It's heartbreaking when the moments we wait so long for pass us by so quickly.

The First Kiss
Near midnight on a late summer night. My lover and I walked quietly down the path surrounded by trees and woodland sounds. We hadn’t held hands or touched in any way before that night. Down this lovely trail about half a mile, there is an old wooden bridge crossing a shallow river. We had gone off the bridge down to the nearly dry river bed by way of the stairs that were built into the bridge itself. We went exploring a short way from the bridge on an animal trail, not far, just until we couldn’t see the bridge in the dark. I was a little afraid because I could here coyotes in the distance, and wanted to go back to the bridge. I think he was laughing at me, but didn’t tease me for being afraid, I appreciated that. I remember being about 10 feet in front of him the whole way back (for all of 3 minutes) and as I was about to mount the stairs, I looked back and saw him following me. At that moment I thought ‘This would be a perfect first kiss’ (Part of me was sort of waiting for him to make the first move) but I took it upon myself to walk back to him, I think I smiled, and kissed him. I was delighted that he were so responsive, almost giddy that I had kissed him, and he returned the kiss without hesitation. It was perfect. He laughed as we climbed the stars together, and told me he felt like he had won the lottery. That made me laugh. I agree, I felt as though I had won something as well.
