My relationship with food is quite a complicated one. In my lifetime, I've felt both great love and hatred for it.

When I was much younger, I was such a slow eater. My lack of speed meant I would usually be the one left at the dining table for every meal and honestly it's quite lonely.

As I got older I had a much bigger appetite and I've come to understand the art of making food. I fell in love with it so much. It made me respect every little step of it and every little ingredient it takes to make a dish.

In a way, I feel like understanding the process behind each food I am presented helps me appreciate it more. Now of course, as I became a home cook, I would go through some phases of experimentation with some things that I make, eventually my relationship with food has become too good.

It affected my health and it took a terrible turn for the worse. I started putting on more and more weight that made me incredibly unhealthy physically and mentally.

It took me a few years to realise just how unhealthy I was becoming, and when I did, I worked hard to reset how I feed myself. I was so focused on seeing the results that at some point in my journey I explored the unhealthy methods as well.

Now, I'm still learning and trying to build better habits. I still want believe that it's possible to have as much love for food as I have but still have a healthy relationship with it.

I have an awful temper.

I always apologise for it but I feel like it’s not always good enough. The damage was already done even if I do try to patch it up. 

I hate that I’m reckless and impulsive when it comes to acting on my feelings. I don’t really have any valid reasons nor excuses for myself. 

That’s why I want to isolate myself, from everyone.I knew the best how words could sting and when my mind goes blank while upset I could use them as my weapon.

I hate the man in my basement - 2020

TRAILER HERE!

IT HAS BEEN A WHILE! Since everyone has been in quarantine maybe it's the right timing to comeback with the movie suggestions.

I don't think there’s much 'suspense' for this movie, the title says it all. But I do think that what you would find surprising here is the dynamic between the two main characters: Claude and Logan.

In the film you would see Logan's character shift from resistant to repentant. Claude is exploring the new possibilities presented to him after he kept to himself for so long. He tries to find new love and his office mate surely was willing to help him out.

Would you date someone who has a man locked up in their basement? Would you call the police on them? Would you turn a blind eye? There are so many questions that comes to mind as you watch this movie, and for some people, it's so black and white, it's so obvious. But just think really deeply, and be honest with yourself.

Do you think you'd be capable of keeping a man in your basement? And do you think someone who keeps a man in their basement is capable of even feeling a hint of concern for that man’s well-being?

I can't say much more without giving away all the specifics of the movie, but I hope I made you curious enough about it. ;)

From Straight A’s to XXX (2017)

Have you ever joked about just giving up in school and live your life as a stripper, get a sugar daddy, or selling nude photos/homemade pornography? Well here’s a story of a girl who turned her joke into reality. 

College is expensive and these days kids don’t want to have to pay for their student loans for the rest of their lives. I think this movie represents a lot of kids who are conflicted on whether going to college is even worth it or not. 

There are a lot of young, brilliant minds who don’t actually get to attend school because of financial problems. And some of them, like Miriam, builds a desire strong enough to do anything to attend their dream university. 

While I think she didn’t give her decision much thought, I can also see where she’s coming from. Life is difficult these days, and the people needing to work while going to school are getting younger and younger. 

But the beauty in this movie is that while the first part of her college life has been rocky, eventually she realized that she was better at other things as well. Although the movie doesn’t really show that she’s built up her broken relationships with other people once again, but that’s life, people need to heal, and broken relationships are difficult to bring back to life. So I guess that’s another thing to like about it, that even though the protagonist finally made her way back on the right track, it’s not like some kid’s fairy tale that magically fixes everything.

To everyone financially struggling right now, this movie feels for you.

The Justice System (2018)

Here’s to all the Black people who will see this post. 

Wow, what a movie, I wish I was able to get the copy with subtitles on it so it didn't have to take me so long to finish it.  But needless to say, it's worth it to sit through it. Why? Because it actually has a meaningful message, it's not a movie for "Netflix and Chill" y’know what I'm saying?

As a person who lives outside the United States, I have a very vague understanding of how racism is in the community. Let alone the justice system. It might seem quite naive but I think this movie might have just given me a closer look at how things are. A much clearer perspective.

