"I am not going to let you die.â
"You're adorable; but, you know I'm not gonna give up that easily. As if I'm gonna die and let Bonnie and Elena go through all my stuff. The thought in itself, is almost giving me another heart attack."
"Sometimes I think Iâm better than everyone else,      but then I remember I am."
Her frustration is somewhat satisfying. After all, itâs not the first time she lashes out at him with no obvious reason at all. Yet slowly he closes a book and puts it on the bed before sitting up, yet refusing to follow her orders. Almost theatrically he looks around the empty room, before his piercing gaze returns to her.
âMight I say, that thereâs no audience           for you to impress with your scene,           goldilocks. Though by all means, I           will not stop you.â
"You're making fun of me..."
Her blue hues lingered darkly ove his face, before narrowing again. She knew the situation was on the verge of turning into a lost cause, and it frankly made her more snappy. Not prolonging the moment longer, blondie wooshed to his side, grabbed the book he had placed on her bed and hit his shoulder with it, hard enough to make her point clear.
"Don't make fun of me.                  What are you doing here, anyway?"
Stefan listened to her speak, but all he could think of, was how could he go out and party when he didnât even feel alive? Sure, he felt better being with her, but if he had to go out on his own and try and be social and happy, it would fail inevitably. He knew it. He was  b r o k e n and partying just didnât sound appealing to him. But Caroline was there and she was trying her best to help him, she was being an absolutely amazing friend so he decided to take it into consideration. But he refrained from speaking. He just kept his face against her body and pulled her closer, his arms keeping a tight hold of her. It was like a little boy who was clinging to his mother, because he was terrified of what would happen if he let go. He felt like if he let her go all the pain would come rushing back, and he was scared. Because this was the worst pain heâd ever experienced. It amazed him how safe he felt with her there. It was like the pain was still there, but it was muffled for now. Because she was there, she was helping him. Caroline Forbes was like a female knight and shining armor to him, as silly as it sounded thatâs how he saw it. She was saving him from himself, and anyone powerful enough and important enough to be able to do that, was a hero. Thatâs how he saw her, she was a hero. "Are there even parties out yet, Care? I mean   Yeah itâs October, but itâs mid-October, weâre not at Halloween yet.â He re-positioned himself, so that he was looking at her but his arms stayed wrapped around her body. He was still scared to let her go, because he was scared that as soon as he did he could feel that pain all over again. Caroline was his distraction, but she wasnât only a distraction. She was his salvation. In distracting him, she was saving him, helping him get better and just being there with him which is what she needed. And for that, he would be forever grateful. "You really are my best friend, you know that right?" His eyes locked with hers, trying once more to convey everything he felt into one look. And just like before, this connection was different. He couldnât point out how, but it just was. And part of him wanted to explore it, to find out why it was so different, and to find out why he was so okay with it being that way. It was like there was a new feeling inside of him towards her, but he couldnât put a finger on what exactly it was. He was determined to find out.Â
A gentle hand went up to curl around Stefan's neck as her fingers embedded themselves in his soft brown hair. The gesture, to which she forced herself to think as a normal one, was done to further soothe his pain. It was indeed like a mother cradling her child; and like a mother, the blonde only wished to have been able to spare him from this pain. But the deed had already been done, and as much as it pained her to see him like this, she knew she couldn't have prevented it. She never thought their relationship would end in the first place.
Yet, as much as she tried to calm him and even aid him, the innocent gesture didn't stop from making her heart rate increase. It was silly really, but she just couldn't help it. The foreign feeling startled her, and her muscles tensed for a moment as the thought faltered in her brain. With a soft shake of her curls, Caroline pushed the nonesense to the back of her head. There would come a time when she did think of it, when she analaysed every blinking moment of her time with Stefan, but it was clear that now simply wasn't the time. 1) Stefan would sense the change in her attitude, 2) it would embarrass her completely, and 3) she just couldn't, for this one time, think about herself. She knew her support was meaning a great deal to her best friend, and to have her dampen that, would certainly come out of the blue and raise some questions.
So, with a soft exhale of breath slipping from her cherry-glossed lips, she let her typical smile to appear on them as Stefan's eyes locked with hers. "Don't be silly; of course there's parties. You're talking to me, hello? I know every single party that goes on around here." A small childish giggle emitted from her mouth, before her hands so naturally came down from his neck and settled on the muscular arms that were wrapped around her. "Besides, it's a pre-Halloween party, so there's obviously bound to be one of those." She didn't realise it, but her fingers were gently stroking his arms. And as her blue hues suddenly picked up on the action; her body immidiately froze. What am I doing?
