I’m really starting to get sick of myself (to quote the great Matthew Sweet) and since there is a limited supply of band photos, we have made some changes. I have asked The Be to shoot or video some new content before I really do hate myself from having to look at me too much. So along with some Fleetwood Mac related content, you will see some new photos that in this instance were taken by Stacy in my front yard. It’s spring in the desert and the cacti are really giving up the flowers this year after a good shimmering spring rain. The natural beauty of the desert this time of the season always has me “Mystified” and I am honored to share some with you. The version of “Mystified” you are hearing is another early mixing board rough captured on cassette for home listening reference. A magical song to be sure and Christine at her finest in any version. A big thank you to Stacy Be for taking the pictures and putting together this piece for all of us to enjoy. Your spirit touches my heart...r

Some 40 plus years ago, Stevie, Lindsey, and myself would quite often get together with the Curtis Bros., either their house or ours, to play and write music. Most of the time as we would sit around, I would watch Lindsey, Rick and Michael Curtis, (Rick & Michael wrote “Blue Letter” on the first Mac album that included Stevie and Lindsey.) Stevie, and other various friends, play & jam together. Quite often, I would record those smoke filled jam sessions with a cassette player, and apparently, one or two of the cassettes have survived. I believe this to be Lindsey and Rick Curtis playing guitar together, working on a song idea, that we found on one of the cassettes. Never before heard by anyone but us for over forty years, we can now present this for your ears, a real treat and a melodic time machine...r

Happy 29 years of “Tango In The Night”

One of the gems that we uncovered in the many cassettes left in storage over the years is this early, unfinished rendition of “Tango In The Night”. I really like the raw nature of this version, the overly limited/compressed sound of the cassette tape, and in your face. We also thought to add some of our favorite pictures to go along with it. Most you have already seen, and perhaps a couple you haven't. Make sure to stick your head in the middle of the speakers or head phones and crank it up! Enjoy.

A big thank you once again to Kevin Moran, who’s love of music and great patience has allowed for this to even happen. Your reshearch and time are greatly valued. If it was left up to me, I would have surely lost or discarded these old cassettes long ago. Also, I would like to thank Stacy B, for her hard work and dedication to Fleetwood Mac music. Without her, none of this happens, just that simple.......r

Actually this looks like a moment from the Putney house when we were living together in West Los Angeles. He has the “on the phone with the manager” look on his face judging by the psychical nature of his expression. If I had to guess what he was saying, “Oh no, not another interview. I need time to write the darn songs first.” Lol

Another little slice of Fleetwood Mac life headed for the archives of “The Penguin’s Tale” website. Most of the video quality is shit, but we put it up anyway after digitizing it, before it had completely deteriorated. The visuals are from the recording of “Tusk” and the sound is from a rehearsal April 9, 1978, apparently an early version of “Storms”....Enjoy....r

A serious moment in the studio as Lindsey and Stevie discuss a part in one of her songs on “Tango In The Night”. I’m guessing the cigarette was a Kool. She liked her Kools every now and again, and cool she was. But not always when it came to working on her songs, if they turned out below her expectations. This appears to be one such moment before it was finally worked out...r

To our friends in Australia, great memories, great country, great beer. The promoter, “Paul Dainty”, gave us these Aussie style hats and yes we did wear them for a moment. Here is a rare shot of Lindsey in a hat, off stage...r

“Hello Richard. Please can you tell me why Crystal was rerecorded for the white Fleetwood Mac album when it had recently been recorded for the Buckingham Nicks album. Stevie is such a prolific song writer that I am sure she would have had other songs that would have been well worthy of putting on the album. I love both versions by the way and it is one of my favourite songs of hers. I really like in the BN and early FM years, Lindsey and Stevie sharing the lead singing on certain songs. I guess you hear a bit of the softer side of Lindsey through Stevie’s beautiful lyrics and have a bit of an insight into their relationship before it all fell apart. Thank you :-)”

I really wish I could answer that for you, but I can’t. I have often asked myself the same question after failing to ask them personally in the years I spent with them. I can only surmise that the band loved the song and thought that their own version would be stronger with the new lineup. I love your question and appreciate the perspective you bring. I very much agree with your thoughts on Stevie and Lindsey’s relationship before and after. The Buckingham Nicks album was a standout work on it’s own and a window into what was to come for many years after. But you’re right, a softer side of Lindsey never returned in quite the same way after that record. First love can be so innocent, for all of us..r
