Happy Birdy Release Day Australia!

The follow up to Birdy's self-titled debut album is here! Unlike her 2011 release which mainly featured beautiful cover versions of indie hits, Fire Within presents Birdy as a talented songwriter in her own right. Not only is the album made up of 11 tracks either written or co-written by Birdy, but it also sees her expanding on her already brilliant musical abilities by taking the role of guitarist in both the recording studio and in live shows. The album is a complete mix of upbeat tracks and more chilled ones which are similar to her old album. 

Earlier this month we caught up with the lovely lady and she told us that Fire Within was mainly inspired by different places she visited on tour, people she's met and relationships that she's had. Similarly to her debut, the album explores themes of love and passion.

LITTLE MIX FANS....New song alert! 

Little Mix have released a new song called Move, and we can't get enough of it. Revealed on British radio this week, and we think this may be the song that wins them their big break in the US. 

Move is bursting with energy and addictive beats, taken the girl group to a higher level in sound and maturity. Have a listen and let us know if you like it :)

Ariana Grande and Nathan Sykes have confirmed on Twitter that they are an item. Since Ariana's song Almost Is Never Enough featuring The Wanted star Nathan Sykes, the idea that there a couple has been rumoured around. And now it has been confirmed to be true! Yay, we are super happy for them :)

The official video for Jason Derulo's latest track Marry Me, from new album Tattoos, is out now! The video shows Derulo proposing to real life girlfriend Jordin Sparks. The passion & the love is all there, but what we're missing is that huge rock we want to see on her wedding ring finger!

Nevertheless it's a lovely video which shows a real loved up couple appreciating one another. Aawwwww!!

The MTV EMA Nominations Are In!

Not too long ago Miley Cyrus made headlines with her twerking performance at the MTV VMA's, and all too soon it's time for another MTV Awards - The Europe Music Awards. The nominees for the 2013 MTV EMA's were announced earlier this week, and WOW it's a killer line up! Justin Timberlake, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga lead the way with the highest number of categories they're up for, with Timberlake up for 5 awards!

Exclusive Birdy Q&A and Playlist

British singer-songwriter Birdy is back with brand new album Fire Within, the follow-up to her debut album which captivated a global audience. Fire Within showcases Birdy's songwriting capabilities, with the 11 track album having been written or co-written by the seventeen year old songstress. Pop Mob recently caught up with Birdy, discovering her favourite live performance and the singers that she'd like to collaborate with. She also curated a Spotify playlist of tracks that she's currently loving, and some of her all time favourites.

What have been the main inspirations behind Fire Within?

Lots of different things,  I wrote a lot of the songs when I was on tour so some songs are inspired by different places. Some are stories inspired by people and relationships.  

We absolutely love your song Wings. Can we expect more songs like this?

Thank you! The new album is a mix, some songs are more stripped back like the first album but there are definitely some more upbeat ones that show a new side of me. 

What’s been your favourite of your live performances? Was it the venue/ crowd/ country that made it so special?

I had the chance to play three nights at the Sydney Opera House, it was definitely one of my favourite shows it is such a beautiful venue I felt so lucky to be there and the crowd were so wonderful each night. 

How about the best concert or festival performance that you’ve been to?

I was in France and got to go and see Muse play Bercy which was such an incredible show!

Who would you love to collaborate with in the future and why?

I've always been a fan of Lykke Li  and also love Emiliana Torrini. 

Which other British artists would you recommend for fans of yours?

At the moment I've been listening to Jake Bugg and London Grammar.

What advice would you give to teenagers hoping to become a successful musician?

It's really important to stay close to people you love and stay grounded, you should always be yourself because that's what's unique.

Jason Derulo in Australia this October!!!

Sixteen singles, fifteen music videos, two albums with a third out in Australia on Friday, two Teen Choice Awards and two BMI Awards....Yes we're talking about the fantastic RnB superstar Jason Derulo who will grace our shores early October.

