you had me at hiking. i feel like i’ve hardly been able to go out on a genuine hike in lima in the last few weeks, and the fresh air is always needed. i’m sure it’ll be plenty sobering after a wild night. that, or you’re in for a world of hurt when you get a mile in and start to really feel the effects.

They’re always coming out with designer or collaboration lines. I would have got those Balenciaga platform ones if I wasn’t poor af. Pretty sure they did a thing with the Biebs recently too. And this is the beauty of the crocs, you can wear them with or without socks dependent on the activity. Wild swimming? No socks, but crocs will protect you from cutting your feet. Need to go out and grab your post or take out the bins? Socks and crocs are the one.

now this is the attitude we all need on a monday morning. i, for one, am totally on board. i did my usual five mile run this morning and it was, well yeah, i guess you could say heavenly. but now i need a large coffee and some motivation to finish this day being spent stuck in an office instead of outside. what about you? what other plans do you have to kickstart your morning?

did crocs suddenly come out with a new designer line? because i don’t think we’re thinking of the same crocs. actually, nothing about a clog shaped shoe screams ‘superior’ to me. i mean, they don’t even protect you from the rain. and are you supposed to wear socks with them or go barefoot? too confusing.

Hattie watched as he ordered more alcohol, realising he probably felt the same way she did, knowing some pretty strong drinks would be needed to make it through the evening in one piece. She shook her head as he joked, trying hard to not make it look like she may actually be enjoying his company. “I’ll make sure to keep on the look out for some plastic grapes then, I feel it will definitely complete that apartment of yours. Although I’m not sure you need anything else to end up being hoarded in boxes.” She smirked, finishing off her glass of wine before deciding to order something stronger herself, knowing dinner would most likely be a while and she couldn’t sit with nothing to stop her throwing any insults at the guy. Hattie had to admit her favourite tipple was definitely tequila, it often left her worse for wear the next day, but she couldn’t resist it. Hattie raised her eyebrows as she listened to him explain why he left NY, although she definitely got a feeling he thought she lived in the dark ages as she could clearly see his motive for moving home. “Right, so you were afraid you wouldn’t get your inheritance if you didn’t move home and look somewhat interested in the family business?” She couldn’t help but let out a small giggle, knowing she would most likely feel the same way if she was in that position, of course she would never admit that to Theo though. Thanking the waiter as they brought over her tequila, Hattie’s expression soon changed as he swung the question back around to her. She hadn’t spoken with anyone about why she really left LA and she wasn’t entirely sure she was ready to. “Ah, you don’t want to hear about my silly ol’ story, you don’t have to ask just to seem like you’re interested. I’m sure you’d much prefer to talk about yourself.” Hattie downed her shot of tequila, breaking eye contact with Theo as she looked away, hoping he’d bring something else up to break the tension.

for the first time that night, it hit theo just how much he was laughing. laughing. he knew the date wouldn’t be the ned of the world or anything, but he didn’t expect to be actually enjoying himself. and maybe it was just the alcohol in his system, but whatever it was, it seemed to be working. “hey now, don’t limit yourself to grapes. any plastic vegetables will do just fine, i think. besides, if they’re supposed to be my centerpiece decoration it’s not going to end up in the boxes, now are they?” he asked, finishing off his second drink and quietly watching as she too ordered something stronger. “i mean i either inherit the business or my brother does, so it’s not like it’s a huge deal. it’s just something i’ve kinda had my goals centered towards for a while,” he shrugged, letting that be the most he said on that subject. “i told you, i’m not in the habit of bullshitting. i asked because i was genuinely interested, but you don’t have to tell me if you really don’t want to,” as the night went on, the conversation staggered while the drinks kept coming. but honestly, he wasn’t not enjoying his night. and that’s all he could hope for, right? eventually, their food arrived despite the busy-ness the night had brought. but it worked well, as at that point theo was hungry enough and feeling the effects of the alcohol enough to not care one bit. “well? is it better than your chicken salad sandwich, miss wilde?”

