My name is Rachel. I'm a 26 year old living in New York City and entering my last year of law school. I am an activist in New York with the New York Animal Rights Alliance and a volunteer with the Shelter Reform Action Committee. This Tumblr was created so that I could share information regarding kill shelters and animal cruelty. My emphasis will be on the NYC Animal Care & Control and New York legislation. I encourage anyone to follow me, but please be aware that this Tumblr will feature articles, pictures, websites, and writings that are sad, tragic, horrifying, and upsetting. We will be presenting the reasons why Davidson County must end their useage of the gas chambers, and with the public's (shown) support, this CAN become a reality! Look at this sad little girl. This is the result of seven years of bearing puppies every six months. She is skin and bones with rotten teeth and a skin condition that will take time and effort to clean up. She can barely walk because her back legs are so weak.

"I hate being told to GET OVER IT, as if some magical button can be pressed and I will suddenly be like, "oh okay, things are good now." NO, pit bulls are vilified, misunderstood, and victims of not only cruelty but mass hysteria. I protest Vick not only because of the RAPE STAND and the murders, but because in my opinion, the deals, the endorsements, all that bullshit does nothing but enable that culture of fear and hatred to continue. I will NEVER support an enabler and I don't give a fuck if it's a giant corporation or a single scum bag. I SHARED this on my Twitter and my Tumblr and I am enjoying watching the "like" count go up, person by person!!!"

The news aired a euthanasia and many people are upset by it.

I understand that it is an awful thing to put on TV, and many people are offended at the way the shelter seems to pass the buck to the public.

It's both the shelter and the public. We need awareness and we need reform.

attention all miami animal rights activists!

it would be awesome if there could also be an organized protest at Miami-Dade shelter on  July 23rd.
