Cal is most definitely my favorite character from @theofficetypeofficial, so how could I not write some kind of drabble for them? <3
(Y/N) = your name, an intern at the office. gender neutral pov. may be rewritten in the future as we gather more information about the characters.
It was a tepid sort of day, with mild weather - clouds lazily drifted in and out of the sun’s way in the office, causing light to change in a consistent manner. (Y/N) had been busy all morning, and finally had managed to catch a breather between meetings. Sighing softly, they sipped their coffee, glancing at the office aquarium that held colorful, neon fish.
“G-good morning,” a quiet voice greeted the intern. (Y/N) turned to see a shy wave and a small smile on Cal, their sweet brown eyes locked on (Y/N)’s reaction, and fought a radiant grin, as well as a rosy blush from appearing. For awhile now, (Y/N) had taken a certain liking to Cal - their love of photography and fish drew (Y/N) in like a moth was to a light.
“Good morning, Cal!” answered (Y/N), who was unable to keep their bubbling excitement out of their voice. “Have you seen they added new fish to the aquarium?”
“Yes!” Cal’s countenance lit up, smiling so radiantly that the office intern thought they [Y/N] were watching the sun rise over the horizon. “It was, uh... the first thing I checked when I came in this morning.”
Taking a closer look, (Y/N) could see that a flush was slowly growing more visible on Cal’s cheeks. “They - er - they added several red minor tetras as well as diamond tetras.”
“Did they?” said (Y/N), curiosity alighting their face. “Would you point them out to me?”
“Sure!” Waving the intern over bashfully, Cal’s index finger was pointed at a purple-ish fish with pale blue edges on its fins. “Er- here’s a diamond tetra.”
Both fish lovers spent awhile gazing at the mesmerizing bodies swimming in the blue water behind the crystal glass that separated two worlds. (Y/N) was conscious of how close Cal was, and could see every centimeter of their soft face; the office intern fought feelings that made them feel flustered.
“Oh, sugar! I have to go to a meeting now, look at the time,” Cal muttered quickly, their brown eyes momentarily wide and panicked before falling on (Y/N) once more. “I...I hope we, um, we can do this soon again...or e-erm, perhaps s-study something other than fish?”
Hesitantly, but charmingly endearing, Cal placed a delicate kiss on (Y/N)’s lips. It was a kiss full of hope and shy adoring feelings, one than left the office intern curious and excited to spend time with Cal. A dulcet kiss, full of saccharine feelings that filled both of them with warmth and love.
I love and support @theofficetypeofficial They are working very hard to make a game inclusive and I appreciate it! They listen to the fans and even the people who were hating on them!
hi!! can this Hellsite please take a second to acknowledge these statements by Heavy Thought Studios in response to the criticism going around recently
we barely know much about the game and y’all are already quickly jumping to conclusions based off of 6 out of the 24 characters that will be released. i understand the concerns going around about what has been released so far, i really do! but i feel like much of the criticism for this game comes from y’all blindly listening to a tumblr post without taking a minute to scope out the dev’s twitter and do a bit of research yourself.
i am a nonbinary person of color and i am honestly looking forward to the direction that Heavy Thought Studios will be taking with for the rest of The Office Type cast. please do take a minute to read this statement and perhaps reconsider your thoughts on the matter!
i should also mention that based off of this tweet, the fact that the logo is similarly colored to the pansexual flag is entirely coincidental. i… really don’t think think they’re trying to promote the idea that you have to be a ~special sexuality~ to date nonbinary people at all. but again, y’all like to quickly jump to conclusions ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You might or might not have heard about the upcoming game ‘The Office Type’ and you might or might not have made a wrong assumption about it based on two characters from it.
Tumblr went wild upon seeing Syl and Benny, claiming and assuming lots of things about the developing team. But I suggest you to give this game another shot. I am aware that several people already blacklisted the game without even giving it a second chance, which I find sad since they won’t be able to see how wonderful the non-binary cast is looking as for now.
If are willing to give the game a second chance, ignored it due Tumblr or simply never heard of it until now: I highly suggest you to check out this link and judge the game by yourself.
This game is offering men, women and non-binary dating options! They all have different personalities, backgrounds and ethnicities. The characters come in sets of three, each of the based from a different office supply (I only included the non-binary options in this post to prove a point).
We really don’t see this amount of representation so often, and Tumblr already demonized this game enough. I think we should be thankful someone is out there trying to make progress instead of bashing them for not fitting each person’s standards

When you hold queer content creators on a pedestal and expect them to get every detail 100% perfect from the first scraps of concept art to the final project, you scare other queer content creators away from creating more queer content.

So I haven’t heard ANYTHING about The Office Type in months (since Tumblr got it’s knickers in a twist over the “stereotypical” looking NB characters) so I went into the tag to check out if there’s been any news

Tumblr culture gets like this with ANY queer or queer-coded media we get. Anything nice we get either has to be torn apart because it’s not perfect, or has to be dug through every miniscule detail of the media until something even remotely problematic can be found and used as “proof” that the media is completely horrible.
And now that it’s been proven that the NB characters are as varied as I said they would be, the people who tore The Office Type to shreds are sitting in awkward silence because they’re not willing to admit they were wrong.

Inspiration
My mom has an affinity with binder clips, and used to buy the pretty ones all the time; I love the pretty ones with print on them, and went from there fjdksafsaddd.
I’m Chinese myself and I’m somewhat similar to Bee - I love making friends and always wanted a tiara collection myself :D Bee’s cat is also my own cat, Holly. However, I’m not at all organized nor do I have myself together like Bee does.
To anyone who still might be wary of The Office Type, we encourage you to give it another shot. We’re still early in development, but we’ve been releasing more of our characters and we love all of the excitement so far!
We have a team including several talented people who are non-binary, transgender, people of color, and various sexualities, and we’ve been talking with the community to incorporate proper representation. If you have concerns, please voice them! You may be surprised by what we can do to round out our game. We’re not promising perfect representation. But our community agrees that we’ve been making good progress, and you’re getting a funny, heartfelt experience in the process. Please don’t dismiss the hard work of our team.
