HELLO! Sorry for the absence. This comic was the reason I was not able to upload something new… but I AM BACK.
This is a comic based on the song named “La Llorona” (the one that Mamá Imelda sings with Ernesto de la Cruz in Coco), but adapted to Hiro and Miguel.
“La Llorona” (“The weeping woman") is a real Mexican folk song. Nobody knows exactly who is the real author of this sing (it seems it was anonymous but many people thinks it was thanks to a man named Andres Henestrosa).
This song is so popular that many artists have done its own version (the original lyrics are so long so they do shorter versions of it). I discovered a cover singed by a young Mexican singer named Ángela Aguilar, and the video inspired me a lot to create this comic. May be you’ll not understand the lyrics because she created her own version of the song (is not the same as I use for this comic), but I’ll leave the comic if you want to see it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5z99E… (visually, it was a great reference for the palette color).
When I discovered this fact, I really wanted to do my own version related to Hiro and Miguel. I wrote it in Spanish first and then Axureé Rheid (a friend of mine and Higuel shipper and artist) did a translation of the lyrics into English. This lyrics are the translation of the ones you read at the images of the comic. And it ended up like this:

NOTE: As I mentioned, this is a comic based on the song of “La Llorona” but it’s adapted to Hiro and Miguel. In the comic of “La Bikina” (the last comic I did) we could appreciate that the one that is suffering is Hiro. He rejects Miguel’s support because he thinks he can handle Tadashi’s death (but he can’t), but now… what if the one who is suffering is Miguel?
May be it could be hard imagining Miguel in a sad mood, because of his personality and it seems he sees dead as a “not so terrible” deal, but is not the same grief when the person dies for a disease cause (or even age) than for someone who dies on your arms unexpectedly in front of your eyes.
I tried to play with this idea with Miguel, and the situation ended up like this:
“There was a big fire in a forest, near a river. Miguel was caught between the flames, and it was difficult to get out of there, but Hiro went to save him. When they ran out of the place, they reached the river to cross the other side and Hiro, for lack of impulse, drowns inside him, and dies in Miguel’s arms.
This accident happened 3 years ago, and every Day of the Dead Miguel goes to the place where the accident occurred to make an ofrenda in honor of Hiro next to a cross* that he placed in the place where he died.”
*Placing a cross in the place where a person died is something very common to see in Mexico, especially in hills and roads.