What I enjoyed the most about this movie is how it shows that no matter how intact someone's morals are, with the right circumstances to push them to edge and they will be at least tempted to do something they normally wouldn't do.

Also that, a person who becomes able to do something horrible just gets consumed by their actions so much that they start doing more after each act. It becomes easier and easier to pull the trigger.

Another lesson to learn from this movie is that, revenge is never good for a man. While the justice system is flawed and you might not always get the outcome you expect, once you get blood on your hands you will no longer be the victim. Of course it's always easier said than done, there will be a lot of times when life would be unfair, it would beat you and kick you, and tear you to pieces. But the only chance you have for justice is if you remain on the right side of things.

One way or another, justice will be served.

Adam (2009)

I am very delighted to share about this movie, and even thought it’s already had it’s spotlight back in 2009, it should still be relevant to this day.

The movie is all about Adam, an electronic engineer who has an autism disorder called Asperger’s syndrome. In the beginning of the movie you would see that he has just recently lost his father and for the first time in his life, he had to cater to all of his daily needs by himself. 

A woman named Beth moves in at his apartment complex, at the unit right above his and after meeting her, they immediately develop this curiosity about each other. 

But the thing with Asperger’s syndrome is that they have a lot of socialization troubles, and of course you will be able to see some examples in the movie. So at first, Beth is having troubles on whether she would want to hope for things to develop romantically between the two of them, because she didn’t think she was ready to have such great responsibility in a relationship.

And she was not. But they still started a relationship anyways.

Now as soon as things started getting complicated for Adam, because now he has to take care of all the adult stuff that his father used to take care of... Beth’s father gets into some trouble against the law which now puts them in a situation where it feels like life is out to get you.

But still, they pushed through it, they knew that they have to support each other to get through it together and come out stronger. Besides, they had life issues, they didn’t have issues with each other. 

However, Beth at one point really wanted to introduce Adam to her parents, but knowing Adam, he’s always tried to avoid any new company because of his illness. So Beth devices this whole plan with her father, to “accidentally” meet them at a theater that they were going to that night as a couple. Adam was of course made to believe that it was all just her parents being persistent. 

Eventually he finds out about the lie and he throws a massive fit making Beth feel like it wasn’t even his Asperger’s that’s making him do it, but rather that he was just being a child. 

As the movie progresses, Beth starts to question whether Adam even loves or if he just needs her to stay by his side to help him the way his father helped him all his life. So they ended up parting ways. 

i watched this movie with my boyfriend for Valentine’s Day and it really hit close to home for him because he has mild autism. And most of the time he would say that I’ve been really patient towards him even though sometimes he does or say things a certain way because of his mild autism. And for me, I just see him as the person who was made for me to be with forever so I don’t even notice anything that he does that bothers me. 

The reason why I think this is very important is because this movie shows you the consequences of dating someone who’s not in the best place mentally and it makes you ask yourself, am I really ready? 

Because relationships are all about being there for each other but what happens when you partner can’t give as much as you can? 

And that would always be a relevant question to ask.

Bad Genius (2017) **SPOILER ALERT**

OOOOFFF LET ME TELLY Y'ALL SOMETHING

Watching this film has by far been the most anxious I've ever been over something that's not a horror/thriller movie. It's guaranteed to make you squirm in your seat scene after scene.

Alright, so let's get to the juicy bits shall we? >:D

The movie starts with Lynn, a very exemplary student. Her father wishes to transfer her to a new school for 10th grade. But Lynn didn't like the idea of her father paying so much money for her to go to the new school compared to the school that she was already attending. But after laying out the facts to the headmistress of the school, she got a generous offer to "study for free" and with lunch money as well. All is well for Lynn, she's been a very good student. She knew that she can confidently maintain her scholarship.

She makes her very first friend Grace and unlike her, Grace is a much more inclined in extracurricular activities than in academics. At one point, while they're in the library, Grace tells Lynn about how she wouldn't be able to participate in the school play if her GPA doesn't improve and how her Math scores always drag her GPA down. Naturally, after seeing her friend struggling, she offers to tutor her for the upcoming Math exam.

