one of the many people we got to meet at the gloria anzaldua el mundo zurdo conference. @diane.theory is an amazing manifestation of resistance. Her art informed by self exploration and healing. Please check out her art! es inspiración ❤️
Today at Standing Rock during the 1851 Treaty Camp standoff, a hired DAPL security guard was spotted in the crowd with an automatic rifle in his vehicle. When he was spotted, he began to head towards camp. Water protectors made an effort to stop him on the road, in which he shot off onto the shoulder, and began speeding towards camp through the grass. The community feared for the women and children and began taking action. Water protectors began setting up a blockade at the bridge ahead, as 2 water protectors used their vehicles to crash into the security truck, causing him to spin out on the riverbank. The security then exited his vehicle, cocked his AR-15, and began back stepping from protectors into the nearby river. A near half hour stand off took place where water protectors pleaded and tried to defuse the situation of the man coming directly at their families. Eventually, BIA came to the scene, disarmed the man, and his was placed under arrest.
America, this is what is happening here. DAPL will do anything possible, include the threat of death and violence to get this pipeline through. DO NOT LET MAINSTREAM MEDIA LIE TO YOU. Protectors are facing the threat of death simply for protecting water and preserving history.
Orange in his Hand
I see two men sweat at the exit of the freeway.
One is brown and burnt from the sun rays the other is white with an American Flag stitched across his trucker hat.
They both wear dirty clothes. They both burn to hold a little green.
One sells oranges, walking up and down the street. One holds a sign that reads, “I’m hungry, help me eat.” I feel for both of them, but I only admire one.
The one who hands oranges in bags to tired faces, who chases cars for his change, who counts pennies as profit to keep his apartment.
The one whose wife wakes before sunrise to walk through Los Angeles streets yelling “tamales, tamales” with a 4 year old daughter at her side.
The mother who crossed over 4 years earlier so her daughter wouldn’t have to sell tamales with a baby at her side.
The father tells his son never to beg, but to work hard for the bread. So the son sells Cheetos at his high school and gets called beaner for not owning named brand clothes. A son who must bring dollars before good grades because rent is two weeks late. A son who will one day hold a gun to the head of a liquor store clerk, only to remember his father’s words.
Mijo, work hard for the bread.
Rent is two weeks late so the family breaks tax laws to make jobs and they lifts roses to the sky hoping someone passing by is falling in love again, so the family takes elotes to the neighborhood projects hoping the ninos are hungry.
The news says this family is here to take my job, my seat in school, my country, but the only thing they’re taking is the risk of being handcuffed, broken and deported in the name of family in the name of love in the name of trying everything to stay above the current and that is why I can’t help
But to admire the man with an orange in his hand, a fireball of hunger in his palm.
I love my people. We are hard workers and we never beg for money. How often do you see a Latino beggar? Exactly, it’s rare. Why? Because we work for our money. If it means selling flowers, corn, fruit, ice cream, whatever it is, we WORK for it. We don’t ask for anything for free. All we want is a better future for our families and we are willing to work for it! So how are you going to say we don’t belong in this country of opportunity when we actually take advantage of that opportunity and WORK for a better life instead of fuckin standing at a corner of a McDonald’s waiting for someone to drop a coin or two into a fuckin cup?
^^ what I’ve been saying for so long
canada actually kept its Japanese citizens interned until 1949, a full FOUR YEARS after the war’s end and three years after the United States released their Japanese citizens
Fuck Canada
Seriously, the phrase “only in America” needs to die a slow, painful, horrible death.

Protect Native Womxn ✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽
NOT A PONY POST. But please watch this. Please. All of it.
Perhaps one of the most important posts I’ve ever made here.
-Tasers. -The deliberate misuse and abuse of an LRAD hailing device to turn it into a sonic weapon. (Its not nore was it ever meant to be a sonic weapon, the inventors stressed that heavily. But you know, what do these police have no care for respect.) -Pepper spray. (Even peppery spraying the camera crew). -Physically attacking people. (Again even reporters) -Pointing guns at unarmed people. -Using “non-lethal” weapons at LETHAL RANGES.
All to stop peaceful protesters in the name of protecting and serving some company.
This isn’t even a freaking riot.

The Dakota Access pipeline is funded directly by 17 banks, many of which—Citibank, Wells Fargo—are ones you’ve probably heard of or do business with.
If you use any of these major banks please consider doing this, it’s just as easy as liking a status.
I can’t believe this is happening. History is Repeating
and people wonder why America is turning on its police..
Tensions are escalating at the Dakota Access Pipeline. Now one of the protestors is asking you to get involved– even if you don’t live nearby.

Sent by the Great Spirit Thousands of Wild Buffalo Appear Out of Nowhere at Standing Rock
Native Americans attempting to stop a pipeline from being built on their land and water just got assistance from a large herd of wild buffalo.
Indigenous culture honors American bison (known as Tatanka Oyate, or Buffalo Nation) as a symbol of sacrifice, as the bison give their lives to provide food, shelter, and clothing through the use of their meat and their hides. Native Americans maintain a spiritual tradition with bison, believing that as long as buffalo — a gift from the Great Spirit — roam free and as long as the herds are bountiful, the sovereignty of indigenous people would remain strong.
And in the midst of mass arrests, mace attacks, and beatings from batons, a stampede of bison suddenly appeared near the Standing Rock protest camp. A cry of joy reportedly erupted from the Standing Rock Sioux, as they had been praying for assistance from the Tatanka Oyate during their standoff with riot police and national guardsmen. Armed militants in Oregon exonerated while Native #NoDAPL protesters get maced and arrested
When Native Americans peacefully protest burial land desecration, they get attacked. Yet when white militants use armed force, they walk free. I guess that 1st amendment stuff is conditional. SMH. #Hate it!
