It had been months since Jill had been able to see her mother face to face. They kept in contact on the phone and over Skype ā but for what Jill wanted to talk to her about was something she needed to do face to face. She was racing around her small apartment at the court ā trying to make it as clean as she could because she knew if she didnāt, her mother would spend their dayĀ cleaning instead of actually spending the time together.
Jill was nervous though ā for the first time in her life she was nervous about talking with her mother because she wasnāt sure how it would all go. She was going toĀ bring up a touchy subject and that was the reason Jill had requested to only see her mother this time around and that John stayed back home. She loved John dearly ā he was her father, there was no doubt about it. But the subject of her conversation with her mother today would be one that may hurt him and she couldnāt bare to see that hurt on his face. He was the man who stepped into the fatherly role and raised her as his own daughter and she was going to sit her mother down today and ask about another man.
Even after she had found out Jill had never asked or pressed her mother for details about him ā nor had she asked Lissa any details either. She didnāt feel as though she had the right to know. Her mother and her sister were part of his life and knew him well and they deserved to know and treasure all of those memories ā but what right did Jill have to intrude on those memories to try to make up her mind about who he really was? There was nothing more than blood between them, she had never met him and hadnāt even looked up any images of him to see if there was any family resemblance. She felt like a traitor if she had done that ā like she was betraying John, her father and the man she would always call her father. But each day the curiosity burned more and more and she couldnāt take it anymore, she needed to know the details and with her relationship with Lissa still somewhat rocky she had no other choice but to ask her mother.
SheĀ snapped out of her thoughts as she heard a knock on her door and EmilyĀ MastranoĀ let herself into the apartment. Jill smiled and made her way over to her mother ā no matter what had happened in the past, this woman was still her mother and she missed her so bad when she had to return back to Michigan for work. Jillās arms wrapped around the older moroiās neck and hugged her tightly ā surprising Emily a bit but it was only a moment before she returned the warm welcome. Jill pulled back and it only took one look from her and Emilyās expression dropped. āWhat is it Jill? Whatās wrong?ā
āI..ā she cut herself off and stepped back, grabbing her motherās hand and pulled her over to the small couch and sat down, tucking her long legs under her almost awkwardly. āI wanted to talk to you about things. Stuff I havenāt been able to ask anyone else.ā
āIs this the birds and beeās talk because I thought we covered all of that when you were younger.ā Emily asked before quickly adding. āIs there a boy you wanted to talk about? Is that why you asked John not to come?ā
Jill frowned and shook her head quickly, somewhat embarrassed that her mother thought she was here to give herĀ thatĀ talk. She didnāt need to know the birds and bees. She had learnt all she needed to know when she was younger and had learnt far too much from the bond with Adrian.
āNo mom, I needed to talk to you about something else.ā She paused and ran her hand through her hair before quickly blurting out. āI want to ask you about Eric.ā
There was silence in the room for what seemed like eternity to Jill. Her motherās expression hadnāt changed at all and she just sat there silent, collecting her thoughts before finally speaking.
āI knew this day would come, I knew you would want to know about him in the end. But it is something I donāt like talking about Jill. That is my past and something I left a very long time ago.ā She responded with an almost pained expression.
āMom, you need to tell me about him, please. Donāt I have that right? Donāt I have any right at all to know even just a small but about him? John is my father ā he always will be, but mom I canāt keep on going and pretending that Eric isnāt a part of me. My blood is not just yours but it is his too and I just want to know.ā Jill spoke quickly as if in a plea to her mother, her hands had reached out and heldĀ Emilyās.
Emily let out a defeated sigh. āYou remind me a lot of him, even growing up I could always see him when I looked at you. You already know that you have his eyes; they are signatureĀ DragomirĀ right there. But even your light hair is because of him, my black mixed with his blonde and you get that beautiful shade of brunette. Youāre never give up attitude is his as well. He was an amazing man Jill; he just wasnāt the man I was going to stayĀ with. He had his wife and children and I had you.ā She spoke quietly and squeezed her daughter's hand as a comforting gesture but Jill pulled it back away and moved away from her mother.
āYou knew he had a wife and children and you still had an affair with him?ā she spat out, angrier than she wanted but she couldnāt take that back now. Part of her was angry and hurt about all of this and she had to get everything off her chest and tell her mother how she really felt.
āHow could you do that to his family mom? Rhea?Ā Andre? Lissa? Did you ever stop and think about them? About what you were doing and how It could affect them if they found out?ā She spat out question after question and mentioningĀ Lissa andĀ AndreĀ sparked another anger inside of her. āI had a brother and a sister and you never once told me. You knew who my father was and he tried to see me and you stopped him! I will never get the chance to meetĀ AndreĀ or Eric now even if I wanted to because they are gone! You lied to me mom, my entire life you just lied to me.ā
Emily sat back - shocked and hurt by her daughterās words, but there was guilt in there too. Most of what Jill had said was true andĀ it hurt her a lot to hear them out loud. āI did it all to protect you Jill. TheĀ Dragomirās were a dying family and if I had of let you into that world, there would have been so much pressure put on you. People would be trying to corrupt you for their own guilty wants to try to get in good with you because you would have been one of the very few that were left.ā She paused. āAnd I failed at protecting you even now. You declared yourself a Dragomir for the sake ofĀ VasilisaĀ and though I was so scared, I have never been more proud of you for that. But I failed you Jill, I couldnāt protect you.ā
Her words broke off and a tear ran down Emilyās cheek and her words came out softer. āWhen the attack happened, and everything was lost and everything happened so fast. I couldnāt find you and I didnāt know what to do. Then when I finally found you theĀ IvashkovĀ boy had already gotten to you. He saved you when I couldnāt and I feel like a failure of a mother that even after all these years I couldnāt be there when you needed me the most. I hate going back home and leaving you here. If I could take you home with me right this moment I would. ButĀ VasilisaĀ needs you here and I know that you have guardians watching you very closely.ā
Jill couldnāt help the tears that ran down her cheeks and she threw herself into her motherās arms, coddling herself into her mothers chest as if she were a small child again. She too felt guilty about the words she had said and nothing could change that theyĀ had been saidĀ and she had meant them. What could change now was the relationship that she had with her mother and they could build on that together.
āI love you mom, and you did everything you could. Thank you.ā She spoke as Emily held her close. āAnd Iām sorry I spoke like that, I canāt help it sometimes, but I promise that things will get better.ā