I have no desire to live in Hollywood. I’ve been there, and I enjoyed my visit, but I couldn’t live there. I like being able to come back home to my small town, with the people I know, the bar I love… and just relax. I also think those lookalikes are a joke, and it’s kind of sad that people dress up like characters, and walk around Hollywood Boulevard, taking advantage of tourists who don’t know better. Yeah, there are. I think… the next one is four or five? I don’t know, there’s a lot to keep track of. That is pretty much exactly what you need to do. But make sure you wait until you’ve watched all of the films before you watch Black Widow, along with WandaVision, The Falcon & the Winter Soldier, and Loki. 

I’m sure your lungs appreciate the less smoke and smog than the city. I know your body adjusts to different cities, but honestly, the fresh air of a small town is way better than the busy city air. I think NOLA might be my favourite place outside of here. I’m sure if I travelled outside of the US I’d have new ones, but I loved it there so much. Yeah, people in Lima, generally, are friendly. We have our assholes, the ones who don’t approve of the loud queer folks in town, but there aren’t many, just a few loud haters. Ha. The small town vibe, the welcoming feeling… it’s starting to get to you. One of us, one of us.

i don’t blame you. hollywood just doesn’t seem like the place people go to live unless you’re an eighteen year old with a dream, or you’re desperate. i feel like most tourists would know if they saw thor just walking around hollywood, it’s probably not going to really be chris hemsworth. so, what’s the point in the phases? is it just another way to section off the storyline? and, also noted. those are the tv spinoffs though right? so they’re in the universe but not in the movie portion of it? that should be easy enough to remember.

when i first moved there i felt like i had allergies or some kind of bug for a good couple of weeks, but i really think that was just my body taking time to adjust to the change in natural setting. that’s one thing i always said i’d like to do more of, traveling out of the country. there’s just so much to see and not enough free time to do it. right, the slushee-throwing, joy haters. glad to know there’s still a handful of those to rain on everyone’s parade. but other than that, and i hate to say it, i don’t hate being back. oh no, maybe i am becoming one of you.

Hattie couldn’t help but continue to sip away at her wine, it seemed to be the only thing stopping her from getting up and going home. She was definitely a girl who enjoyed her drinks, not that she drank often but when she did, Hattie knew how to pack it away. She watched him intently as he tried to joke with her, a small smile leaving her lips before she bit down on her bottom lip, trying her hardest not to make a snide remark at his snobby comment. “As high class as Lima will ever get.” She smirked, taking the last sip of her wine before ordering another from the waiter. Hattie looked away, hoping he wouldn’t see the rolling of her eyes as she caught his comment, it was getting harder to bite her tongue but Hattie wanted to enjoy herself and arguing with Theo wasn’t going to help that so she decided to just brush the comment off. “We’ll see, I’ll have to decide whether day old chicken salad would’ve been the better choice or not.” She smiled, staring straight into his eyes as she got her own bit of teasing in. Smiling as the waiter took their orders, Hattie fiddled around with her hair, thinking of some sort of civil conversation she could have with him. “So, what made you leave New York for lil ol’ Lima again?” She asked, her fingers tapping softly on the table as she waited for his answer. “Oh, and no bullshitting, you can tell me the truth.”

it wasn’t long after theo’s own glass of wine had arrived that he knew he was going to be needing something stronger, and in turn asking for a whiskey neat instead. maybe with a few glasses of the dark liquor in his system, he’d be able to loosen up, finish this dinner, and go home and pretend it never happened. “right, because the plastic grapes thrown around the place and called decor just screams high class. maybe i should get some for my apartment. y’know, spruce up the place, let people know this is a high class living space,” he laughed, already downing the last of his own glass and following in suit and ordering another. “you’ll thank me when you don’t end up with food poisoning. well, you still might with this place, but less of a chance,” he easily quipped back, unsure of what now to do that the waiter was gone and he knowing with as busy as this night was, no thanks to the event, they’d be waiting a while. “i wasn’t planning on it, i’m not in the habit of bullshitting. if i don’t want to tell someone, i just don’t. but the simple truth is, i can’t get favor from my parents to take on mcintosh farms if i’m in new york. they have this weird thing about being hands on and involved with the whole thing, so here i am,” he made his explanation seem simple but the thing he left out was that if he didn’t inherit the business over his brother, he would feel like everything he’s done, all the dreams he had put aside, since college had been for nothing. “what about you? los angeles wasn’t your style?”