However, before she could think about that again, Stefan had spoken. His words sent an involuntary crimson blush to creep onto her cheeks, as a small smile tugged on her lips. "I know," she murmed, picking up on the feelings conveyed in his eyes. The feelings that were making a knot to form in her stomach as well as small butterflies to flutter in there too. She couldn't quite pinpoint the reason for the change, but she found herself saying: "You're mine too, Stefan. You're the best."
He lifts his head up just slightly so to look at her in her annoyed glory. An eyebrow rises just slightly in an attempt to tease her reaction to the max. Yet he does nothing to satisfy her wish so clearly channeled as he drops back to the bed and gets himself occupied with the book rather than her.
âââNo need for a scene, love. After all,           itâs just a social visit; donât tell me you           didnât miss me at all.â
Caroline's lips pursed into a thin line as her rage began boiling up inside her. She couldn't stand not getting her way, and as she so furiously watched Enzo mock her distress, there was no doubt that the blonde was on the brink of a tantrum. Her eyelashes fluttered rapidly, as a scoff escaped her glossed lips upon hearing his words.
"Pigs will fly even before the thought of                                  missing you pops into my head."
Her feet took a step closer, as her eyes narrowed down at him. "ââNow get off my bed, or I will cause a scene."

He has to admit that her dorm room is quite cozy. The fact that heâs splayed across her bed with a book in his hands doesnât quite scream 'manners'.
Blondie had just come back from getting a Starbucks and as she walked into her dorm, she absentmindedly roamed around her room almost missing the horror that was splayed across her bed. Upon recognising him, her beryl orbs darted back at him and her pretty face contorted in utmost disgust. The little drama queen could have easily fainted from the shock.
"What the hell are you doing?!           --Get your germs off my bed, you little skeeze."
Don't even get her started on the book. Ugh, she thought.
âFetch?â Bonnie repeated, her brow scrunching up before she cut her eyes back in Carolineâs direction and still keeping a firm grip on the curtain that was partially hiding her from view. âThatâs not even a word. You justâŠyou just made up a word to try to make this dress sound good when itâs nothing but a disaster.â Her agitation was evident in her voice but it was gone almost a second later when Caroline had pulled the curtain away and Bonnie found herself stumbling back from the shock. That wasnât something sheâd been expecting and yet she probably should have since it was Caroline she was shopping with, she needed her input to be put on everything and this was her brilliant idea after all.
As if the blonde couldnât offend her anymore, she managed to do it once again when she brought up gaining weight and Bonnieâs mouth fell open from the shock as she glanced down. âNO!â She practically shouted, grabbing the curtain back from her friend and pulling it sharply back into place so that she could be hidden. âIâll have you know that Iâm the same weight that Iâve always been and Iâm about this close to coming out of this dressing room and strangling you â with this dress!â Bonnie added as she struggled to reach for the zipper on the dress so that she could get out of it. She was over and done with this shopping trip now more than ever.Â
Vampire Barbie's face became that of utmost horror as she heard Bonnie's mock of the word. She drew in an exaggerated gasp as her hand instantly flew to her mouth, fully emphasising her shock. "It's like slang, from... England." She muttered quickly still trying to stand her ground. Of course, Caroline had no clue what the word meant or if it indeed came from England, but she just wasn't going to let her friend get away with it. Avoiding eye contact, Caroline pursed her lips into a thin line and stared at the dress instead. With a swift roll of her eyes, Blondie ignored the brunette's reaction to her pulling of the curtain and tried hard not to make a face at the sight of the dress.
"Well it was supposed to be your size!" Her words fired back in response to Bonnie's rashed outburst of reaction. Her hands went up in the air as a long sigh was left from her lips as she saw no other choice, but to surrender. "Did you seriously consider strangling me with that dress? Are you mad?! How many times am I gonna have to tell you? --That's an Alaia." Her blue eyes widened as they so appallingly stared at her best friend. "Ugh." She shook her head, having to let the moment slide as all her hope was already lost in the situation. "What are we supposed to do now? Exactly what are you going to wear, hmm? The party is next week!"

[text; bonnie] what else was I supposed to do? No one else was touching it, and it was right there![text; bonnie] I swear, it was winking at me.
"Who am I to ignore a royal request?" He swept an overly dramatic bow and stood quickly, smirking as he took her hand and kneeled in front of her, pressing a kiss to it. "It would be an absolute honor to procure for Your Highness whatever you may require." Inwardly, he rolled his eyes. It was ridiculous, and overdone, but teenagers fell for the âfun boyfriendâ act every time. If there was one thing he knew how to do in this world, it was make women like him. And he really needed Caroline to like him; she was a fairly important figure in this podunk town, and he was new. So he sucked it up and flashed her a lightning grin. âAnything in particular?â
Damon's sudden gesture startled the cheerleader slightly, as she hadn't been expecting him to plant a kiss on her hand. However, the shock soon vanished as a complacent look was swiftly radiating from her features. The blonde, loved being flattered and being the centre of attention, and since the quite handsome man in front of her was so willingly complying to offering her those, she saw nothing wrong with going along with it and enjoying the moment. Her naiveté was subtly making her oblivious to the Salvatore's true intentions. "Then grab a notepad, 'cause it's gonna be a long list!" A playful giggle slipped from her lips as she was so innocently falling for his act.
