Been thinking a lot about how social media sorta started out as a way to connect people, and how it has changed so vastly over time to the point it’s not about connecting people anymore but about promoting the content that generates the most clicks and interactions, and therefore the most money.

You’re more likely to encounter a bot than a real person. Your posts are going straight into the void unless you appeal to the masses (e.g make something controversial, or use clickbait). Your post on Reddit is ignored in favour of Title: My Girlfriend Just Cheated on Me With My Husbands Boyfriend! Your post on TikTok is gonna get 5k views but 1 like because nobody actually cares except your one mutual (if you even have that). Nobody gives a fuck about your creativity unless you use the right bait.

I’ve been thinking about it a lot due to experience with trying to connect with people, sharing my art (etc), and constantly failing to even get seen or acknowledged. Not to mention most people seem to get on social media to be seen and not to be spoken to. Everyone just avoids each other like the godsdamned plague. Everyone hates each other, there’s always some discourse that is fucking stupid.

Welcome to the internet, I guess, but fuck me I’m tired of it, actually. I just want to make friends because it’s impossible IRL.
