something i’m really curious about is the bonnie/bonbon situation. they act like two completely different people but when bonbon first shows up it’s explicitly stated that he’s the bonnie from the fnaf 1 location. the others call him bonnie and he even paints himself purple to look like his old costume. but then the time travel stuff comes into play and you realize these are entirely separate characters
fnaf 1 bonnie is southern and loves potatoes (sorry, taters) and is a secret time traveler while bonbon is… not southern and loves candy and is a wizard. whenever they meet i don’t recall bonbon recollecting anything that happened as bonnie and bonnie doesn’t seem freaked out over the fact that he’s apparently going to experience ego death and become a different person entirely
what is going on with them. like i know it’s likely the voice actors just… didn’t think about that but what’s the in universe explanation?? i have my own theory/headcanon/au but what about you?
Going to preface this with something: Given this is not Serious Theory Time™, in the interest of responding to you within a week despite my brain being evil, my citations are going to be very basic at best. I'll do my best to remember to add citations later, and for sure will quickly if this is an issue! I just don't want this ask rotting longer than it already has, my apologies
This is something I've Noticed, but never ended up focusing on in terms of theorizing. I also can't particularly remember anything of note to prove or disprove any kind of theory also? However, you have opened this to HC territory, so I'll discuss what I think is most logical in canon. Tiny me when I was watching this as it was being uploaded just sort of assumed the first option I'll discuss here:
1, Bonnie completely wrecked his past/present/future. As I said before, I don't particularly have notable evidence any which way, but time travel in most media often can have. Consequences. If you fuck around and find out.
And Oh Boy Does Bonnie Fuck Around And Find Out. He goes Everywhere and Anywhere he wants without a care in the world. Him possibly just...Going wayyyy too hard on that isn't impossible in my eyes, which ends up making it a weird situation where he both is and isn't Bon-Bon. This results in their wildly differing personalities, accents, etc.
2, for the more grounded in reality/non-magic one? Foxy himself seems to believe that Bon-Bon & Bonnie do act fairly similar (although, it's not like he's incapable of being wrong. In many ways he Objectively is.), explicitly stating so in the first FNAF 1 "dream", so, if we ignore any time travel shenanigans? Well
We're aware that Bon-Bon after being permanently taken away from one of his friends (even if they argue a lot, he spent Actual Years performing & killing with Chica) & temporarily taken away from the rest; forced to meetup with new coworkers either alone Or with Freddy who we know was not kind in an episode wherein Freddy confesses to forcing him to hold up his greacy chicken; he was...Frankly, mutilated? His creator/mechanic made him extremely tiny, took away his legs, put him into a suit with new eyes (that he Also paints over, while canon Bon-Bon has pink eyes he has Green when the paint's removed); and then sticks him on Freddy's hand, which, again, Was Not fun for him. After he escapes he ends up in the sewers (given he eventually got out via a toilet in the 2nd or 3rd ep), and ends up meeting up with a girl obsessed with him for no apparent reason that he Actively runs & hides from even before she becomes a villain.
Which is to say, well. Is it too serious to offer just straight up trauma as a possible cause? Even if individually these things might not have been traumatic, that's still a Lot of stress, and we do know that the OG trio miss Chica so put grief on top of this all.
Now, those are my two, like. Serious thoughts. However I have a 3rd one that is completely deranged, but has the most Situational evidence in Existence. I do not seriously believe it, but it'd be interesting as an AU for sure!
3, he. Might. Not Be Bonnie. Why would he lie? I have, like. One idea, but it is Just as deranged as this possibly is. You'll also have to give a moment to explain
The Voice is Ennard. I believe The Voice specifically is the original Ft. Foxy; there's a Lot of reasons I suspect this to the point where it will be a different post and I'll edit a link in later because. Oh Boy™. She at minimum tried to escape with her Ft. Freddy, which we can tell because she outright asks if Freddy remembers him, and then says he's a Different Freddy, during her first takeover.
She later does this to Circus Baby in one of the early episodes involving her, which I suspect was her trying to talk to Freakshow (Again. Another Post.).
She never does this to Bon-Bon, however. But she also is, somewhat strangely, friendly with Bon-Bon, calling him cute to try to encourage his romantic endeavors. (despite also wanting to eat Gregory like 40 episodes ago) This is mostly comparable to her reaction to Ballora, wherein her Very First Words of the entire series to someone who Wasn't Foxy was telling Ballora she wanted her dead. So. Not a fan of some people even early on!
We have reason against CB being a replacement (she has a soul in her that becomes Freakshow + is confirmed to have killed Elizabeth/another child with the same death which logically is just Elizabeth *surely*.), and Ballora is actively close friends with CB from the very first episode, fully sobbing when reminded she's missing, so probably not a replacement if CB isn't.
We also know that at minimum Puppet both knew "Ennard", their plan, And is opposed to it (ANOTHER POST SORRY). So, whatever "get back to him again" means, at least one person in the Main crew was against it while also being in the know.
So. Theoretically. If you were a little hand puppet wanting to escape from your puppet master who was going to follow through with a plan you didn't agree with, you'd. Run away. Fast as you can. And, if you get caught, and put on a new Ft. Freddy who is an Asshole, but for some reason thinks your *his* Bonnie who got turned into his puppet, with some basic visual descriptions, you could. Just. Make yourself look like him and pretend. So that "Ennard" doesn't manage to ever, ever catch you.
Which, if so, in this deranged theory, works seemingly.