Caroline's bitter resentment against Elena stealing Stefan away from her, quickly became non-existent as she saw a better chance in the eldest Salvatore, who was just as handsome, if not even slightly more. What is it with these Salvatore brothers? She thought to herself, as she found a crimson blush rushing to her cheeks. "Well, vodka, of course! And Tequila, and some beers for the boys, and vodka. Did I already say that? I mean, you can never have too much vodka. And, um, any other drink that you think Halloween-ish!" She began rambling as she always did when she got excited about something, "--You know what? Why don't you just surprise me with the rest!"

Stefan wanted it all to go away. All of the pain and all of the guilt. He felt like heâd done something, he had to have done something wrong, because he couldnât believe that sheâd just hurt him like this for no reason. He pushed all the thoughts away as best as he could and buried his face deeper into her shoulder. All of the thoughts running through his mind were just becoming too much to handle. Her words once again brought a calming sensation to the brunette. His pain didnât go away, but it was easier to breathe. Their eyes locked together, neither one of them daring to look away even for a fraction of a second. They were having a moment, which was nothing new for the two of them, yet this one was different. Unlike any of their other moments shared, this one stood out from all the others. He felt like an anvil had just been lifted off of his chest. It seemed as if they took turns consoling each other, and that sentence almost always made itâs way into the conversation. It amazed him how much they cared about each other, and they always pulled through. It wasnât like relationships, because in relationships forever meant a few years, it almost always ended. But not with Stefan and Caroline. This was a true friendship, and Stefan felt extreme comfort knowing that he could always count on her. "I donât   I donât know how to handle this, Care I   The pain isnât going away. I just want it to go away.â His body collided with hers again, hiding his face against her body and letting out a few sobs. "Thank you    " His words were muffled because his face was still hiding against her. Stefan wrapped his arms tightly around her, moving himself closer. He couldnât even explain the gratitude he had towards her, because no one else was here. His heart had been severely injured and everyone they knew was out living their lives, not caring. But she was her. She cared. So he was going to do his best to focus on her company, and ignore his shattered heart.Â
It was like dawn and dusk. Stefan, in this case, was dusk; darkness was pulling him in, surrounding and gloaming his life. The light which he had experienced, had now set and had left him roaming by himself amidst the obscurity, blinding him from any speck of brightness anywhere and restriciting him from an escape. The gloom almost seemed as eternal as his life. However, Caroline was beginning to play the part of break of day. She, in this case, was dawn. Despite the darkness confronting her, she managed to shed light on the situation. She was the speck of hope in Stefan's recovery. Her joyful aura managed to break through the dense wall of blackness eclipsing over her best friend's life, and offered a light at the end of the tunnel. She just wanted him to be happy again. Even in the midst of all the crazy unhappy bits.
Her eyes tried to offer the hope which her mind was so firmly set upon giving. As she held his gaze, she saw just how desperate he was for a release. Even through the hope and the smile playing upon her glossed lips, she noticed something different in the way she was perceiving his presence near her. The blonde didn't quite understand it; and as she began to overthink the moment, she noticed that Stefan had realised the difference in this particular moment as well. The way his eyes held on hers, was different to any other time they had both looked at each other. It was like witnessing a sunrise itself; a small skip of heartbeat drummed on Caroline's chest as she saw the widening of his orbs on her. The situation suddenly reached foreign ground, and Caroline, though at first determinded and composed, now became uncertain and thoughtful. Her eyes quickly looked away, breaking the trance as her head exploded with thoughts.
Before she could even try to come up with a reason for the change, Stefan had collided his body with hers again and was burying his head on her shoulder. Shaking her head, she pushed back the absurd thoughts that were beginning to enter her head about the way he had looked at her, and instead focused on getting him through this. As she wrapped her arms around his back, she knew the moment couldn't have been any different. Stefan was her friend; the only thing different about the moment was her mistaking it for something else.
"You know what you need? To find a distraction. You need to go out... and the pre-Halloween party seems the perfect remedy!" She mumbled with enthusiasm, as she forced herself to ignore her dwelling thoughts. She also tried ignoring the electric shock which had travelled down her spine as she felt the breath of his words against her neck. He's just my friend, she said to herself as she overlooked the sensation. "And no need to thank me, Stefan. That's what best friends do." And that's all I will ever be.
