce out for whatever reason and even Bryce was reluctant about it. I think if anything, Connor is Sam. Aelin loved Sam as Bryce loved Connor, but that was just that. Kind of mates, but not really. And I don’t think it would have worked out with Connor anyway. The whole arc of Bryce is about her being the alpha of her life and how she needs to learn not to bite of the head of any male who tries to takes care of her. She sees the guys as a threat to her control and power over herself and she needs to learn that it is okay to let (and want/need) someone to be there. And Hunt is that person. I think Connor would have fuck it up at some point with her and it would have fuck up the whole dynamic with Danika and the Pack as well.
And why are we want to take away the fact that Hunt and Bryce feels home with the other. I mean, really.. I know it’s SJM and we should never trust her, but I think, this time this is her big move. Give us the endgame right from the start until we wait around nervously for the worst (?) to happen.
Hunt and Bryce are a good pair. They both have flaws, they both fuck up BIG TIME, yet they manage to come back to each other. It actually sounds like Feyre and Rhys to me. And I’m down for it.
Aidas is weird. His whole character and relationship with Bryce is weird. Especially with the epilogue in mind. He knows a hell of a lot more than we do just yet. I feel like he kept an eye on Bryce for his plans. I don’t think he’s a real love interest of Bryce or ever going to be. She knew him since she was a child and I don’t see Bryce as a kind of girl who would develop feelings from that situation.
I think he will have a more important role in Hunt’s story than Bryce’s. After all, he knows who his father is and he thinks he would be proud of Hunt. Whatever that means.. at this point, it could go both ways.
“Make the drop and find me so we can finish this.”
I was sure while the gates were open that Bryce would just find a way to Aidas. But now, especially with the epilogue, we know that he has a connection to Bryce’s light. And that puts the previous line in a different perspective, for me at least.
Yeah, I think he is Valg, yeah I think there is an evil/cruel part of him thanks to what he is, but when he said “it is still a song in my blood” it’s kind of like he’s salty about Theia’s death.
My guesses for the next books is that we will figure out by who and why the Queen was killed and they Bryce, Hunt, Ruhn and the whole gang will simply raise hell on the Asteri. I’m sure they will crush down the Republic, form a new order (with Bryce and Hunt being the power couple —she’s a Princess, now with more power than her father, and Hunt already being a powerful force in their world) and live happily ever after. Since Aidas knows the truth about a looooot of things, I guess they will end up seek his help anyway. And I get the feeling he’s more like the Suriel in this series. A dreamer among the nightmares.
Hunt’s dad is probably some royalty or powerful someone, probably someone close to Aidas. Guess Aidas will just turn on his own while having his vengeance for Theia’s death.
So yeah, I do believe Bryce and Hunt are endgame. All clues point to that at this point. And it doesn’t seem like a Tamlin/Dorian/Chaol thing.
None of them could ever completely embrace the girl they’ve been with. Hunt did. Just like Rowan and Rhysand. They both challenge their mates, yet they are supportive and protective of them. Just like Hunt. He never run from Bryce, only been turned on even more by her badass side.
What are your opinions about it? I’m curious, maybe we can crack the code for SJM this time :D
P.s.: I just remembered SJM say somewhere that she wanted Bryce to end up with someone else, but then Hunt showed up and that was that. I remember how she said they were endgame, so I just hope she sticks with it cuz I’m a trash for them.
