Ford Falcon XD Ute protototype, 1977 (?). During the development of the “radically” new Euro-style XD Falcon of 1979 Ford considered grafting the nose of the XD onto the XC body which dated back to the XA of 1972. The XA-XC series Falcon utes used the longer, pillarless doors of the Falcon Coupe. However a completely new XD ute was developed instead, remaining in production with the same basic architecture through XE, XF, XG and XH series until 1999