Now nothing seems to be going wrong so far right? WELLLL here is where it goes down the drain...

By the time the exam day rolls around, Lynn notices that the material to review is exactly the same as the actual exam! Lucky right? Wellll not quite. Despite being EXACTLY THE SAME, Grace is still unable to answer the exam. She already forgot the answers to the reviewer. Now Lynn at the end of it felt really bad for her friend because she wouldn't be able to pursue acting. So what did she do about it? SHE WRITES HER ENTIRE ANSWER SHEET ON HER ERASER, TAKES HER RIGHT SHOE OFF AND DROPS THE ERASER INSIDE. AND THEN PASSES IT TO GRACE.

In all honesty, I have collaboratively cheated with a lot of classmates before. It's not my shining moment I'll tell you that. I do believe that if only they stopped there and let it be a one-time thing they would've gotten away with it just fine. BUT NOPE! Because Grace's boyfriend Pat knew about it and wanted to get in on it too. He offers to pay $95 per subject and it wouldn't just be him, he also has 6 other friends who are guaranteed to be interested. He says that it would be much cheaper to pay her that amount than to get tutors and as for her, she gets to earn $7,440 PER SEMESTER (suddenly we all want to steal her brain LOL) but Lynn wasn't fazed. She pointed out that she doesn't have to worry about saving money because she's already studying for free. But the ice cold truth slithers down her spine as Pat reveals that students in that school don't just pay the tuition fee, they also had to pay the school's "tea money" and apparently the less academically inclined the student, the more they have to pay the school.

She still doesn't give them an absolute answer. But what changes her mind is when she finds out that her father still had to pay the school over $6,000 for "maintenance fees" when the main reason she hesitated to enroll was the expenses that she foresaw.

Long story short she figure out a way to help the students cheat during their exams. And she got paid for "piano lessons" which is basically the sessions they have in order to memorize her way of giving them the answer. Then eventually her friend Grace asks her for a much bigger "favor" with a much bigger payment. But this time, it's not just her, another "genius" joins them. Bank, who's had the highest integrity as a student is helping them to ace the STIC exam. His price? 1,000,000 Baht ($ 31,795)

Lynn was able to convince the most honest student she knows to do this with her and eventually she would feel bad for having corrupted him. But in the end, they go through with it.

Now I’m going to end my synopsis of the movie here and let you know the ending for yourself. But personally, I believe that one of the lessons to take home from this film is that, no matter how deep you are in the mess that you’ve gotten yourself into, there will always be a way to turn things around. In the end, everything will still be up to you, you just have to choose to make the right decision.

Perfect Blue (1997)

I believe that everything in this film is what most women fear. At least I know I do.

This film is about a pop-idol turned actress named Mima-rin. As you know, pop idols don’t have it as easy as we all used to think. They have a very fixed image to maintain and they receive a lot of backlash from their “fans” from all the scandals that they get involved in.

As Mima-rin transitioned from being a pop-idol to being an actress, there was one person who really wasn’t happy about it. She started receiving hate mail, and people that worked with her as an actress started getting hurt and mostly murdered.

Like I said in one of my posts, sometimes its not the creepy looking people who have twisted minds, sometimes the people who can harm us the most can be the ones who are closest to us.

What’s scary about that is, they know almost everything about you. From what brand of milk you buy to which foot you use first to step out of the train and the bath. 

As a woman in my early 20′s who lives alone, I’ve experienced some bad encounter with people. Some men have attempted to wait outside the place where I work a couple of times, and when I leave really early for school I’ve experienced being followed from my street by a complete stranger.

At times like this, this film made me realize that you should never question your sanity no matter how much all the creepy things that are happening to you don’t make any sense. And never think twice about talking to the authorities about it. Even if nothing ends up happening to you, what if your hunch was right and that person just thought you’re already too aware of their intentions? They would leave you alone but you don’t know if that’s the end of it or if they would just move to a different target.

Be careful out there ladies.

Now let's get to the important points of this post. Why did I like this film?

Well, I have to be honest, at first I only decided to watch it because I thought it would be only be surrounding sex and one-night stands and I find myself attracted to such themes apparently. But what's really unique about this film is that for the majority of the film, they only had one setting---Sydney's bed.