To give you a taster of Derulo's latest work, the legend himself will be in Sydney in October playing songs from new album Tattoos at Westfield Parramatta on Thursday 3rd Oct and at Marquee Nightclub Sydney on Friday 4th Oct. 

Tattoos is released here on Friday, and what an album it is! Full of perfect pop songs like first single The Other Side, to funkier tune Talk Dirty,  this album is bound to be a hit! Talk Dirty has already topped the charts this side of the world, and we're sure that the rest of his record will continue to do just that.

2013 Fave Girls

The next month sees three brand new albums from some of our female favourites; Birdy, Eliza Doolittle and Janelle Monae (and we're just a lil bit obsessed with Gabrielle Aplin!) Here's a lil about the artists and new albums, with our fave latest video of theirs. Enjoy! 

Birdy – 17 year old Birdy won our hearts with her debut self-titled album which was full of beautiful covers including a delicate version of Bon Iver’s Skinny Love. This year Birdy is back with new album Fire Within (out 27th Sept) which features 11 original tracks, inspired by the places she’s been to in the past year and the people she’s met. Wings, the first single of the album, is a soaring mid-tempo ballad a great preview of the upcoming album.

Eliza Doolittle – British singer-songwriter is back this year with brand new album In Your Hands (out 11th Oct) which includes summery single Big When I Was Little. Eliza’s style seems to be heavily influenced by a mix of soul, pop and reggae, mixed together to create a beautifully upbeat summery sounding record. Earlier this year Eliza  showcased musical adaptability when she featured on Disclosure’s British summer anthem You & Me. Check out BWIWL, the best song to welcome the Aussie summer in.

Janelle Monae - Inimitable singer/ songwriter/ producer/ performer/ CoverGirl…is there anything this lady can’t impress us with? Latest album from eccentric R&B star, Electric Lady, is out in Australia on Friday and is tipped to be BIG! The new album encompasses soul ballads, emotive lyrics and powerful moments, making it one of our favourite releases of 2013. 

Gabrielle Aplin – Pop Mob favourite 20 year old singer-songwriter Gabrielle Aplin caught our attention with her charming, sweet voice and easy to relate to lyrics which are beautifully showcased on her debut album English Rain. Aplin has been writing and recording songs since she was 15, and has since toured Australia with global star Ed Sheeran. Her gorgeous videos have got us wishing we could jump into the screen and join her!

Was Miley Cyrus' explicit VMA performance of We Can't Stop and Blurred Lines with Robin Thicke one of the best publicity stunts we've seen recently?

A couple of weeks ago Miley Cyrus made global headlines (and is continuing to do so) after her live performance at the MTV VMA's which witnessed her infamously twerking in nude underwear and getting a bit too close to Robin Thicke (which went on for what seemed like an hour). Since the award ceremony, her performance has been both criticised and praised, creating a media frenzy. But even if people are going to criticise, it still means that they're talking about her and spreading the word. 

Yesterday, Miley released the official video for single Wrecking Ball. Before I'd had time to view it, reviews were already featured in heaps of news and music publications. Press who normally wouldn't have featured a pop star like Miley Cyrus were suddenly wanting to have the first review - it seems everyone wants a piece of the hot goss! And yes the videos purposefully seductive and Miley is naked for a proportion of it, but do you think it would have so easily racked up over 10 million views in 13 hours without the VMA performance scandal?

Hats off to you this time Miley.

It's been called the next viral video of the internet, a song with the potential to be a bigger summer hit than Daft Punk's 'Get Lucky' or Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines', and has been praised by Buzzfeed as the best video on the internet... we present to you Ylvis, The Fox - A YouTube sensation already, accumulating over 10 million views in under a week! 

Brothers Bård and Vegard are the Norwegian variety show group behind Ylvis, a talk show which premiers in Norway on September 10th. The Fox was written for the show, and produced by the same team that has worked on content for worldwide pop stars including Rihanna and Katy Perry. The addictive viral video and catchy song features Ylvis exploring the sounds of various animals.