There’s something satisfying about using a smoker… It takes all day, but damn, once you take that meat off of the smoker and you take a bite, it’s just so tender and juicy that it makes it all worth it.

That said, if any of my more carnivorous friends would like to try some home-smoked pork butt, I’ve definitely got a couple of pounds to give away. And then I have some smoked cheeses and smoked vegetables that I experimented with, too, that’s deliciousness can almost rival the pork butt I smoked.

There seemed to be a million and one thoughts going through Hattie’s mind at the moment, she was replaying conversations and arguments that herself and Theo had often had and it just didn’t make sense to her that they were now sitting together on a blind date. Hattie often wondered how the world worked and the whole, what’s meant to be will be jazz, and she very much believed that she was never given anything she couldn’t handle, although recently she was starting to think that was all a load of bull. The mood felt very awkward between them, yes they were able to get along sometimes, but majority of the time the two just couldn’t see eye to eye and were unable to speak to each other without throwing shade or insults. “Isn’t this nice?” She smirked, trying to somehow lighten the mood without letting down too much of her guard. “Are you trying to say you didn’t strike gold with me? Pfft, Theodore, how you wound me.” She spoke gently, a bold smirk still written all over her lips. She was attempting to be civil with him and if joking around helped, Hattie wasn’t going to pass that up. Taking a sip of her wine before picking up the menu, Hattie flipped slowly through the pages, her eyes scanning each item before looking back up to Theo. “I suppose this beats the leftover chicken salad I was going to have for dinner.” She let out a soft laugh, her eyes moving back to the menu as she decided what to have. “I think I’ll play it safe and have Chicken Alfredo.” Closing the menu and placing it back down, Hattie raised her wine glass to her lips, her eyes making contact with Theo once again as she sipped her wine. Of course she hoped the evening would go well, who wants to have a failed date? It was just whether or not the two could open themselves up to each other and try to have an actual, decent conversation. 

it took all theo had not to scan the room for the nearest exit and bolt. despite his confident attitude and the cool facade he always had on display, he didn’t do well with awkward situations to this degree. he was at a loss for what the right thing to say here would be, if there even was one. and as most people would tell you, he usually always had something to say. “oh yeah, this place just screams high class, don’t you think?” he had meant it as a joke, but the moment he said it, theo knew it just sounded snobby but he was too prideful to apologize so he just cleared his throat and continued on. “at this moment i feel like i’ve struck pyrite more than gold, dear hattie,” he was supposed to be on his best behavior, but what’s a little teasing gonna hurt? “chicken salad alone is something i don’t trust with any part of my being, but day old chicken salad? i think this date might have just been your saving grace tonight,” he laughed, pulling the menu up a bit as he scanned it, but also to hide the small smile that had finally appeared. hearing her order, he glanced up, considering. “that probably would be the thing they’re least likely to fuck up, huh? i guess i’ll have that too,” he finished up, conveniently as a waiter returned and took their orders. “thanks,” he spoke as they were once again left alone. “so...”

if i had to pick just one, other than my mother of course, i guess the medal of honor goes to my dear friend lily-jane. a pain in my ass, but i guess i'm lucky to have her around. and if you don't know what she's like by now... you're one of the lucky ones.

i'm the kind of guy that sets goals for myself that i work towards reaching, so the idea of being able to have that proud moment and say i did that and check it off honestly gives me a renewed sense of motivation a lot of the days when i'm lacking.