What's so incredible about that you ask? Well because the visuals are so simple, you actually get to really absorb what the characters are talking about. I honestly wish that I watched this with my boyfriend this coming Valentine's Day. It shows you a big chunk of what relationships/hook ups actually are, not the Hollywood crap.

The generation we're in, people can be so delusional about their expectations about love. Emotions get so exaggerated. And I admit, I was one of those people. But as I grow older, my perspective slowly changes. But why do we have to go through so many heartbreaks to get this wisdom? That's the beauty of this film, now you can learn a lot from this film so that you won't have to go through it yourself. And that's beautiful.

A Simple Favor (2018)

Honestly, if you haven’t seen this movie yet, you’re really missing out.

I actually saw this movie for the first time in the theaters, we just came home from a vacation to Palawan and I told my boyfriend that I really wanted to see this movie. I’ve never been so eager to see a movie in the theaters in my life. We hopped from one mall to another just to see it. Now, I’ve been feeling so sentimental since it’s the first movie I’ve ever watched in the theaters with my boyfriend so I’m re-watching it. 

This movie is about how Stephanie (Anna Kendrick) uncovers the truth about her friend Emily’s (Blake Lively) disappearance right after she asks her to fetch her son from school.

It was such an eye-opening film, and I personally think that the message of it is that no matter how glamorous or collected a person looks like from the outside, sometimes its a facade that they put up to hide the twisted thoughts that they have inside their minds. 

People should stop believing the misconception that it’s only the very “ugly” looking people that could be suspicious. You never know until you actually get to interact with the person on a much deeper level if you should start getting less cautious around them.

But I will say this, I’m a firm believer that people can have really dark secrets from their past mistakes and still be able to actively work on getting their life back on the right track. So while it seems that some secrets are more twisted than the other we should also try to put ourselves in the shoes of the person before we judge their whole character.

my thoughts on: Searching (2018)

I'm not so sure how many of you have not seen this film yet, but if you've been contemplating on whether you should or not. My advice is to go watch it :3

Personally, this movie really hits close to home. I'd like to believe that when most of us, as children tend to stray away from our parents as we get older. As we grow up, we begin to make our own decisions, slowly and slowly we forget to update our parents about what's going on in our daily lives. We become our own person, someone almost completely different from who our parents knew as.

This film is all about David Kim's journey on how he will unfold the happenings on his daughter Margot's disappearance on Thursday, May 11, 2017.

What’s interesting about it though, is at the beginning of his search he realizes that his daughter weren’t really close to a lot of people that she went to school with. Goes to show that kids these days use the term “friend” very loosely. 

I also appreciate the fact that they included a bunch of snippets proving how some of us can be so exaggerated on social media. For example this girl Abigail Nielsen, who invited her to study group, said that they weren’t really close and apparently only invited her because she wants to get into Berkeley the next school year. But as soon as the issue is announced on public television, she posts a video of her crying in front of the camera and calling Margot her best friend.

And not to sound like a nagging parent but another thing that this points out is that we should all be cautious in using the internet. You never know who actually is behind the screen and you should always make sure that before you make “friends” online, you get to know them really well and know the real identity of the person. Just because nothing bad has happened to you yet does not mean that the chances get slimmer.

I hope that this film encourages the young generation and their parents to remember to reconnect every now and then. In any kind of relationship communication is important. Honestly this made me message my mom a simple I love you, just to let her know that even now that I’ve moved out, I still think of her.

the one about “smallfoot”

I was finally able to watch this movie thanks to my boyfriend’s collection of movies in his laptop and of course ALL THIS TIME we have to catch up on snuggles while watching movies. 

This movie puts you in a very winter-y mood, (which I’m only guessing because I haven’t really experienced winter before LOL, but hey it was raining when we watched it, that’s the best that I’m gonna get for now)

“Not every legend is a tall tale” --- In the trailer they tell you that this is the thought that the movie conveys and in a way its true. But AS USUAL theres so much more!

