Friendly reminder to white LGBTQA people
You being LGBTQA does not make you any less white than straight white people
That means you can be as racist towards people of color as straight white people
That means you benefit from white privilege as much as straight white people
That means gay men do not have a “sassy black girl” inside them
That means that you should not appropriate the culture of people of color
That means that you can still fetishize people of color and reduce them to an object for your sexual pleasure
Being LGBTQA and being oppressed for it does not warranty that you would have remotely any idea about the oppression faced by POC for being POC
That means you need to stop speaking over LGBTQA people of color
That means that you have to realize that the homophobia/transphobia/biphobia/aphobia faced by LGBTQA people is often racialized.
That means you have to be more intersectional about your LGBTQA activism.
That means that you have to stop speaking over and about LGBTQA people of color

it’s annoying when people talk about how representation has gone “too far” and their argument is like “what’s next?? a trans schizophrenic immigrant lesbian?? an adhd bipolar physically disabled bisexual?? a japanese-american ocd nonbinary asexual??” and it’s just like. all those people exist. i’ve met all three of those people–one of those descriptions is of me!–and the fact that it’s ~pandering~ to have characters like that really proves that you can only be marginalized one way at a time before people start calling it ‘excessive’. who i am isn’t too much for representation! if seeing a disabled person, a mentally ill person, an lgbt person, a person of color—or, yes, ALL OF THOSE THINGS DESCRIBING THE SAME PERSON— is REALLY enough to bring you out of the story, that sounds like a you problem. because those people exist in real life, and we should exist in fiction too.
