one of my favorite parts about going back and rewatching the webseries is how easy it is to pinpoint all of the ways constant exposure to bizarro matt logic like this has totally eroded jay's ability for higher reasoning by the later seasons and the film lol. jay is so nervous here about getting caught, about getting into any kind of trouble. but it's like over time matt continuously putting jay in these dangerous, illegal situations and then always managing to get both of them out relatively unscathed has warped jay's perception of reality - it's literally what happens when he shoots the guy through the head in the movie because he thinks he's playing with a toy! I guess that's what happens when you spend all your time with a manic pixie nightmare boy for decades though, jay is just acting accordingly

that one interview where Matt and Jay are asked what they think annoys the other about them the most and Matt's like "I think Jay is most annoyed by me manipulating him into doing what I want and then guilting him about how he didn't want to do it at first" and Jay is like "yeah I think Matt is most annoyed by me not immediately doing what he wants" is fucking crazy. like full stop "what are you to each other" isn't even a valid question anymore, they're something to each other that doesn't exist anywhere else besides like, idk. gothic literature and weird alt books about abuse and dissolution of boundaries or something