 > Ignorance is bliss. : A lot of adults already tells us this already but sometimes you really forget about it. But, while it’s bliss, we should never want ignorance over knowledge. Being informed and communicating well can lead to a much better society. 

 > You have to look a little deeper. : Usually the “truth” is already laid out in front of you! Looking at things closer can change how things look like.

 > Trying hard to communicate can form strong bonds and mend misunderstandings. : In the end, even without speaking the same language, and looking entirely different from each other, an understanding was made. Of course it can be frightening, but there will always be time when you don’t feel safe with people and creatures who are completely different from you. You have to try to communicate however you can! Friendly gestures and putting on a smile usually does the trick. Don’t attack others just because they’re different. 

All in all this animated film turned out to be very educational, not only for children but I believe much more for adults. I hope a lot of people watch it.

THE PRINCESS SWITCH

It. Has. Been. A. Hot. Minute! ---since I've seen Vanessa Hudgens in a movie~ (well actually I've only ever seen her in High School Musical I'm so sorry, pls don't cancel me)

I've been wanting to explore new holiday movies since I think this blog has had its fair share of thriller movies and it's already December so SLEIGH-MY-BELLS.

Now, let's talk about the movie. Are you familiar with, "The Princess and the Pauper"? Well if you're down for that guuuuuuud twin shiz then this movie is for you! 

I have no idea why I keep on squealing while watching this around 2am but I sure hope that my neighbors don't complain to my landlord that I was being noisy as fudge. 

It's a very cliche romantic comedy but I'm pretty sure there's still a bunch of stuff that you can learn from it.

That being said, I think the main point of this story is, relationships are all about: truth, honor and love. 

Maybe I'm being too deep all about it but for me it shows that you should be together with someone if you can always be truthful to them, you feel honored by being with them, and because you simply just love them. The same thing goes for people who already are in a relationship with someone, and even though there's a lot of factors to be considered, you should never feel obligated to stay with someone. 

Just think of it this way, it's not fair to you or that person to live in a facade. Personally I don’t think it’s a very christmassy life lesson but nonetheless still a great one to keep in mind.

MILLION YEN WOMEN

Shin Michima (Yojiro Noda) is an unpopular novelist. He has lived with 5 mysterious women in the same house for half a year. Minami Shirakawa (Rila Fukushima) loves coffee. Hitomi Tsukamoto (Rena Matsui) loves black tea, yoga and reading good books. Yuki Kobayashi (Miwako Wagatsuma) is a polite woman and loves roasted green tea. Midori Suzumura (Rena Takeda) is a high school student and loves acerola juice. Nanaka Seki (Yuko Araki) loves drinking milk. These 5 women pay Shin a million yen every month for rent and living expenses. They have roles in the house and questions about the women are banned.

This series has been given the title of “writer’s wet dream” and just looking at these ladies, I can surely tell why. But it’s definitely way more than that.

It blew my marbles awayyyy. OOOF. There were so many plot twists and the actors really portrayed their characters well.

I have a strong feeling in my heart that Netflix is gonna bring out the Japanese series more into the spotlight and I really can't wait!

Break Up 100 (2014)

THIS IS TO ALL THE COUPLES WHO HAVE BEEN ON A CONSTANT ON AND OFF RELATIONSHIP~

This Hong Kong romantic comedy film reminds me sooooo much of my friends. I doubt that they would even read this but still LOL So this couple is known among their friend group to constantly "break up" when things go rough.

In the beginning of this movie, the girl, was said to be someone who was able to get whatever she wants, but by the time they got into a relationship, she immediately offers herself to serve her man. Which is most likely why, she is often quick to feel unappreciated in the relationship, and has ALWAYS been the one to initiate the break up. While the man, always ends up giving in which resulted to a total of 99 breakups.

When they got back together for the 100th time, the guy made the girl swear that she wouldn't break up with him anymore.

And they decided, what a better way to have more commitment towards each other than starting a business together. That's how "La Je t'aime" was opened for business.

At first, it wasnt even doing well, but then a couple breaks up in their relationship and leaves a box that has their couple ring in it. Initially they just gossiped about it among their friends and staff until the boyfriend gets the idea of writing a quote related to heartbreak on a sticky note and put it on the shelf in their cafe. Then people started going to their cafe solely to leave an item that had a significant memory regarding a breakup and their business started to skyrocket!

