In tribute. The Duchess. Finn was a fabulous dame. Beguiling. Irresistible. In her mind she had full command of her domain with subjects ready to fulfill her slightest demands. She was a creature of habit who loved an organized home and flourished when her schedule could be met. Particularly around meals. Especially dinner. From her green chair/throne she could survey her court at whim. Keeping an eye on things and accepting all manners of affection. In her younger years she was a fabulous broad. A confident seductress with fantastic athletic ability and keen environmental awareness. She could spot a squirrel at one hundred yards in the middle of a forest. And then chase it. For hours. She was a free spirit who aimed high and did things her way. If she wanted to wander off for three hours to roll in a rotten cow carcass then, dammit, she was going to do it. Nobility was in her blood (we think). It was her pace. It was in her body language. She was highly trained but rarely felt a need to work. Not because she was lazy but because she knew her purpose. And that purpose was the Dickerson Family. The Dickerson’s saved Finn from a life of uncertainty. Although she moved from foster to foster a gypsy she was not. Todd, Wendy, Kate and Will were eager to find their other Great Dane, Cheddar, a friend. The family dedicated themselves to creating a thriving and fulfilling life for their rescued animals and Finn was a natural fit. After a few years Finn and Cheddar would welcome a third Dane sibling named Nacho (yes, that Nacho). Together they would turn heads wherever they went. Kids would freeze in disbelief. Countless insta photo ops. It was a marvel to witness. Finn lived to be over thirteen years old which is way longer than average for her breed. No doubt a result of excellent breeding, a loving, balanced and engaging home life and a healthy upbeat attitude. I will miss her marathon staring contests, her eagerness for all adventure and her nose in my butt crack first thing in the morning.
