My favourite line from the analysis: Heterosexuals enjoy their OTPs, while bisexuals believe in free love. It just really made me laugh!

I'm insane so I'd love to talk about basically all of it, but one thing I found super interesting was the response to the general fandom-related questions. Rambling below the cut.
Not only does this chart look ridiculous, it's just a fascinating, unexpected result. The way people talk, you'd think 75% of the Pitt fandom is dumb kids who have no understanding of fandom etiquette (which one can still lack after many years in fandom, clearly!). And sure, maybe everyone is lying, or the reach of this survey was so poor that only fandom veterans saw it.
Or maybe... this just isn't most people's first fandom. To be honest, if you're on tumblr taking fan surveys and you're over, like, 16, the chances of this being your first fandom are pretty slim. So maybe this result isn't entirely unexpected.
There's also the question of how to define "being" in a fandom. In the survey, I tried to be clear by providing the Fanlore wiki page definition: "A fandom is a group of fans, participating in fan activities and interacting in some way, whether through discussions or creative works."
Even so, that definition is up for interpretation. Are you in a fandom if you just upvote posts on reddit or like things on tumblr? What if you just chat with your friends about it? If you're a super fan - have all the merch, have read/watched all the source material, know all there is to know about the lore and production and so on - but don't interact with other fans, are you in the fandom? If you only read fics and never leave kudos, are you in the fandom?
And as I mentioned in the report, "fandom" can extend to sports, video games, music. If I've been going to sportsball games since I was a kid, bam, I've been in fandom for 20+ years.
I answered "yes" to this question because I've always been a lurker. Maybe I could argue that my band obsessions in middle school counted as fandom, or that trading items with other Animal Crossing players via forums counted as fandom. Personally, I don't think they did - for me. But it's a question everyone answers for themselves.
Here's an extra chart showing general fandom age vs. whether this is their first fandom. 79 people have been in fandom for less than 2 years, but this isn't their first fandom? Hmmm. And then one person has been in fandom 20+ years but this is their first fandom??
For the most part, I took responses in good faith, and didn't adjust them if I thought someone was answering "incorrectly." But this is obviously an example of someone who is either trolling, answering randomly, or misunderstanding... And just another reminder to take all these results with a giant grain of salt.
Anyway, if you ever see anyone make the "baby's first fandom" comment ever again, feel free to dunk on them with this 100% accurate and indisputable data!
Laughing at the “my wife” response to why people watch the show because I’m like 99.9% sure that write in was from my husband who I made take the quiz as well. (He also said he doesn’t engage in fan work but considering he’s read all my fics, that was false lol)
LOL I could have rolled that into the "friends and family" option but I felt it important to display on its own.... iirc the exact phrasing was "my wife is obsessed." I, too, shoved the phone in front of my partner and told him to fill out a survey for a show he only cares about a normal amount

Update on survey results - the report is nearly complete (it's a lot!!). I'm out of town for the next few weeks, and then I'm planning on getting it reviewed, so realistically... end of the month maybe. Numbers at the end of each column represent sample size. Samples are low because this only includes respondents who 1) selected one of the top 10 favorites AND 2) selected one of the top 10 least favorites. So, for example, it excludes everyone (432 people) who said they don't have a least favorite. Rows with lower sample size (<50) should be taken with a grain of salt. Send me questions+feedback!
