Just got tipped off to this charming series of music reviews. They captured my fancy with their take on a song from this year's The Cave Singers album, No Witch.
Who wore it better?
Laura Veirs must have a baby
...Indeed she does. So of course here is her first album for kiddles, streaming until it's released at NPR.

Featuring Jack Black and Gary Cole. This is relevant because politics! (I just saw the Ides of March.) It's a bit crude though - WATCH OUT, FAMILIES!
First Listen: Tom Waits' Bad as Me
Yaaay!
I don't know you guys. I am concerned that a She and Him Christmas album may be way, way too cutsie. I loved Zooey Deschanel crooning in the Elf shower scene as much as the next lady. I mean, she can sing, and she can hold her own when it matters most. But didn't you think She & Him Vol 2 was on the cutsie side? And now this show New Girl, where they've fluffed and curled her hair to an insane degree, probably so her eyes don't look so freakishly large? I guess, huh. Maybe I have a problem with cutsie. Come to think of it, cutsie groups are a Christmas album natural choice. I take it back. Carry on, A Very She & Him Christmas!
I see what they did there.

Christmast is Coming!
This is all I've been listening to the past couple days. With instrumentation by the alt-classical yMusic Ensemble, which I am also going to have to check out now. NPR Music introduced me to Shara Worden of My Brightest Diamond in the first place, when she performed in the Dark Was the Night Concert and promptly gave me the tinglies. She also was the vocal highlight of the Decemberists' rock opera album, The Hazards of Love. The album you can hear from the link above, All Things Will Unwind, will be released October 18th. Until then, you can listen away to the whole thing, preview-style, at NPRMusic.
I caught wind of this on Videogum, where I learned some of the lyrics to this song. I had been humming along without paying much attention to what it means, but yep, it *does* appear to be about a school shooting over coveted shoes.