Now as business goes busier and busier, girlfriend started to feel like she couldn't take the unfair division of tasks anymore. Do you think they'll break up for the 100th time?

I think the reason why this is so good for couples who breakup often is because you'll see both sides of the story and not just one person's point of view. If you're like me, you'd definitely do some reflection.

Okay... so if you live in the US chances are you’ve probably seen this already. BUT PHILIPPINE NETFLIX CAN BE LATE OKAY (lol im not really angry or anything im soft)

But for everyone else who has not seen it, OR have thought of watching it, here are my thoughts.

If you look for this movie on IMDb, here’s their description for the film:

Alice, an ambitious camgirl, wakes up one day to discover she's been replaced on her show with an exact replica of herself. 

Now, why did I watch this film? Well I’ve always find people in the sex work industry interesting. I think that they do really difficult work and not enough people show appreciation for what they do. And I think this film can be one of the windows to their life story. (But keep in mind that every person’s story is different.)

I really enjoyed watching this film. If you ask me, I think Madeline Brewer did an amazing job portraying her character. 

But as much as the lead role did amazing and the supporting characters really did great too, what I really liked is that Isa Mazzei, the writer for the plot was actually a former cam-girl herself. Which contributed to how (according to collider.com) it became the one of the smartest, rawest genre films of the year and that it is introducing audiences to the world of online sex work in the camming community and the passionate drive of the women who make their living there.

I personally couldn’t get my eyes off of the screen which meant I have to take my laptop to the bathroom with me whenever I have to pee LOL. 

AND THE TWIST IN THE STORY IS REALLY  w o w

5 food related YouTube channels that you should definitely subscribe to (NOT IN ANY PARTICULAR ORDER)

1. Cooking with Dog Feel like making Japanese cuisine? THIS CHANNEL IS GONNA GIVE YOU LIFE. Especially when it comes to pastries, I always check if this channel has a tutorial for it first before I check other channels. It's quite funny too, because the main host of the show is Francis, this really cute dog who speaks english. I got really good grades in high school from following their recipes for my Home Economics class. And when I discovered this channel there weren't any other Asian YouTube channels so I just really like staying loyal to them yaknow?

2. Tasty WHO HASN'T EXPERIENCED BEING SO ENTICED BY A TASTY VIDEO AND WHY ARE YOU A LIAR? They make quick easy videos, they make a lot of viral food video, and they have all sorts of content for different age brackets. And recently they even have specific videos that you can follow. I personally love the "Behind Tasty" and "Eating Your Feed". I don't know, maybe because its much more raw compared to ordinary Tasty videos (?) but it's really nice, and I really love Rie, she's so adorable.

3. Bon Appetit - GOURMET MAKES Yes I named a specific series because it's really the only kind of their videos that I watch. It's almost like watching Behind Tasty videos but much more interesting because you can differentiate how technical gourmet cooking can be---so, it's not only entertaining, it's also very educational for people who are very interested in cooking.

4. Stephanie Soo Recently I have been so into Mukbang videos and if you type in Mukbang on the YouTube search bar, her videos would be the first thing to appear in the results! Normally I don't like going to the super popular channels already if they're like, yknow a YouTube individual. Mostly because I like feeling like I found a special gem (lol) that not a lot of people has discovered yet. BUT I can see why people would love her videos! She tells amazing stories while doing her Mukbang. I haven't watched a video of her yet that got me bored. So I don't know, if you want to just have a chill time listening to a person tell stories and you like mukbangs, Stephanie is your girl.

5. Tastemade - Struggle Meals This series currently only has like, 5 episodes (or maybe they just haven’t updated the series playlist). But I think for people who are really trying to have nice food and save money at the same time... you can really apply things that you will learn from Frankie Celenza. You can just follow all of his recipes or even mix it up a little just follow the same principles. THIS GUY TEACHES YOU HOW TO MAKE CHEAP FOOD! WHY WOULD YOU NOT LIKE WATCHING THESE VIDEOS?
