A long time ago, before I put on this mask, I was afraid of e v e r y t h i n g.

her brow rose at the womans words. she gave a simple nod before closing the book in her lap. she found her first statement to be a little odd, but it shouldn’t have been too surprising. she gave her a light smile, at the compliment though. “thank you. yours is nice as well. that lip color looks great on your skin tone.”

selina welcomed herself to the seat at the table across from the dark haired woman, obviously keen on continuing the conversation. selina kyle was a very big advocate for felines yes, but another thing she was big on was beauty in all it’s forms. “doesn’t it?” she grinned, leaning forward eagerly. “i love your red. who’s it by?” she inquired.

“Oh please I’m not stealing anything. That line is so cliche,Kitty Cat.” She mocked at the other with a simply smile gracing her lips. “And?” She raised an eyebrow wanting to know about her mother. “If I could have recorded it I would. Let’s face it–I’m cute. Of course he did and I did ask. I just didn’t think he do it. Guess he really did love me to death.” She giggled. “Get it? To death? He died.”  

selina rolled her eyes, not obvious to the blonde mocking her, but hardly angered or annoyed by it, either. she had the same charm and attitude as harley, if only just downplayed a bit, and it was hard not to like her when she was fond of her mother. “and, she’s here.” the brunette stated simply, if only to push the other’s buttons. “i’m impressed.” she then said, looking back down to appraise the body at their feet. “maybe i should seduce someone to the point that they would kill themselves for me.” she mused, before snorting loudly. “bet bruce would love that.” she muttered.

ava’s gaze flew along the pages of the small book that sat in her lap. it was always a go to, for the gal, and always helped her calm down after a stressful situation. the small cafe was hardly populated at this time of day. most people were inside, at home. as she continued to read though, she felt a pair of eyes on her back, a feeling that lasted a little too long. closing the book with a sigh, ava’s body turned to face the stranger. “can i help you with something?”

selina didn’t even bat an eyelash. “down, kitty. i was just hoping you would turn around so i could see what your front looked like.” she responded, as if it were the most simplest and normal thing in the world. “i love your makeup.” she continued.

   “Do I look like someone who would know what to do with a body?” She actually did know what to do with it but she was just too lazy to even do it. “Just leave him there. Or we can do something fun like dress him up as a girl and put make up on? Or just make up. Hey– did you found out where my mom was, kitty cat?” 

“okay, lover boy stays here.” selina agreed, crossing her arms over her chest. she honestly didn’t care enough to get rid of the body, so she was just fine with allowing it to decay until some unfortunate soul came across it. “first off all, don’t steal my line.” the brunette began, looking pointedly at the blonde, amusement on her features. “and yes i have.” she continued in response, before pausing. “did he really do this just because you asked him too?” she inquired, eyebrows raised high as she peered between the female and the body.

Strange people seemed common enough; Oliver tuned out the rest of the party at the bar, all the chatter and excitement about the new year, and focused on the man in the top hat. He seemed as though he had walked out of Penguin’s fanclub, the way he sort of wobbled and looked around suspiciously, clearly giving out a red flag for his off nature. Any hero or vigilante alike would follow him just to see what he was up to, and maybe that was the entire point. Oliver couldn’t imagine that the villains in New Gotham had already spotted him without the mask…it was just this one night. But maybe he was wrong.

Oliver cursed at himself for being vulnerable. When the top hat man turned, Oliver snuck a different direction, hoping to cut him off in the next hallway. He passed several people having fun in special Gotham ways and brushed passed them. Even behind the scenes, the building had charm to the more privileged of Gotham. At the next turn, Oliver peered down the hall, but saw nothing.

“Where are you…” 

Thinking that the odd man wobbled into one of the rooms, Oliver stepped to the first one and listened for movement. 

selina had never been above following people; god knows she did it with bruce enough by now that he most definitely expected it. her cat like senses and reflexes made it incredibly easy to slink through the shadows, remaining completely undetected by those who she wished to remain hidden from. she wasn’t necessarily hiding from oliver, but she also knew that if he spotted her early on, he would put up a fuss like all men did. it was tiring, really. 

when oliver diverted, selina continued on. she was a lot better at not acting suspicious than her companion seemed to be, and didn’t feel the need to backtrack just because the person they were following had turned around. 

“he’s in the third one, in case you’re wondering.” selina spoke up from behind oliver, having found him after watching the man disappear into one of the rooms. she already had a plan, obviously, but had decided to waste a little time in toying with her companion. “now, why don’t you run along and let the adults handle this?” she cooed, smirking coyly up at the male. she wasn’t sure what this was, but a suspicious appearance was good enough for catwoman.

“Then we won’t have a problem,” Jessica replied serenely, unperturbed by Selina’s tone. “C'mon,” she gestured, “are we getting a drink or are we just gonna talk about it all night?”

selina couldn’t quite decide if she tolerated the girl, liked her, or just genuinely wanted to claw her eyes out. “c’mon.” she echoed, walking past the girl in the direction of her most frequented bar.

“Trust me, you don’t have to explain bad neighborhoods to me,” Jessica snapped back, vaugely affronted. “Whatever. Just don’t drug my drink or anything. It won’t work, and then we’ll have a problem.”

“cool it, sweetheart.” selina rolled her eyes in vague annoyance, though hardly bothered by the other’s attitude. “i wouldn’t drug your drink.” she then snapped, narrowing her eyes into a slight glare. “honestly, i beat up men who drug women’s drinks, i wouldn’t do it.”

“Drinking with strangers? Sounds like a great idea,” she let out a sharp, barking laugh. “But why not? Sure, let’s do it.”

