During her Birthday Hand Grazing, we played the game “What Will Ivy Choose? Spring Grass vs Birthday Cupcake” edition.

Ivy’s Answer?

Her Royal Highness is 28 today. That's almost 26 years of her and I being partners in crime. We spent some time in the sun while she grazed the grass on the other side of the fence... After she enjoyed a couple of apple, carrot, and oat cupcakes, of course.

Stinky old lady hours. Trimmed all 4 while she ate her hot alfalfa soup for lunch. They need a little more clean-up, but my quads and glutes had some things to say to me by hoofer #4.

She's so good, though. She lets me work in her stall, untied. She doesn't lean she doesn't snatch her hoofers. She just sometimes needs a break on the hinds because Old Lady Hock Arthritis. Which is totally fair.

Where Ivy agists the pastures are of moderate size, but rarely have more than 3 horses in each, and for a while now it has just been Ivy and a paint gelding together. Each pair of pastures shares a hay hutch/roundbale hut with a slow-feed net tucked into the fence line.

Unfortunately the area around Ivy's pasture gate and the shared hay hut has been an off-and-on quagmire since this autumn.

The barn owner has tried to correct it, but explained to me that no matter how much gravel and sand she has put down the past few weeks that the area just kept being an ongoing, sloppy mess.

Her solution has been to move the hut to a higher, dry area in the pasture, take down the fencing and posts and then combine both pastures. Now the two herds are one in double the space. This move happened yesterday and thus Ivy has found herself in a herd of 5.

Ivy is now, also, the only mare with 4 geldings.

Apparently, according to the b.o., she kicked all their asses in turn on the first day, in the span of an hour and is, as always, the unequivocal boss and Queen of the Pasture. (As is her birthright!)

When I brought her in for lunch, all 4 geldings trotted and cavorted around and behind us as we went to the gate. Three of the geldings were calling for her while I had her in the barn. (She did scream in reply.)

Then, the geldings all rushed to and crowded the gate when I brought Ivy back.

Ivy pinned her ears and they parted like the red sea.

The point?

Her highness now has a harem of dumb, QH boy toys.

She's an absolute goddamn cougar as she has a decade more of life under her belt compared to any of the others.

I shall now refer to them all as:

Ivy and The Himbos
