Jay came back to Landon.

"Maybe we should just unchain him? I hate seeing him like this, Landon."

"I understand, but you know this is how we're protecting him. He might do something he'll regret when he regains control. Let's just wait for the moon to set."

Jay approached Leo, trying to comfort him. The moon hadn't set yet.

"Is this really necessary?"

"It's your first time. We need to be sure you're safe. Next time will be easier, I promise. You'll have more control over yourself."

"I just want it all to be over."

"I know, Leo, but the worst is still coming."

Today is a full moon, and Leo finally gets to transform for the first time in his life. After much discussion, Jay and Landon decided to chain him up for his safety. They didn't want him to accidentally hurt anyone.

"Do you see the vision?"

A subtle smile appeared on Leo's face, which made Jay smile, too.

"I know this isn't sustainable, and as a werewolf, you'll have to deal with a lot of difficult situations. But if it's possible, remember that you always have the power to control yourself."

"Thank you."

Leo wasn't saying anything. Even though part of him wasn't sure he believed Jay's words, he didn't want to ruin the moment. He decided to listen to his brother.

"And then," Jay continued, "I just let go."

"Whenever my emotions start to overflow, I let them out using my body, not with words," Jay said, clenching his fist. For a moment, Leo thought Jay was talking about violence. But Jay quickly clarified. "I take a deep breath, too. I like to think the air helps clear out the bad stuff."

"I understand, and I don't want to bother you."

"Before you say anything, I'm not interested in talking about the whole transformation thing either."

"Can I just show you something? It's a silly little thing that helps me a little whenever I feel like I'm losing control."

"Go ahead, I guess..."

"What? No," Leo replied after a second, confused — maybe even a little annoyed — completely missing the intention.

"How's it going?"

Silence.

"Leo...?"

"What? You know how I'm feeling, so why are you even asking? Look, I'm sorry, but I'm not the right fit for a conversation buddy right now."

Lately, Leo's heightened emotions have made it hard for him to relax or focus on anything. Jay found him sitting on the porch, looking completely lost in thought.

"Is this seat taken?" Jay asked his brother, hoping to break the ice with a slight dose of humour.

Leo sat there for a moment in complete silence. Then he heard the sound of paws tapping on the hardwood floor. It was Bisou. The dog had been with them for quite some time now, and Leo had grown close to him.

"I should've just done this," he said, smiling softly, wrapping Bisou in a warm hug.

As he was writing, his pen suddenly broke, which was like adding fuel to the flames.

"Fuck! Why does everything I touch have to break? I knew this whole writing your thoughts down thing was a stupid idea."

"I hope nobody ever finds this," he said to himself as he kept writing.

"I really need to be done with this first transformation or I'll just lose it. They all say it gets easier after your first turn, but I'm not sure I believe it. I'm just scared exhausted."

"I haven't written anything in ages, because it sucks I've lost interest. But Aunt Dorothea told me that writing could help me with my emotions, so here I am. At first I laughed it off, but I don't know. I'm just tired of this burning feeling inside me. I guess it wouldn't hurt to try."