“darling, i can assure you that there are worse things that could happen ‘round here than someone asking to join you for a drink.” selina retorted with a scoff of laughter.

Jessica shoved her shaking hands deep into her worn leather jacket, trying her hardest to conceal the only visible sign of her distress. She knew her situation was fucked up when the best possible scenario explanation was alternate universe. Every bone in her body screamed mind game– and Jessica Jones was done with mind games. “What is this, a dry fucking county?” She muttered under her breath, searching desperately for the nearest divey bar. She couldn’t face this sober.

selina gave a laugh upon hearing the mutterings of the female walking near her. “oh, not at all.” she replied. “as it just so happens, i was just on my way for a drink myself. care to join me, kitty cat?”

   “How cute…  You know this isn’t my fault. I didn’t think he’d actually do it.” She looked at the dead body before her. “You can survive without a spleen. . He just cut it out all wrong. Lost too much blood. .It’s funny if you think about it” She snorted. 

selina knew the blonde was a little... off, if that was the word for it. but lucy took perfectly after her parents, and selina should have expected most things that came out of her mouth. “right.” the brunette finally said with a slow nod of her head. “okay.” she exhaled, looking down at the body. “so what do you suggest we do with him? toss him in the river? bury him?”

“or you can just blame common courtesy.” selina retorted with her nose scrunched up.

“i share the sentiment with you. there’s nothing quite like gotham–” he stopped himself once he remembered they were no longer at home, not exactly. that made his smile dim down just a notch. “there’s nothing like the night.”

“if you ask me, this is just gotham 2.0.” catwoman stated nonchalantly, noticing the male falter slightly.

“Fair enough,” he shrugged. Oliver glanced back at black trenchcoat guy and noticed he was on the move. It seemed strange to be wearing that attire in a place like this…it might not have been a classic Queen ball like back home in Star City but at least everyone in the bar looked nice, dressed up. Instincts from the island were difficult to control, or shove down in the darker pits of his mind. Oliver had an itch he needed to scratch when it came to protecting people (even if they weren’t his people, his city…)

He set the drink on the counter and placed a hand on Selina’s arm, leaning in slightly. “I’ll be right back,” he said quietly and casually, as if they had been acquainted several times before and this was just a simple social call. Oliver stepped away from the comfortable company and followed the man towards a back room.

He couldn’t let it go…and he didn’t need her help, or anyone else’s for that matter….

selina wasn’t obvious to his distracted manner, but chose to ignore it after deciding it didn’t concern her. besides, she hadn’t come out to mingle with another billionaire, she had come out to treat herself. so, she left him to do whatever it was he was mulling so hard over while she finished off her very expensive drink, pondering when she would strike first. 

startling only slightly at the touch on her arm, she glanced at the male with arched eyebrows, eyeing him intently as he leaned in to speak into her ear. she couldn’t deny she was surprised at his casual gesture, having expected less from him, but she didn’t give it too much thought. 

she watched him walk away, unable to deny the feeling that he was about to do something a little out of character for oliver queen, and more in character for the green arrow. pursing her lips, her fingers tightened in the faintest around her glass as she pondered between letting him do whatever he was going to, or getting herself involved. growling low in her throat when she realized she already knew the answer, she downed the rest of her drink and followed the path he had made.

“what? you don’t enjoy seeing people’s tongues down someone else’s throat?” selina dryly inquired, her tone showing that she wasn’t amused either.

“well, we can’t exactly deny this gotham is peaceful and quiet.” catwoman pointed out, noticing the male’s pause. “not anymore, anyways.”

He slowly approached her, his hands ready to grab anything from his utility built should she make any sudden movements against him. Selina’s M.O. was often stealing, but information wasn’t necessarily something she wouldn’t break and enter for. 

“You were trying to get my attention.” he said gruffly, trying to get to the point. 

selina hardly paid the looming figure any attention as he slowly approached, more concerned with what her eyes were taking in as she went from screen to screen on the computer in front of her. 

“actually, i wasn’t.” the female said pointedly, lifting her head up to smirk at him. “it’s not my fault you’re attracted to trouble.” she said nonchalantly. “but i do always enjoy a little game of cat and mouse.” she continued, her lips pulling into a predatory like grin. sensing she would be at the computer a while, she pulled back the seat and plopped herself into it, continuing her scanning while partially pretending like the bat wasn’t there.

“You’re sweeter than anyone gives you credit for,” she grinned, chuckling. She had to respect someone doing right by what they believed in. Refusing to scoop up a few cats because they had owners wasn’t nearly as crazy as some of the things Pamela had pulled. “But it’s good there’s a few that know where they can find a good place.” She sat up, now they were closer to talking about business. “Where are you staying in this new place? You’ll have some by tomorrow.”

selina rolled her eyes good-naturedly and gave the redhead a sarcastic smile. people could call her what they’d like, think of her what’d they’d like, and she could even be as she was, but she would never tear away someone from their cat. now, some felines were willing to help without becoming her faithful companion, and that was a whole other story; that’s where the catnip would come in. she wanted to reward her little feline’s for the deeds they carried out for her. as pamela sat up, selina reluctantly followed after, having gotten quite comfortable laying in the grass, but knowing it was time to get serious. “i found myself a nice big apartment, courtesy of the rich old fart who was too scared of me to oppose.” selina purred, smirking wickedly at her friend. “you could always stay with me, if you don’t have somewhere. the view is fantastic, and so is the jacuzzi tub. besides, there’s a nice little balcony for your plants.”
