I am shocked, stunned and words can not express my sympathies for Dave Mirra’s family. Dave we will miss you, your 40 Watt smile, the joy you brought to those around you, the positive Dad Vibe and you amazing talent on two wheels. TL;DR I wouldn’t call Mr. Mirra a friend but in my time of action sports coverage I got to know him and we exchanged stories about growing up in Central New York. I saw him again this past fall. We were both en route to Interbike. We talked about Triathlon, road cycling and cross national coming to North Carolina. We talked for about 30 minutes, exchanged e-mails and then went on our way. He had it dialed, he was unique.

For those of you that don’t know I had a friend, neighbor, cycling and concert buddy take his life 1 year ago. I wake up ever day and see his house. I see his family. I feel for him, I feel for his family. Dave’s passing has stirs similar emotions. I don’t know what Dave Mirra’s circumstances were but he will be missed. Such a loss, so sad.

Pencil train

Nebraska-based artist Cindy Chinn turned an entire carpenter’s pencil into a tiny train and bridge crossing. The train engine is only 3/16″ of an inch tall. The pencil is 5-5/8″ long and mounted in a wood shadowbox frame.
