WE DIDN'T START THE FIRE, ACT I — they say before you start a war you better know what you're fighting for

Brandon receives the letter under his door. Short. Straight to the point. No sender. Not signed. Only a few words. Try to leave the country alive and you are next. He doesn’t need any other explanation. He knows exactly what it means. Night is falling on Florida. It will be dark soon. He has to move or he will be dead for real. The television on the other end of his living room is still going. He only hears the faint voice of the announcer. He didn’t want to show that there was someone in there. It is, however, loud enough to hear what it says. “The NHL is no longer existing as we speak. After the tournament that happens just a week ago, the NHL executives are said to be dead. The US have dismantled the only sports league that allowed Outsiders to play with a permit...” From this moment, Brandon’s mind blacks out. He knows he is next. He doesn’t think about anything. He knew it was going to happen: it was just a question of when it was going to happen.

WE DIDN’T START THE FIRE, ACT II — someone's out there, sending out flares

When Sasha passes him at first, he thinks that he is hallucinating or that he is confusing the guy with another one, you know? Which wouldn’t be surprising since they have been on the road for many days straight and they never encountered another player. But he stops. He has to. When they all get out the car under the snow falling down the road, Sasha has many questions. What is Gabriel Landeskog doing in the middle of Florida, with only a boxer and nothing else? And as he studies him, he sees the scars telling a story for themselves.

WE DIDN’T START THE FIRE, ACT III — a thousand days and the sun won't shine before I come back to you

Mike isn’t happy at all when he sees the final list of the players that will attend that stupid 4 nations tournament. He is mad. His blood is boiling in his body. He cannot fathom the fact that Jeff is going to be thrown to the wolves like this. Because that is what it really is. Ever since that fucking tournament was announced, it has been nothing but bad news. And now that the lineup for the 4 countries has now been revealed, Mike isn’t reassured at all. And that he literally can’t do anything. He wants to scream, run to the goddamn States if he has to. Everything to get Jeff the hell out of this entire mess.
