Beneath the sheets of paper lies my truth I have to go, I have to go
samson, regina spektor
big cheeks are IN. soft, round, squishy, angel-kissed, full of love cheeks
musketeers families : the royal family

writing is weird because sometimes I’ll have no ideas and everything in my head is kind of quiet but then something will happen and it’s like there’s these goblins living in my brain that just start shouting little phrases at me until I sit down and finally write the poem or story or whatever
ancient greek and roman poets: sing in me, Muse, and through me tell the story
me, banging pots and pans together: wake the fuck up goblins!! what the fuck is up!!
I am a tragic girl with a too hard heart, a soft soul, and I feel terribly.
it’s a dangerous way to live, so full and so empty // L.H.Z (via lhzthepoet)

“We’re gonna help a friend get laid.”
“Okay… Good luck with that.”
“Thanks!”
stuff you need to know about your main character
susanmichelewrites :
What’s their deal? How’d they get to where they are when the story starts?
What’s their gender? Age? Race, ethnicity? Sexual orientation?
What are their political opinions?
How did their upbringing effect them?
What do they want? What goal are they trying to achieve?
Why are they involved in the main plot at all? Why do they care?
Are they meant to be a good person?
How do they change over the course of the story?
What makes them happy?
Who are the people that are important to them?
What are their principles?
How far are they willing to go to uphold those principles?
What would they do for their own selfish gain? How far would they go to benefit themselves?
What kind of world do they live in? Do they like it there? Why or why not?
What was their economic background growing up? What is it now? How does it effect them?
What are their greatest strengths? Their weaknesses?
How do they view themselves? How do others view them?
How do they treat others?
Why should the reader care about them?
namesonboats :
“WRITE IT BADLY. Write it badly, write it badly, write it badly, write it badly. Stop what you’re doing, open a Word document, put a pencil on some paper, just get the idea out of your head. Let it be good later. Write it down now. Otherwise it will die in there.”
— Brandon Sanderson on overcoming writer’s block to create a first draft as a professional author (via almost-always-eventually-right)
“Now and again her eyes dimmed with tears, but she did not let them escape down her cheeks. She pressed her lips fiercely together and the tears seemed to retreat back inside her, as if drawn by an inner fire.”
— Irène Némirovsky, tr. by Linda Coverdale, from “Les Vierges,” (via violentwavesofemotion)
